Fab India Vitamin E De Pigmentation Cream Review

PS: Please read this post carefully and thoroughly.

What is Fab India Vitamin E De pigmentation Cream?

An intensive skin lightener and and natural de pigmentation treatment that evens out the skin tone. It hinders melanin production to prevent skin from darkening, removes age spots, blemishes and freckles.

Contains no harmful chemicals and is hydroquinone free.

Fab India De pigmentation Cream

Hydroquinone has been used for many years to reduce pigmentation by acting on melanin producing cells. This action can destroy the pigment making cells (melanocytes) and alter the structure of melanosomes (packets of pigment which are made by the melanocytes and passed to new skin cells as they are formed).

Hydroquinone was banned in January 2001 in cosmetics because of the potential damage it can do to the skin in terms of irritating the skin and creating white areas where no pigment can be made or in some cases turning the skin black. It is still prescribed by dermatologists in hospital but they are gradually switching to alternatives as new safety data comes to light. Recent studies have shown the potential of hydroquinone to cause cancer.

Price : Rs 225 (Indian Rupees)  for 100 ml jar

Directions for use: Wash and Cleanse face thoroughly . Gently smoothen on the face or affected area . For best results follow up with the sunscreen lotion.

Ingredients in Fab India Vitamin E De Pigmentation Cream: Water, Kojic Acid Dipalmitate, Arbutin, Ascorbic Acid, Veegum, Vitamin E Acetate, Allantoin.

For me the ingredient list was pretty scary for me. I was aware that kojic acid and hydroquinone are banned in many countries . So even before using this, I did my full research on the ingredients. Let’ see:

Kojic Acid Dipalmitate has an excellent property of inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase present in the human skin so as to inhibit the melanin formation. It is more efficacious than straight kojic acid. Kojic Acid Dipalmitate can produce excellent effects in even toning the skin, fighting age spots, pregnancy marks, freckles as well as general skin pigmentation disorders of the face and body. Unlike kojic acid, which often causes product stability problems such as color changes, Kojic Acid Dipalmitate offers excellent product stability without any color instability problems.

Arbutin: Arbutin is a natural double action whitening agent. It’s new type of skin de-pigmentation and whitening agents, an extract of Bearberry plant which produced by a solid /liquid extraction, an environmentally friendly process.

Ascorbic Acid: vitamin C; used as an antioxidant in its L-ascorbic acid form, can have skin lightening effect in certain preparations, is important to keeping as well as rebuilding healthy collagen fibers.

Veegum : Thickening agent

Tocopheryl acetate, also known as vitamin E acetate, is a common vitamin supplement with the molecular formula C31H52O3 (for ‘α’ form). It is the ester of acetic acid and tocopherol (vitamin E). It is often used in dermatological products such as skin creams. Some studies have linked tocopheryl acetate to cancer.

Tocopheryl acetate is used as an alternative to tocopherol itself because the phenolic hydroxyl group is blocked, providing a less acidic product. It is believed that the acetate is slowly hydrolyzed once it is absorbed into the skin, regenerating tocopherol and providing protection against the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Allantoin relieves the skin irritation caused by soaps and detergents, acids, and alkalies in oral and skin care products. It is said to promote wound healing and tissue formation, but is not recognized for that by regulatory agencies.

Fab India De pigmentation Cream

Why did I purchase Fab India Vitamin E  De pigmentation cream?

I had got some dark spots on my cheeks, near my mouth and chin area. I had no clue why and how I had got these spots. I have a clear skin *touchwood* and these spots were screaming out loud on my face. I tried using face packs, home made stuff etc. but those ugly things just stayed on my face.

On a trip to Fab India store, Vitamin E  De pigmentation cream caught my attention and I thought I’d give it a try.  While purchasing I had a rough idea about Kojic acid Dipalmitate, Vitamin E acetate and hydroquinone. I came back home and did a research on every single ingredient listed. I would be lying if I’d say that I found this cream completely safe to use. I was not even sure whether the full list of the ingredients was mentioned on the jar. Nevertheless I decided to give it a try.

It is a thick white cream. The texture is heavy but it get absorbed in the skin easily without leaving any greasiness behind. The fragrance is on the stronger side.

It cream  mentions that it is best if followed up by a sunscreen lotion.  I decided to apply it only at night and only on my affected areas. I used to wash my face, and apply only this cream on the affected areas. Other than that I just used to apply my eye cream but was always careful that my two creams don’t get in contact with each other. That was the routine I followed for 3-4 nights.

The cream worked and it worked wonders!

My dark spots completely disappeared within 4 days of application. My skin was clear as ever. In fact those ugly spots never came back again. 🙂

I stopped using this cream from the 5th day itself. It is just lying with me since then.  The expiry date of this cream is almost one and a half years from its date of manufacture. Mine expires in Jan 2011. So I would keeping this cream with me until then, just in case.

For the first time I would not be recommending or NOT recommending this cream. It has worked great for me but I cannot oversee the harmful chemicals present in Fab India Vitamin E De pigmentation Cream. I am not even sure if this cream would work on you or not because the reasons behind the skin problems could be different for each one of us. All I would say is that please buy this cream at your own discretion. 🙂

Hope this was helpful and I request all of you to do a good research on chemicals before using any fairness cream. If you use fairness creams, use them at night. Avoid using them during the day.

And btw btw, I lost some weight. Can’t tell you how happy I am today. 🙂 Read it HERE

i was in fact abt to write a comment before reading the post completely 🙂 wat was i saying? i normally try such creams night times coz tat wud be the safest….200 % agreed

yaar…so many creams in the market…brainly beauties around…many recos…wat do u think u ppl r doing to me? do u girls have any idea how shallow my pocket has become?

    1. Divija,

I am not a beauty chemist. 😛 I just like to do my reserch. Although I am lazy at reading the ingredient lists but I do read a lot of about chemicals present in the products I use. Yes I did mention about this cream in the interview you took. 😛 I did not ignore it just that it cured my problem way too early so did not use it enough.

And yay! group hugs and we can surely have a salad party. 😛

      Thank You

      1. I want this cream now.. will be sending my mom today to get me some nail paints and this cream..

And I Love you my thin beauty chemist.. hehe.. 😉

  2. did i just say “Brainly beauties”….ignore the typos…read it as “Brainy”….

god, somebody teach me ENGLISH 🙁 who dares to be my tutor? 🙂

  3. The info is very useful Rati. I am so impressed that you chose everything with utmost care. Kojic acid and hydroquinone are still being prescribed by doctors for acne and blemish prone skin……Rati, can it be used for age spots and sunburnt pigmentation??

    1. Doctors might be prescribing KA and Hydqroquinone in certain concentartion or may be in a particular way. So it is best if we use such things under proper supervision.

The creams says that it removes age spots. I think it shoudl work for sunburnt pigmentation as well. 🙂

  4. I might ask ma to try it for a bit. She has a lot of dark patches that make her bit conscious. Just a small trial. 🙂 Thanks for the detailed review. We’ll know to discontinue if it doesn’t suit!

  5. Thanks for that tit bit on the ingredients Rati! .During winter my skin had become really dry, so I tried this out. Unfortunately it made my face oily :(.. so i ended up using it for my body!

    1. For me it is a medictaed cream that shuld be used only on the affcted areas. It is a super heavy cream but it gets absorbed in my skin pretty quickly.

he he when I have to finish some of my *not so fav* creams, I use them on my body. 😀

  6. I was half asleep yesterday when you posted this. But still managed to read..Did not have the energy to comment though.

Thanks for the excellent and detailed review Rati. I badly want a de pigmentation cream. Let me give a thought to this product before I jump to a decision and buy it. Nowadays, the cryptic content names have begun to mean a lot of knowledge to me. Like you said, the reason for pigmentation/spots on each person would be different.

Btw, congrats on the weight loss and yes..we will have a salad treat 🙂

    1. he he I was dead tired myself when I wrote this post and went off to sleep as soon as I published it. 😛

I took a big chance with this cream and I really cannot advice others on doing the same. Give it a thought and best is consult a derma. 🙂

Thank yoou. Hubby repeated the complimnet today as well geeeeee..

  7. Ratu, mind the boggling review…
I’m going to buy this cream asap. You know that I’m in dire need of a cream that removes my blemishes and little patchiness above my cheek area which I think are little sunburns. Now, I can go to fabindia and buy this cream and the lavender cleansing milk. Finally, I can use something that can remove my blemishes in 4 days. Wuhooooo……….

    1. The reason i ddin’t recomment this cream to you because of the funny skin you have lol!! You would have killed me had it reacted on your skin.

I theerby declare that if Abha uses this cream and her funny skin reacts even more funnily, I am not to be held responsible. 😀 😀

Buy that lavander cleansing milk. I think Deepu would also buy it. She said that it was the best cleanser she has ever used . Yay! 🙂

      1. Ok, I agree that I’ve a very sensitive skin. I would kill you anyways if it reacted. I was the first one to say that it’s the best cleansing milk I had ever used. Stop giving credit to her. huh!

  8. Congrats on your weight loss !!

  20. After reading this review I’ve given it a thought and decided to give it a try… I have few freckles on my cheekbone area and nose.. after applying this cream for a month(4-5 days a week) i noticed that my marks are lightened to a large extent… thank you so much for reviewing it. *puchhi* ..
I like it for one more reason that it doesn’t have any bleaching agents.. My skin rects very badly to bleaches 🙁

  21. After reading your review here I have given it a lot of thought then finally decided to buy it on my own descretion 😛 *haan ji* I have few freckles on my cheekbone and nose and after using it 4-5 times a week for 1 month, I have noticed noticable change in my spots.. freckles have been lightened to a great extent..
Thank u so much for reviewing it *puchhi*
One more thing i Like about it that it doesn’t have any bleaching agent 🙂 because my skin reacts very badly to bleanches.. So it’s been a good purchase for me. *haan ji*

  22. It now contains Isopropyl Palmitate which is a highly comedogenic ingredient. So acne prone and sensitive skin should stay away.
