How to Remove Dark Spots from Body

Hi IMBBians,

We all crave for flawless skin, be it on our face or body. Dark spots are discoloured patches of skin that can appear anywhere on our body, because of over-secretion of melanin (a pigment responsible for the color of our skin). In today’s post, I will tell you some easy ways by which you can effectively lighten them over time with regular usage. So, let’s get started.

dark spots on body

1. Lemon

Lemon juice is a bleaching agent which is used to lighten dark spots on the skin and whiten dark skin effectively. It has natural acidity to it and lots of vitamin C content which makes it a good remedy to lighten dark spots. It is also a natural exfoliating agent. When lemon is combined with yogurt, its advantages double up. So, squeeze juice from one lemon and add 1 tablespoon of fresh yogurt to it and mix well. Apply the paste all over your spots and leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash off with water.

2. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is safe and very effective in treatment of dark spots. It moisturizes and treats dry skin conditions to improve overall skin complexion. It’s gel has polysaccharides which encourage the growth of new skin cells to lower dark spots as well as to heal scars. You can directly use fresh aloe vera juice on dark spots. Let it dry on for 30 minutes. Then, rinse off with cool water.

3. Turmeric

It is an another popular skin lightening agent which is used to eliminate black spots from face as well as body as it fixes the free radical damages. It also reduces discoloration from the skin. It is also effective for removing sun spots as well as age spots. To make a paste, mix ½ teaspoon of turmeric, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and 2 tablespoon of milk in a bowl and mix well. Apply this paste on the spots and gently rub. Wash off after 15-20 minutes.

4. Papaya

This fruit has papain enzyme that serves as an antidote for dark spots. It exfoliates and scratches away the dead skin cells, and evens out the skin tone. It also encourages the production of newer and fairer skin. Use green papaya for best results. Papaya can be used individually and it will work really well. Just crush papaya to make a pulp. Apply it on the spots and leave it for 20 minutes. Then, wash off with cool water.

5. Yogurt

Yogurt has several amazing skin care benefits, skin lightening and bleaching properties. It also has lactic acid which is good for exfoliation and skin whitening. You can easily use yogurt to make a mask to use on the spots. To make mask, blend two tablespoon of yogurt, 1 tablespoon of mint, along with 1 tablespoon of rose water. Apply the paste on black spots on your face and body and then leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water.

6. Oatmeal

This is great for skin exfoliation as it helps to scrub away dead skin cells effectively. It also has saponins that work as an organic cleanser for your dark spots. You can make an oatmeal mask by taking ½ cup of smashed rolled oats and adding 3 to 4 tablespoon of lemon juice to it. Scrub it on the spots and wash.

7. Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a common ingredient in many skin bleaching creams. You can buy this from a local pharmacy which is suitable for skin. Just use 3% hydrogen peroxide directly on dark spots to fade and reduce their appearance overtime.

Note:

1. Above mentioned are home remedies which are safe to use, but might take some time to show results. They are all harmless to use, safe on the skin, but you need to be patient with them.
2. If you are in a hurry and if nothing seems to work, then you can go in the medical way. Go to a certified doctor and choose a course of treatment that will suit your skin well. Laser treatment and chemical peel method are just examples that I am mentioning below.

8. Laser Treatment

Laser treatment is a non-invasive procedure that is quite painless and gives quick results. This treatment depends on the color and size of your dark spots and how deep they are, and then the best method for your treatment will be picked out. There might be few sessions of it depending on the spots. A sunscreen is must after using this treatment as skin becomes really sensitive after this treatment.

9. Chemical Peels

Depending on the darkness and depth of your dark spot, the chemical peel method can be used. Different chemical peels like glycolic acid or lactic acid, trichloroacetic acid or phenol may be used in this method. Basically a chemical is applied, regenerative cells are activated and a new layer of skin forms in this method.
