MAC Lip Erase Lip Balm Review

MAC Lip Erase Lip Balm Review

By Ritu R.

Hi IMBB Girls!!!!

I am writing for IMBB after a long time, but I am back with a bang! I am reviewing the much sought-after, much-needed and much-awaited product, the MAC Lip Erase. The shade I am reviewing is “Dim.” Read on to know more!

MAC Lip Erase Lip Balm Review

Product Description:

A flesh-toned balm that visually neutralizes and erases natural colour from the lip. Shine- and texture-free.

Price:

Rs. 1400 for 15 ml.

Packaging:

The MAC Lip Erase comes in the standard MAC packaging. The outer box is a black cardboard box with white print. The product is housed in a transparent, round, plastic pot, with a black lid. It is very easy to carry in the bag.

Pigmented Lips

My Experience with MAC Lip Erase Lip Balm:

I do not have much to say here because this product screams for itself! Its a saviour for a girl with pigmented lips. Yes, totally! I remember not being able to wear pinks and nudes on the lips because of the naturally dark, pigmented lips that I have. There are times when you just want to throw some gloss on your lips and go out, but sigh, pigmented lips! The pigmentation would show up, no matter what. But with MAC Lip Erase, there’s no looking back. I wear it under lipsticks, which are sheer or when I just want to wear a coat of lip gloss, and ta-da!!

Lip Erase

On first look, the shade “Dim” looked too light to me, but on the lips, its just perfect. Blends easily.

The lip balm itself is very creamy to touch, but it settles to a matte finish on the lips. Just a very small amount is required, so I think this one pot will last me 2 years easily. It perfectly masks lip pigmentation, and the sheer lipsticks show up much better with it. Also, the staying power of my regular lipsticks increase a tad bit with it.  A lipstick which would stay for 3 hours would stay for 4-5 hours with this, so it acts as a lip primer too. I have worn it for 8 hours, and it didn’t budge! All in all, a multi-purpose product!

Lip Balm for pigmented lips

To use, I first scrub my lips with my toothbrush. Then I apply a coat of lip balm. After a minute, I apply MAC Lip Erase. After another 1-2 minutes, I apply my lip colour.

MAC Lip Erase on my lips.

Now, for a small demonstration, using the Maybelline Colorsensational lip gloss – Wine All Mine (a very sheer wine-pink lip gloss).

This is how my lips look with MAC Lip Erase and lip gloss:

See, the difference is remarkable, isn’t it?

Pros of MAC Lip Erase Lip Balm:

  • Covers lip pigmentation perfectly!
  • True color of lipsticks show up with MAC Lip Erase (for pigmented lips).
  • Increases the staying power of lipsticks.
  • Huge quantity, one tub will last for almost 1.5 – 2 years.
  • Travel-friendly pack.

Cons of MAC Lip Erase Lip Balm:

  • Can be a bit drying for the lips, but a coat of lip balm can easily take care of the lips.’
  • Potted packaging, so you need to use your fingers to apply.
  • Price, the price can be a huge deterrent for many.
  • Availability can be an issue, since MAC is not available everywhere in India.

Do I Recommend MAC Lip Erase?

I would strongly recommend MAC Lip Erase to everyone who has pigmented lips. It is expensive, but worth it!

Will I Buy MAC Lip Erase Again?

Ummm, yes, if I finish this up, definitely!

  1. Lovely! MAC definitely delivers what it promises but with a price tag! Too expensive for a lip balm, i feel. Is there no other cheaper alternative??

    1. Kashti, you can use a bit of concealer or lip pencils before applying lipsticks or glosses. That would help. Concealer sometimes feel a bit drying and heavy on lips so use it sparingly. 🙂

  2. ritu, i think it is an excellent product. I dont have very pigmented lips but sometimes when i have to neutralize my lips I use a tad bit concealer. Honestly, Not the best thing to do. i would any day prefer something that is a bit comforting on lips and this looks like an excellent answer. 🙂 Thanks for sharing. 🙂

      1. thank you so much Rati…. I am in love with this balm…. and trust me, the pics are not doing justice to the before and after effects…. the camera just didnt behave…. the lips look much better in real with the lip erase:)

  3. hello guest post,i have pigmented lips and am actually proud of my brown lips.it is their natural colour and how i love the fact that different glosses turn differently on my lips.you just need to scrub and moisturize your lips regualrly and be comfortable in your lip and skin colour.but for the ladies who have a problem this definitely is a good thing 🙂

    1. thanks flygirl! I was happy with my pigmented lips, till I found this! I still don;t use it daily, and prefer opaque lippies to this…but under glosses, this is a must now:)
