MAC Smolder Eye Kohl Review
Everyone has been talking about MAC Smolder, the good the bad and the Ugly but no review :O
So I decided to put all the rumours, whispers, discussions to rest once and for all – So ladies and gentlemen – I hereby present The Good, the Bad and Ugly of Smolder !!!
The curtain opens on our protagonist.
MAC Smolder is normally a long pencil – I’ve been using mine for an year now, so it is on its last legs. The size is definitely a good as its 1.45g.
Smolder is BLACK and I mean BLACK – it’s the black of pure dark kajal. Neither my Lakme Perfect Definition, nor the Chambor Black can compare to the Blackness of this black. It looks a bit lighter in this pic, because of the lighting . 🙁 It is also very creamy, glides on beautifully. Its perfect for your water line.
This is my eye with just one swipe of MAC Smolder on the water line.
This is the same eye about five hours after, The color has faded a bit but its not smudged a lot.
That being said, Ive noticed that the amount of smudging on the waterline is directly proportionate to the amount of product on your waterline. That is, one swipe of color will smudge less than if I swipe the pencil 3-4 times on my waterline in which case the thing bleeds a fair bit after a few hours. To wear MAC Smolder on the lash line one needs to apply it, blend it gently and then set it with black eye shadow. I am too lazy so I keep another Black eye pencil for my lash lines. Keeping two eye pencils is a bit extreme but because I wear lenses I prefer to use smolder on waterline as opposed to any other eye pencil as it is ophthalmologist tested and safe for contact lenses.
Why not use Kajal then ?
Because MAC Smolder is just as Black, just as waterline safe but it doesn’t smudge nearly as much as regular Kajal (and its safe for use with contact lenses). So it is like a super-pimped firangi kajal, which totally works for people wearing lenses.
MAC Smolder is water resistant, so it wont go away if you wash your face or get caught in the rain. In the pic I am holding an already smudged line under water, so it’s the not the water that did that. But unfortunately …..
The BAD and UGLY of MAC Smolder ….
Its not smudge proof !!!!
It is smudgey, if you rub your eyes, SMUDGE !!!! it wont smudge much on its own but as you can see in the pic, one rub and its smudged away. You can actually use a tissue and rub this right off your hand. However it rubs off way more easily off my hand then my water line, where I have to coconut oil to wipe it off … but on the lash line, unless set with black e/s it might just give you panda eyes 😮 Also on the website, no where does MAC say that its eye kohls are meant to be either waterproof or smudge proof, so I can’t really hold it against them as the product does exactly what its supposed to do which is …
“A soft-on pencil liner that lines, defines and shades the eyes with rich colour and a silky-smooth, matte/pearl finish. Ophthalmologist tested.”
That being said because of the texture this is a great substitute for black eye shadow, and great for doing smokey looks, but this is more like me making lemonade out of life’s lemons 😛
So what is the verdict for MAC Smolder?
+1 for being an awesome color
+1 for being opthamologist tested
+1 for being water resistant and water proof from what I can tell
-1 for being smudgey
+1 for being waterline safe
MAC Smolder seems to me like a cross breed between an eye pencil and a kajal. It looks and behaves like kajal but its better in some aspects although most people might not find it worth it due to the price – Rs 790 for a pimped out kajal is a bit much.
But I will recommend this to all wearers of contact lenses and people with sensitive eyes or allergies won’t sting or irritate your eyes and it won’t transfer on to your lenses 😀 This is the perfect thing to put on your waterline ……
To all the people who don’t fit into the above categories, you might find something better for cheaper 😀
