This past weekend, I went to Sephora to pick up a new primer. I decided to go with Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer in #6 Yellow. I love the HD foundation from this makeup line and figured this primer would also do wonders for me too. I have heard great things about the original primer which is clear, but the yellow shade is supposed to lighten dark skin.
My skin tone on my face is actually darker than the rest of my body (weird I know). I use to have teenage acne and with all the medicated topical creams, my facial complexion is always a tad reddish/pinkish, making it look like it is darker than my neck. Whenever I apply makeup, it always looks darker on my face and my neck looks super light. With this primer, I was really looking forward to see it lighten my face complexion, so it would match my neck. To see what I thought of this primer, keep reading!
A lightweight, oil-free complexion corrector that enhances the skin’s texture and primes the skin for makeup application. HD Microperfecting Primer deeply nourishes, moisturizes, and softens the skin, creating a glowing effect. Creates a protective layer on the skin allowing foundation to glide on easily and last longer.
- Argatensyl: Immediately smooths and enhances the skin’s surface.
- Silica micro balls and Elastomer silicone: Give a soft finish to the skin.
- D-Panthenol and Glycerin: Provide optimal skin hydration. (+60%)
- Phycosaccharide: Creates a shield that protects from external aggressions and brings stability to the makeup.
I really liked how the company provided a description of what the main ingredients did. It is nice and informing to know about the ingredients going on to your skin and the effect they have.

My Take on Make Up For Ever High Definition Microperfecting Primer #6:
The first thing I loved about this product was the packaging. There is a nice pump which allows you to control how much product you need. It definitely had a luxurious feel with the glass bottle. When you pump the primer, it comes out as a pale yellow. The texture itself was very light, and serum like. Most primers have a thick, silicone feeling which this did not have. As I applied it to my face, I noticed that the primer easily blended out and it didn’t have a tacky feeling afterwards.
I was surprised to say that this primer did give me the lighter complexion I needed to match my neck. Don’t expect this to lighten you 2-3 shades! The pale yellow color gave my skin a bit of lightness and glow. The primer itself gave my skin a nice smooth base to work on. My foundation glided on wonderfully and it lasted for a good 7 hours. I personally would use this just as a tinted moisturizer. It blurs my pores, giving it a nice smooth look and the pale yellow color just brightens my skin to the point where I can really go without a foundation on days when I am running errands!
Overall, I was quite impressed with this primer and would definitely repurchase. The pale yellow did lighten/brighten my complexion like it said would do and gave me an HD ready base for my foundation. I would recommend anyone looking for a new market to try it out including the other color ranges they have in this primer.
