My Experience with NYX Super Cliquey Matte Lipstick Chain Reaction:
Packaging:
NYX Professional Makeup Super Cliquey Matte Lipstick has a unique and innovative packaging compared to the conventional bullet cased lipsticks. The lipstick tube has a colour-coded packaging that corresponds to the lipstick shade and helps to identify the shade easily. These lipsticks have a button at the bottom that has to be clicked to get the lipstick up.
The length of the lip color coming out depends on the number of the times you click the button at the bottom. It is basically similar to swivelling a normal lipstick bullet up and down. Just that in this case, the unique click mechanism keeps the whole thing neat and tidy by dispensing the desired amount of product for the perfect application.
The shape of the lipstick is of a tear-drop which helps to line and fill your lips in the perfect way during the very first application. However, with repeated use, the shape does get crumbled and you will face difficulty in colouring your lips perfectly. Moreover, once you click to get some product out, you can’t push it back in the tube. This could be a possible con for the buyers.
Another thing which I feel is the little quantity provided at this price tag. Other normal lipsticks from NYX have more quantity and come at a much lower price. Overall, the gimmick of a click mechanism was cool and interesting but I don’t think it adds any special value to the packaging whatsoever. I adore this type of sturdy and travel-friendly packaging.
Shade:
The shade ‘Chain Reaction’ is another beautiful shade in this range. It is a bright purplish berry shade that has pink undertones to it. It is a subtle mix of purple and fuchsia colour, which looks so vibrant when you wear it. The shade is really pretty and will complement fair to medium skin tones perfectly. Since the colour is quite bright and poppy, it is definitely not wearable for office and formal parties. You can wear this shade to a brunch outing or an evening outing with friends. If you are looking for mauve and pink lipsticks, you can definitely try this out.
Pigmentation:
I love lipsticks that have a matte finish and this range of lipsticks was so easy to work with. The colour pigments in the lipstick are wonderful and you get a good colour payoff at a single. If you want to hide lip pigmentation, you will have to apply multiple swipes in order to get fuller coverage.
For my lips, I had to apply two coats of it for obtaining the best colour pay off. I use a blotting paper on my lips between two successive coats. The pigmentation is intense and the formula is nice, just like other matte lipsticks from NYX. On the positive side, this lipstick is odour-free. Hence, it is definitely good for people with sensitive noses.
Texture and Finish:
The lipstick has a soft and creamy texture that glides on the lips effortlessly without any pulling or tugging. It does not have any sort of shimmer or gloss in it. The consistency of this lip colour is powdery matte but it feels quite comfortable on the lips. It gives no waxy or sticky feel post application.
It has a feather-light formula and does not feel like I’m wearing something on my lips. Even though the finish of this lipstick is powder matte, it does not initially dry out my lips. The formula of the shade ‘Chain Reaction’ is buildable and adjusts well to layering. Once it sets to a powder matte finish, it stays in place and does not transfer much. I don’t know about the performance of the other shades because I have not tested them yet.
As the shape of the teardrop gets distorted with every use, you might notice uneven application and coverage. In that case, it is advisable to use a lip brush and fix the flaws caused by the uneven application. This lipstick is not transfer proof. It has a tendency to get transferred on coming in contact with objects.
To test how effectively it performs when your lips are not primed and moisturised, I simply applied it without any lip primer. However, after wearing this lipstick for a few hours, I noticed my already dry lips felt drier. It clings to the dry lines of the lips and makes my lips patchy. If you have dry lips, this could trouble you since it has a tendency to dry out your lips on long-wearing hours.
To avoid highlighting any sort of patchiness or settling into fine lines, exfoliation is necessary. I usually prefer scrubbing and prepping my lips and then moisturizing it with a lip balm to avoid any sort of dryness. I really loved the colour but I just wish it wasn’t so patchy. Overall, I liked the formulation with the only exception that it makes my lips dry if not moisturised well.
Staying Power:
This lipstick stays for about 5-6 hours on my prepped lips after which it slowly starts fading. It can survive normal meals. However, the staying power is likely to reduce if you consume oily food or drinks. On my lips, after consuming oily food the formula breaks from the centre of the lips. However, the colour intensity does not vanish completely; rather it leaves a beautiful stain on the lips. If you want opaque coverage again, you would have to reapply it. Removal of this lipstick is quite easy. Use any oil based or water based makeup remover and it gets wiped off without any trouble.
Overall:
This type of clique mechanism is really cool to take a break from the conventional ways of lining your lips. ‘Chain Reaction’ is a gorgeous colour and I’m impressed with the quality of the product. The NYX Professional Makeup Super Cliquey Matte Lipstick is awesome too and if you do not have really dry lips, you would face any significant issues with the texture. If you are on the lookout for a shade that has a hint of fuchsia in it, you can grab this lip colour.
