Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Chocolicious Review, Swatch

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Frost – Chocolicious

A long time ago in college, we were a gang of girls with different skin tones – dark, wheatish and fair. Elle 18 had just launched and it was the decade of dark shades and mattes. Elle 18’s dark brown with high frost, called Kiss of Caramel, was a shade all of us had, and all of us looked decent in.

When I saw Chocolicious at the Revlon counter at the airport’s Shopper’s Stop in Bangalore, I was instantly reminded of that shade. But Chocolicious is its classier sister. I no longer gravitate towards dark shades much, but I picked it up in part nostalgia and part assurance that it would work for me.

What Revlon says: Infused with mega-moisturizers to seal in color and softness. Find your lip color amongst a dazzling array of 72 fabulous, fashionable shades!

Price: Rs.515/-

My take: A cool chocolatey brown, Chocolicious is frosted, but low on shine so that it feels more like a creamy shade. It has the merest hints of golden glitter in it, which I only realized when I swatched it for the blog. I like my dark browns to be more toasted, and warmer or else it gets too gothic. This is an in-your-face shade with slightly cool overtones and I compensate for that by matching it with very plain ensembles, with neutrals like black or white predominating. I leave my eyes and the rest of my face bare, with perhaps just compact on to even out my skin tone. I also minimalise the accessories.. and then the whole effect is quite stunning, as all attention is drawn to my mouth. I also take care not to apply it too thickly or it would be overwhelming.

The shade with flash

Without flash. The true colour is somewhere between the two.

Although the lipstick doesn’t promise long stay, it does linger quite long, fading to a pretty stain by afternoon. Definitely lasts way longer than Lakme’s enrich lippies, which disappear in half an hour or so! The one thing I utterly dislike is the smell – I can’t remember if it was that way when I bought it, or if something happened to it, but right now, it has an oily, almost Ayurvedic formulation smell. Anyone else had that happen?

Pros of Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Frost – Chocolicious

• Lovely creamy texture
• Very pigmented
• Doesn’t dry out lips
• Lasts long enough
• Decent price
• Not aging at all in spite of the dark colour
• A good shade for medium skinned girls, IMO

Cons of Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Frost – Chocolicious

• I prefer warmer browns
• The smell is just horrid
• Can be an overwhelming shade if not used rightly

Would I repurchase it: Yes, since I like to have one lipstick in a darker brown, for when I feel like doing a dramatic mouth. For me the pros outweigh the cons, although I will be interested in picking up a warmer version too.

  2. Shai I am not too much of a brown lipstick person but I definitely want to try this range. And as your mentioned I’ll smell the lipstick before purchasing.

    1. Thanks for putting up the review Rati… this is a better shade for medium – dark tone girls… what I like is that its not harsh or gothic.

  3. I dont want to use them on lips,I love pink ones, these if I get, I will eat up the whole in one go 😀 I am soo choco maniac

    1. He he… I’m yet to find a pink that really works with my skin tone… still looking. warm browns seem to suit my skin tone best – lakme’s 9 to 5 ‘brick’ is pretty good for me.

  4. I like the name 😀 You should try Chambor truly lasting ‘Terracotta’ and ‘Brownsugar’. Terracotta has a maroonish undertone while Brownsugar is a true brown. I use Brownsugar to tone down brighter lipsticks 😛

    1. I love chambor shades – I had a warm maroony brown ‘chocolat songe’ ages back with I wore for my wedding. Will check out your recommendations… gosh, this wishlist is now really long!

  5. ohh lovely shade!! these revlon ones are pretty good na…like they are not drying at all which is the best part…but somehow lipsticks just don’t seem to stay on my lips.. and i don’t even lick them at alll 🙁
my mum had a similar shade from neutrogena and by the time i discovered it was finished 😥

    1. He he… did use a lot of shades like this back in college, now I like nudes and warmer browns better.. did try a pink recenlty which looked decent swatched on the hand, but terrible on my lips!

  6. :chewnails :chewnails ((Lipshades for my mum..)) :announce: she wil love it if i gift this one to her.. :shying:

    1. Yep… it can be rather overwhelming, that is why I never put it on full strength. My husband seems to like these dark shades however.

  7. I agree on the weird smell chocolicious has. I literally think it smells of faint baby poop, which makes me think that the formula is comprised of baby poop. It’s a gorgeous color though. Haha. I might still buy it even if I found out there was poop in it.
