Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Smoky Storm Review

Hello Lovely Ladies,

I’m back after a short break. If you follow me on Insta, you would have seen that I had a short family staycathon over the extended weekend. I was supposed to be back to work yesterday, but ended up with the most blinding migraine. I’m sick of general practitioners and neurologists telling me that one day these migraine episode will go away – as suddenly as they started, but its been over a decade and I’m still waiting! Anyway. Enough of depressing conversation from my end! Let’s jump headlong into some glitter!! I hope you checked out my review of Stila’s Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Rose Gold Retro. Today’s review is on the shade “Smoky Storm”.

Price:
$24.00

Packaging:
The liquid eyeshadow comes packaged in a lip gloss type of packaging – except for the fact that the tube is cuboid instead of cylindrical. It looks quite like the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick packaging. It has a doe-foot type of applicator which allows easy dispensing and application of the product. The good thing is that the tube has a silicon stopper at its neck, which ensures that too much product does not get dispensed out at one go, which really helps. Also, it would prevent the product coming in contact with air too much. The applicator works well for applying the eyeshadow on the lid. However, if you need to use the eyeshadow as a liquid liner, you will need to use a fine tip brush from your collection. The product comes packed in a golden cardboard box. Overall, the packaging is functional and aesthetically appealing.

My Experience with Stila Glitter an Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Smoky Storm:

Shade: The shade is described by the Company as “Light pewter and silver.” I think the description is quite apt. The base is light, metallic, pewter with silver and gold micro-glitter particles suspended in it. The base shade is fairly light, but still clearly visible when the product is used heavily. However, if it is sheered out, the base becomes more indistinct leaving only the silver and gold micro-glitter particles visible.

Texture: The product is a thin liquid without seeming watery. The eyeshadow applies evenly – the base shade applies smoothly when there is a concentrated application. It’s quite a good texture. It takes less than a minute to dry down. This gives you ample play time to blend the edges softly with your fingers or with a synthetic brush. Despite the high shine, it did not seem to accentuate texture on my lid. I found it fairly easy to work with. The best part is that since the glitter is suspended in a homogenous creamy base, it did not seem to have much fall out during the course of wear, which is excellent for a glitter product. I did not seem to have any issue with applying it as an all over shadow or as a top coat. However, while applying it as an eyeliner, I felt that the formula does not go on as smooth as I would have liked it to go.

Pigmentation: Pigmentation is semi-opaque. The base is not as distinct as that of Rose Gold Retro. You can see the swatch –the base colour is visible but does not go on as smoothly when there is a wider area to cover. If you are using it on the center of your lid – where you are applying it on a smaller concentrated section, there isn’t much of an issue (does not look patchy). It isn’t a scenario where glitter is suspended in a transparent/uneven base. The shadow can be used in its full glory or sheered out – as one desires.

Staying Power: Disclaimer – I apply eyeshadows with a primer because my lids are way too oily. I get about 9-10 hours of wear with barely any fall out. This is phenomenal for a glitter product.

  • Stunningly bright light pewter silver shade with silver and gold micro-glitters.
  • Extremely bright and eye catching.
  • Once dry, it does not budge at all.
  • Effective and efficient packaging.
  • Did not sting my eyes or cause irritation.
  • Hardly has any fall out.
  • Does not need a glitter glue as a base.
  • Travel-friendly.
  • Can be used as a liner (with difficulty), eyeshadow or topper.
  • Ease of application.

Cons of Stila Glitter and Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Smoky Storm:

  • The base shade does not apply as evenly as in the case of the Retro Rose Gold.
  • I wish it was waterproof. However, the company has made no such claims about it either.

IMBB Rating:</strong 4.25/5

In comparison, the product does not swatch as well as the Retro Rose Gold shade I reviewed earlier. However, considering the way it is supposed to be applied, this is not a big issue to deal with. This is a fabulous product considering the ease of application it provides with hardly any fall out through the course of wear.
