I recently purchased two shades- “Viola” and “Cherry darling” from Sugar Cosmetics Matte As Hell Crayon Lipstick range. I have already reviewed Viola, which is a flattering mauve-toned nude shade. In this post, I will be reviewing Cherry darling. Let’s get into the details.

My Experience with Sugar Cosmetics Matte As Hell Crayon Lipstick 10 Cherry Darling:

Packaging: Sugar Cosmetics Matte as Hell Crayon Lipstick has a slightly chubby, sharpenable pencil type packaging. The crayon stick is black coloured with a matte finish and color-coded end; just keep them upside down and colour-coded ends make it easy to pick up the desired shade. The crayon itself bears only shade name and no other detail. It has an outer cardboard packaging that houses all the information. There is a sharpener also, which has been specially designed for these crayons.

Shade: The shade “Cherry darling” has been defined as “cherry red”, and the name is apt. Though in some other lightening conditions, I feel that it is more like a brick red. Nevertheless, it is a sultry and striking cherry red that brightens up the complexion and enhances the look. When you want to turn all the attention on your lips, this shade will come handy; just put on some mascara and you are good to go, looking all dressed up.

Pigmentation: Crayon lipsticks from Sugar Cosmetics are insanely pigmented. With cherry darling, you get a uniform and intense color pay off with just one swipe. There is no pigment skipping. I have pigmented upper lip, but this crayon overshadows it. It hides lip pigmentation and shows off its very true color over the lips, but I have to swipe it 2-3 times over the upper lips to get the desired intensity.

Overall, one gets opaque finish or full coverage in just a single swipe. On top of that, the shade is easily buildable. If you want more intensity, then just swipe it again over your lips. To make the colour look a bit intense, I swipe it over the lips 2-3 times. It does not crumble or feel heavy on the lips.

Texture: The crayon lipstick in shade Cherry Darling has a rich creamy texture that glides over the lips without any tugging or pulling. There is no crumbling even if I swipe it for 2-3 times. Despite being creamy, it eventually sets to a soft, velvety matte finish – the finish I very much adore. It looks very soft, but sultry at the same time. There is no sheen to the shade. The formula of this crayon lipstick is very lightweight and feels very much comfortable on the lips. It has neither moisturizing nor drying formula, but it feels a bit drying after nearly 5 hours of wear time. I wear it over a lip balm, though.

Also, if I wear this color without exfoliating my lips, it clings to the dry patches for sure. Hence, prepping lips is must to prevent it from accentuating patchy lips. The best thing is that it is formulated without mineral oil, parabens, paraffin, phenoxyethanol, volatile cyclomethicones (D4, D5, and D6) and animal derived ingredients. The crayon does have a mild fragrance, which you will notice only if you sniff the product.

Staying Power: The staying power of these crayons is applauding. Likewise Viola, Cherry Darling also stays put for 6-7 hours, but cannot survive a complete meal. Though light snacking and drinking is alright, after having a complete meal, it fades from the center. Also, I have a habit of licking center of my lips, so, if you don’t do the same, then it will stay put for more than 7 hours on your lips without having complete meal. With Viola, there was minimal transfer, which made me think that Cherry Darling will transfer more. However, it is not the same case. Cherry Darling also transfers minimal to zero, which can be overlooked completely. Hence, you don’t have to worry about staining anything with your lips. Though it transfer minimally, but it does not bleed or feather at all.

When fading from the center, it does not bare the lips completely, but leaves a stain behind. And, I must say, the stain looks beautiful. Reapplying the shade is very easy; just blot the lips and apply the lipstick again. It does not crumble or feel heavy at all. Overall, the staying power is amazing and almost transfer-proof. The shade is very easy to remove; I just swipe cotton over the lips once with Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water. It gets removed completely and does not leave any stain behind.

Overall, Cherry Darling is a sultry cherry red shade, which I think everyone should have in their stash. Other than that, its pigmentation and staying power are also appreciable.
