Bollywood was buzzing with Arpita Khan’s wedding celebrations few days back. She is the adopted daughter of the Salim Khan family and the family sweetheart. Salman Khan made sure that her darling sister has her dream wedding and he shed crores of rupees for it. Even though the entire family is in showbiz, they still took out time for celebrations as a family. Salim Khan is blessed with one such happy and united family. Here is the list of 7 Bollywood Clans including the very popular-Kapoor family to the very complicated Bhatt family. Take a look at their family trees as well as their family pics.
The Kapoor Family: This is the oldest family in Bollywood. It started with Prithviraj Kapoor, all the way back in 1926. He was a theatre actor, who also worked in movies later. In fact, he worked as a supporting actor in India’s first talkies film- Alam Ara. His eldest son Raj Kapoor established his own studio- R.K. Films. Raj Kapoor then launched Randhir Kapoor in the movie ‘Kal Aaj aur Kal’ and Rishi Kapoor in ‘Bobby’. Ironically, he was the one who started the era of actresses wearing bikini. However, females in his family were not allowed to work in movies. Even Babita and Neetu had to leave their career after marriage. Karisma was the first daughter to do it. Karisma, Kareena and Ranbir are the 4th generation of this clan. Let’s hope to see more generations of it in Bollywood.
The Bachchan Family: Even though only 2 generations of this family has been in Bollywood, it is a very prominent family primarily because of the mega star- Amitabh Bachchan and the former Miss World and one of the world’s most beautiful women- Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan’s father Harivanshrai Bachchan was a renowned Hindi poet, madhushala being his most popular creation. Amitabh Bachchan was married to Jaya Bhaduri in 1973. They have 2 children-Abhishek and Shweta. Abhishek and Aishwarya were married in 2007 and have a 3 years-old daughter Aaradhya. Shweta Bachchan is married to Nikhil Nanda, who is Raj Kapoor’s maternal grandson. It is rumoured that it was in their wedding that Abhishek and Karisma first met in their wedding, after which their affair started. But fortunately or unfortunately, they broke up eventually.
The Bhatt Family: Three generations of this family have been in Bollywood. Mahesh Bhatt’s father Nanabhai Bhatt was a popular Gujrati and Hindi film-maker. He and his second wife Shirin had 5 daughters and 4 sons. Mahesh Bhatt also married twice. His first wife Kiran Bhatt (Pooja Bhatt’s mother) was born as Lorraine Bright. Bhatt’s 1990 musical hit Aashiqui was inspired from his and Bright’s romance. His second wife Soni Razdan (Alia’s mother) is half-german. This is one complicated family and it is difficult to understand how exactly each one of them is related. Emran Hashmi is a third cousin of Alia Bhatt. Their grandmothers are real sisters. She did not even know this when she saw him in the movie Footpath.
The Salim Khan Family: This family is one of the most prominent families of Bollywood. It is always in limelight mainly due to Salman Khan- be it some court case, his blockbuster movies or his being human work. His father, Salim Khan himself is an actor and screenwriter. He has four children with 1st wife Sushila Charak (Salma, after marriage)-Salman, Arbaz, Sohail and Alvira. He married Helen in 1981 without divorcing the 1st wife. They started living in a separate house after the wedding and they later adopted Arpita. Salma took care of 4 children on her own. At present, everyone is staying in the same house. Everyone in this family has inter-religion marriage. Sohail Khan is married to Seema Sachdev(a fashion designer) and they have two sons, Nirvaan and Yohan. Arbaz and Malaika Arora Khan have a son – Arhaan. Their sister Alvira is married to Atul Agnihotri.
The Akhtar-Azmi Family: Javed Akhtar is a famous poet, lyricist and scriptwriter. Most of his work was carried out with Salim Khan as a duo Salim-Javed before they split up for unknown reasons. His first wife is Honey Irani with whom he has his two children-Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. In case you are wondering who Honey Irani is, she is that wicked “Sheila Chachi” from Seeta and Geeta. 😀 Her sisters are Daisy Irani and Meneka Irani. Meneka Irani is the mother of Sajid Khan and Farah Khan. Daisy Irani is also an actress. Shabana Azmi is Javed Akhtar’s second wife. The cinematographer Baba Azmi is Shabana’s brother and Tanvi Azmi is her sister-in-law.
The Khan-Roshan Family: Rakesh Roshan is a producer, director and a former actor. His brother Rajesh Roshan is a music director who does music only for his movies. Their father Roshan was also a music composer of Hindi movies. Rakesh Roshan introduced his son Hrithik with the movie Kaho Na Pyar Hai with which he became a star overnight. At present, Hrithik is amongst the most good-looking and successful actors in Bollywood. Right after the success of his first movie, he married his girlfriend Suzanne Khan. However, they are divorced at present after 17 years of relationship! She is daughter of Sanjay Khan and sister of Zayed Khan.
Hrithik’s sister Sunaina is a cervical cancer survivor and has been chosen as one of the top 11 inspirational stories since 1984, in Savvy’s ‘I believe’ Collector’s Edition’. She received this honour for bravely fighting through the cancer.
The Mukherji-Samarth Family: These two families were linked with the marriage of Tanuja and Shomu Mukherjee. The Mukherjee clan in Bollywood was started by Sashadhar Mukherjee while the Samarth clan was started by Rattan Bai in 1940’s. Women of the 4 generations in the Samarth family have been in the acting field- right from Rattan Bai to Shobhna Samarth to Nutan and Tanuja to present-generation kajol, rani and Tanisha. Sashadhar Mukherjee had 5 sons-Rono, Joy, Deb, Shomu and Shubir and they were all in hindi/Bengali movies as producers, directors, music composers or actors. The 3rd generation members of Mukherjee family in Bollywood includes Ayan Mukherjee, Sharbani Mukherjee, Rani Mukherjee, Tanisha Mukherjee and Kajol.
