Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Anarchy Review

Hey lovely ladies,

Lipsticks! Lipsticks! And, some more lipsticks! Today’s review is about a bright shade from the ‘Urban Decay Vice Lipstick’ line. I really loved the earlier UD range – the Revolution Lipsticks and the Revolution Mattes. Stunning colours and great formula! So, it came as a big surprise when UD decided to revamp their entire lipstick range. Why fix something which isn’t broken, right? Anyway. When UD launched the Vice Lipsticks in 5 different textures I was super excited to try the range – till I came to know that the collection had 100 shades to choose from. I don’t know why but it just turned me off. If NARS releasing 50 shades of ‘Audacious‘ wasn’t too much, this one was way over-the-top. Net result – I didn’t pick a single one – till now.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Anarchy Review

Product Description:
What it is:
An innovative lip formula, now in an array of shades and finishes—encased in a sleek, faceted case.

What it does:
Get unbelievable laydown of color with just one swipe of Vice Lipstick. It features an array of addictive shades and six indulgent finishes—including 20 shades that are Sephora exclusives, in shades that range from bold brights to dark hues to versatile neutrals. Each shade applies smoothly (without dragging or skipping), hugs lips, and feels ultra-comfortable. Urban Decay’s proprietary Pigment Infusion System™ gives the formula its super-creamy texture, rich payout, and superior color dispersion.

This creamy formula is packed with nourishing ingredients. A butter blend comforts, hydrates, and enhances, leaving lips soft and conditioned, and never dry. Aloe vera, jojoba, avocado, and babassu oils nourish and soften lips. Illipe butter, derived from Malaysian illipe trees, provides long-lasting moisture, while the vitamins C and E deliver a hint of antioxidants.

What else you need to know:
Vice Lipstick comes in a modernized, luxed-up version of Urban Decay’s original lipstick case. And the shade-matched label (including the shade name and finish) makes it easy to find the right color within the depths of your bag.

Suggested Usage:
-Prime and define with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil. Follow with the matching shade of Vice Lipstick.

Price: USD 17/SGD 31 for 3.25 g
The earlier Revolution lipsticks were priced at $22 for 2.8 g. Very strange and pretty much unheard of for a brand to actually drop down their price with the launch of a new product, whilst increasing the quantity.

My Experience with Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Anarchy:

Packaging:
The brand kept the aesthetics same as their previous Revolution range and yet the packaging is very different. While both lipstick cases had a gunmetal finish, the new Vice lipsticks have a golden base and are much lighter than their previous avatar. While this makes the Vice lipsticks easier to carry, you do miss the heft of the Revolution lipsticks, which brought home the feeling of a luxury product in hand.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Anarchy Packaging

The detailing still remains the same with “UD” etched on the top of the cap and “Urban Decay” etched on the side of the cap and the actual bullet case. However, the addition of a colour coordinated sticker at the base really, really helps, in case you have more than one of these and you don’t store them in boxes.

The lipstick bullet has a regular twist-up mechanism and has “UD” etched on the side. Also, do note that you get more product with the new range than you did with the Revolution lipsticks – that too at a lower cost.

Overall, I’d say, even though I’m a sucker for packaging, I don’t feel the new packaging is a step down for the company. I think it is still aesthetically pleasing, and – if it helps – lower the price of the product (as long as the quality remains the same) and I am all for it.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Anarchy Front

Shade:
The shade, Anarchy, is a medium, cool-toned, vibrant fuchsia pink with a smooth, creamy and glossy finish. The shade is stunningly beautiful and extremely eye-catching. Having said that, it obviously will not be for everyone unless you are comfortable with bright shades on you. The shade is so vibrant and will hold its own across skin tones.

Texture:
The formula of this lipstick is creamy, smooth and glides on easily on the lips. It feels moisturizing and but not too heavy on the lips. Will discuss pigmentation separately, but this does not need to be built up. So, a thin layer is all you need. Being creamy, it will transfer to any surface it touches. However, this does not seem to impact the pigmentation of the lipstick too much. If you over- apply it will transfer more.

Pigmentation:
The lipstick is super pigmented. A single swipe gives you full opaque colour. To illustrate the point – the arm swatch is a single swipe of the lipstick!! You don’t need to build it up at all. The colour of the bullet is the colour on your lips.

Lasting Power:
The shade just stays put entire day. It does not budge. The only portion which diminishes in colour is the inner portion of my lower lip. Rest of it stays put throughout the day, through the meals.

Fragrance:
No fragrance at all.

IMBB Rating: 4.75/5

This shade performs exceptionally well and kind of surprised me the first time I tried it. I know I shouldn’t have felt surprised because the UD Revolution Lipsticks were similar in performance. If fuchsia shades are your thing, picking this one is a no-brainer. It does tempt me to try more shades from this line but choosing from a 100 options just makes it too daunting a task. Don’t you think so?
