I keep reading the reviews of the amazing L’Oreal product (Colour Caress Shine Stain) which is supposed to be a great dupe for the YSL Glossy stains. I intend to pick one of the L’Oreal ones just to test it, but before that, let me bring to you the original product – YSL Glossy Stain in one of the hottest shade there is – #9 Rouge Laque.
A revolutionary new lip product! Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain for a truly innovative lip product. A lightweight texture that immediately melts onto lips. Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain delivers intense glossy colour for an extremely long lasting new kind of shine. The applicator’s unique slanted tip and short soft bristles allow for flawless application with perfect precision.
How To Use:
For natural shine, apply one coat on the center of the lips and brush towards the outer corners. For more coverage and sophistication, apply two coats using the outer curved side of the applicator, then dab on the formula generously over lips.
US $35 / INR 2200
The product comes packaged in a lip gloss kind of packaging with YSL logo displayed prominently on the golden cap. The product is a cuboid cylinder. The product side is black in colour sans a strip of transparency allowing you to identify the colour (if you have more than one) and hopefully, you will be able to make out when you go low on the product. The bottle comes packaged in the standard YSL golden outer box – a nightmare to photograph. The applicator looks like a spade and is soft and bent – refer pics. Makes for easy and precise application. I prefer the length of this applicator, since its not very long, precise application is easier.
My Experience with YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain – Rouge Laque:
First, the product itself, a lot of people refer to it as a lip gloss, I truly believe it isn’t a gloss, despite the packaging. Even YSL has a separate category for it and does not feature it under their lipsticks or lip glosses. The only way I can describe it is as a liquid/cream lipstick.
Color: The colour “Rouge Laque” is bright, bold, glossy, in-your-face red. The kind of colour which instantly brightens any complexion, takes centre stage and you have to ensure that you keep everything else in your makeup minimal, lest your look goes over the top. I feel that the color will flatter all skin tones but will look very loud on fair Caucasian skin tones.
Texture: The liquid lipstick is lightweight, it is a watery liquid, which sets to a more gel-like consistency once applied. The testers I had tried, the consistency seemed much thicker, I realized this to be due to recurrent contact with air. The thicker consistency made it easier to apply. However, I was taken by surprise when I first tried my fresh piece with the consistency being watery. It took me a couple of applications to get the hang of it. The texture on lips post 5-10 minutes of application moves from watery to gel like and continues to retain the glossy finish. Its hydrating and very comfortable to wear. The texture is such that touch-ups once done, do not feel patchy. Rather, it goes evenly making the colour look fresh and bright.
Pigmentation: The pigmentation is great. You get full colour with one application. However, you need two coats to make the application even. With a single swipe, you do get nice glossy colour but for the full on force of the colour, you need to build it slightly by adding a little product.
Lasting Power: The product lasted about 5-6 hours on me. So, the company’s claims seem fair. The stain, which it leaves, stays for another 3 to 4 hours. What amazed me about the product was that in certain colours, there was little to no transference of the product, which is amazing for this kind of colour and type of product. . It will not come off fully on its own, you will need to use a makeup remover or cleanser to fully take it off.
Applicator: The product is easy to apply from the applicator. It goes on smooth and evenly – no patchiness whatsoever. Since its small in length, it adds to the greater precision. In my swatches, I do see to have gone off the lower lip line (refer lip swatch) –that’s because of people banging on the door asking how much time I will take before we can all move out! Why do men not understand the concept of 5 MORE MINUTES!!!
