Khadi Strawberry Soap Review

Khadi strawberry soap is my first buy from the Khadi brand. I went to Health and Glow in Hyderabad with the sole intention of buying the Khadi Peeling Scrub Gel Kesar reviewed on IMBB, but I found just Khadi soaps and nothing else from the brand in Health and Glow. Disappointed, I picked up just the strawberry soap. From the strong plastic packing, I couldn’t smell any type of fragrance, and since it was only Rs. 55 a bar, there was not a lot of thinking involved whether to buy it or not.

WHAT DOES THE LABEL CLAIM:

Strawberry soap excellent for all types of skin providing general cleanliness. It gives freshness after bath.

PRICE: Rs. 55 for 125 gm bar.

MY TAKE ON KHADI STRAWBERRY SOAP:

Since there are no major claims or stories behind the label or on any website, I decided to just use it without any expectations. The only thing I was expecting was that it should smell like strawberries, but when I opened the plastic covering, the bar smelt strongly of “Ambika Darbar Agarbati.” Even the agarbathi would not smell as strongly as this soap. Hmmmm….there was not an iota of strawberry fragrance….but taking bath with it is definitely refreshing. It did leave my skin drier and stretchy in the same way that the other soaps do; nothing remarkable that I noticed after using the soap. It is just an ordinary soap, but the difference is that this soap is handmade and buying them would boost our cottage and small-scale industries.

There is one other thing that I noticed with this soap, it does not show its TFM (total fatty matter) percentage. Most of the bathing soaps nowadays carry this percentage. In case you are thinking what TFM I am talking about, here’s the info from wiki:

Total Fatty Matter (TFM) is a measure for grading bathing soaps. Most fatty matter is derived from plants or animals. Higher percentages of fatty matter make soap softer by counteracting sodium and potassium salts. Generally, soaps with TFM more than 80% are said to be of Grade 1, and those soaps with a TFM between 65% and below 80% are said to be Grade 2.

This is a snapshot of TFM ratio of International Lux (Creamy White). This soap bar has 72% TFM and is grade 2, so that would make it a bit softer on the skin. We should look for soaps with more than 72% or more.

After having used the Khadi Strawberry Soap, here the pros and cons of it:

PROS OF KHADI STRAWBERRY SOAP:

• It gives a refreshing feeling.
• Handmade soap from small-scale cottage industries (please correct me if I am wrong).

CONS OF KHADI STRAWBERRY SOAP:

• Smells strongly of agarbatti.
• Does not carry TFM percentage.
• Does not smell of strawberries, but I hope the extract is there.
• Makes skin dry and stretchy.

WOULD I BUY KHADI STRAWBERRY SOAP AGAIN: I am in two minds actually, I think I would reserve my opinion.

IMBB STAR RATING: 2.5/5.

  12. I picked up a Khadi Aloe Vera soap last month @ Rs 55.00. I loved the smell ( Nothing strong, pretty subtle like real aloe vera) and the lather it produced. It is quite soft and seems to be moisturizing well. Over I liked the soap better than the Luxs and Vivels and cameys I would buy the Aloe Vera again and try the other fragrances.
