No matter what age group you belong to, unwanted body hair is a concern for all of us. There are different methods that you can use to get rid of those ugly hair such as shaving, sugaring, depilatory creams and waxing. Waxing is my favorite when it comes to hair removal, but it gets difficult to rush to the parlor every time. So, I choose to wax at home, and trust me it is a lot more convenient.
If you overlook the temporary pain caused by waxing, it will be really tempting to wax-at-home, because you will be free from those nicks or razor cuts. However, for waxing you need a lot more than a razor, so before you try waxing out, learn a few tips that will help you effortlessly wax without the help of your parlor-wali, and you will never have problems with ingrown hair and all the frustration they bring along. I have been doing it for quite some time now and it has been great so far.
1. Exfoliate before you wax
This is one of the best ways to prevent those ingrowths, exfoliate before and after you wax, either with your regular scrub or a loofah, and moisturize your skin later.
2. Don’t wax hair that is either too long or too short
For an ideal waxing, hair that is about 1/4th inch to 3/4th inch shall be waxed. If hair is shorter than that, it will adhere and in case it is too long, trim it with your scissors to make waxing less painful.
3. Use baby powder
Use baby powder before you wax, so the excess moisture in the area will get absorbed and the cloth adheres properly.
4. Test your wax before using
Yes don’t use wax that is too cold as it wouldn’t spread as well as hot wax; while if it is too hot, you’ll end up burning yourself. Test it on your wrist to make sure it’s at the right temperature.
5. Pull it right
Always make sure that you are putting the wax in the direction of your hair growth and pulling it against the direction. This makes sure that the hair comes off much easily. Stay as close as you can and do not pull upwards in the air.
6. Never wax an area twice
Please, never wax an area more than once, as it gets really painful and can be damaging to the skin. If you have hair left here and there, try tweezing them or wait for a day or two before you go over them again.
7. Use baby oil
Baby products always come handy while waxing. Using baby oil post wax will help get rid of any stickiness while moisturizing your skin.
8. Do not touch those ingrowths
I know it’s tempting, but do not play around with ingrown hair, as they may cause infections. If you have problems with ingrown hair, soak your skin in hot water, exfoliate and follow up with a salicylic acid treatment.
9. Brazilian wax at home is a NO-NO
Waxing this area can be quite difficult to do on yourself because it may be hard to reach and you may just end up hurting yourself. Get it done by your parlor-wali and save yourself all the trouble!!
10. Use hair inhibitors
These are a fairly new concept that helps in minimizing hair growth, at least I’ve heard of them recently. Inhibitors have to be used after hair removal methods (whichever you use) and they will eventually eradicate the need to wax more often. With the help of these inhibitors, the hair gets really soft, which makes waxing less painful.
So, get set go! 😉 Try waxing and let me know if these tips were of any help.
