Besame Cosmetics is one of those brands which I look upon to achieve that classic, vintage glamorous look. Besame Cosmetics was founded in 2004 and the woman behind this brand, Gabriela Hernandez, brought us the classic makeup colors from 1920s-1950s. It is the only modern makeup company with a true commitment to replicating the glamorous looks of the past, and they do an amazing job in creating the perfect retro vintage products. I already reviewed their gorgeous pink shade ‘Wild Orchid’ from their classic color lipstick range but Besame Cosmetics is all about Red Lipsticks, as vintage looks are never complete without red lips. So, today, I am going to talk about a beautiful red lipstick ‘Blood Red’ inspired by the year 1922. Without further rambling, let’s get into the details of this product.

My Experience with Besame Cosmetics 1922 Blood Red Lipstick:
Packaging: Usually Besame lipsticks have an outer red cardboard box but since I purchased quite a few products, they sent a special outer packaging for this lipstick. The special packaging is mainly for their red lipsticks. The lipstick is packaged in a card explaining the different types of reds they offer along with the photos of the gorgeous Hollywood beauties sporting the lipsticks. I love this packaging so much! The lipstick itself comes housed in a gorgeous gold bullet with the brand’s signature chrysanthemum flowers design in red. The shade name is also present at the bottom of the bullet. The gold-plated casing gives a sophisticated and luxurious feel when you hold it. Besame lipstick bullets are inspired by the 1940’s lipstick bullet, that’s why it is smaller in size than the usual lipstick bullets so that it perfectly fits in your purse. Each of these lipsticks is inspired from a particular decade of the Hollywood world and this shade is associated with the year 1922. Usually, lipsticks have a single flat end but this one is chiseled with 2 flat ends which make it easy to line and fill your lips. There is also a beautiful vanilla fragrance just like MAC lipsticks.
Shade: Each of their shades is based on actual vintage lipsticks and is named for the year that inspired it. Unsurprisingly, given their vintage aesthetic, there are plenty of red shades in the line. The shade ‘Blood Red’ is a gorgeous warm toned reddish brown shade, more like a blood color. This is a beautiful red that the company describes as looking like “a freshly bitten lip” which is so true. They also describe it as the “deepest red for the ultimate flapper” and while I agree that it has an ultimate deepness to it, which adds an extra oomph to the makeup look. All the lipstick shades in this line are universally flattering and I think that this shade is perfect for Indian skin tones, which makes it more special.
Formula: The formula of these lipsticks is divine. These lipsticks are highly pigmented and very opaque. It gives off a very rich color with just one swipe. This lipstick has a satin, semi-matte finish that delivers full coverage in one coat. The formula is packed with macadamia oil, vitamin C, chamomile, and aloe to leave lips feeling soft and hydrated. It applies smoothly to the lips and provides a full pigment with a single stroke. There is no major feathering, flaking, drying or smearing; this felt light and easy on the lips. I love this formula. It is one of the comfortable matte formulas that I have used in a long time.
Longevity: This product also has impressive wear. It lasted for almost 8 hours just like most of the traditional matte lipsticks. The lipstick faded evenly, instead of from the center. It is easy to reapply and also leaves a beautiful stain behind at the end of the day.
Packaging, formula, shades, retro style and all the minute details about this lipstick is a big hit for me. What should I say more? I love this lipstick, this brand especially, the hard work and dedication that they put into creating each and every product wows me. I think that every makeup lover should try at least one product from this line, and you won’t be disappointed.
