My Experience with Cle de Peau Beauté Gold 12 Luminizing Face Enhancer:

Packaging:  The product packaging is literally to die for! You can sit and stare at it for ages. Honestly, the packaging may have something to do with why I picked it up in the first place! The product comes in a largish square compact with a big mirror. The top of the compact is a three-dimensional crystal design which catches light at different angles and reflects it – making for this breathtakingly beautiful compact. It has decent heft – does not feel plastic-ky, but does not feel overly heavy like a Guerlain Meteorite Voyage Compact either.

It comes enclosed in a aux suede sleeve. The compact also houses a brush applicator. Honestly, the brushes which come along with compacts/eyeshadow palettes are generally crap. This being an absolute exception. The brush is extremely soft and works really well for application of the product. It picks up the product efficiently and distributes it well.

This product again has a bit of a history. This product got overly hyped somewhere mid 2014. The shade which became popular almost overnight was #13 Sand Beige; everyone went raving about it, but when the product got reviewed on IMBB, it didn’t get such a good rating. So, I pretty much dropped the idea of getting this. However, during one of my travels abroad, when I came across this highlighter, I was mesmerized. Against all common sense, I decided to pick this up. The only issue here, I did not remember the shade number – only name. And for someone who knows Cle de Peau or even MUFE – you would realize that the packaging does not have shade names – only numbers! So, when I asked for “Sand Beige,” I was happily handed #12. Since, I had never seen Sand Beige in person and did not remember the number, I gladly picked it up.

Whether it was a genuine error on their part or done on purpose because they were out of their best-selling shade, I really don’t know. Anyway, as it turned out, the happy coincidence worked in my favour. The issue with #13 Sand Beige seemed to be that it didn’t work for the medium skin tone, it was more suitable for Caucasian skin tone or a lighter skin tone. In this aspect, shade #12 Gold, worked out just fine.

Shade:  The powder has a beautiful mosaic of shades ranging from pale gold to yellow gold to bronzey gold. Swatched together, #12 Gold is a gorgeous pale yellow gold highlighter with a luminous sheen. It works well for our medium skin tone and would probably look even more stunning on deeper skin tones. I was wondering if the whole mosaic design is just an overspray. However, having used it for a couple of months now, I assure you that the design runs through the compact! Neat!

The highlighter has a beautiful luminous sheen which if you really sheer out and look closely, you can barely see a few minute gold particles, but they aren’t obvious and they gently catch the light without highlighting your pores. The beauty of the product also lies in the fact that the colour is so pretty that it would suit all skin tones and ethnicity. It would work across the spectrum.

Texture:  The product is extremely finely milled and smooth. It does kick up some powder in the pan though, but not too bad. The texture is really smooth. It goes on beautifully on to the skin and does not feel obvious and never feels cakey – even if applied heavily.

You literally cannot over do it. Trust me, I have tried! It has an understated elegance about it. If you like highlighters which are visible from Moon, yes, I am referring to theBalm Mary Loumanizer or Becca Moonstone, this isn’t for you.

On the contrary, this is something which is the more natural version of a highlighter and would be especially perfect for more mature or textured skin because it will give you a natural look highlight without making the texture of your skin more obvious.

Don’t get me wrong – I love my Becca Moonstone, but there is a time and place for that whereas this one is more timeless – can be used on a daily basis – even for work.

This highlighter lasts for about 8 hours on my oily/combination skin – so pretty much a full day.
