I have reviewed quite a few shades from Colobar’s Velvet Matte lipstick range, namely “Stay True,” “Mysterious Ways,” “Raise Ur Glass,” , Way Beyond, “Glancing Stare.” So far, I think “Mysterious Ways” and “Stay True” are the best and unique shades in my lipstick collection. This (Check Mate) is a magenta berry pink lipstick but has serious staining issues, like all other Colorbar lipsticks.

My Experience with Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick Check Mate:
“Check Mate” is a cool-toned shade but still would suit Indian skin tones. The lipstick is semi matte, not too creamy but functional. I have many other velvety lipsticks in my stash. The color is pretty.
It looks dark in the tube, but it comes out as a deep magenta pink with some berry tones on the lips. It looks quite nice on the lips and barely moves out of the lip line. I think most age brackets and skin tones can carry this pink lipstick with ease. I don’t think this is a moisturising lipstick at all, but it works for my normal lips, but women with dry lips will have to reconsider.
I do wish the lipstick was creamier. It transfers very less and lasts easily for 5 hours or more. Unfortunately, it does stain a lot. All these lipsticks from the Colorbar Velvet Matte range leave a deep pink stain (some research into the ingredients of Colorbar lipsticks is needed).
Otherwise, it is a pretty bright deep magenta sort of a color to own for most skin tones.
Pros of Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick Check Mate:
- Semi-matte finish.
- Cool-toned magenta-berry pink lipstick.
- Would suit most skin tones.
- Lasts well.
- Does not move around.
- Affordable.
Cons of Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick Check Mate:
- Not a matte lipstick contrary to what Colorbar claims.
- Not moisturising enough.
- Leaves a bad magenta stain on the lips.
- The shade might look scary in the tube.
Would I Repurchase/Recommend Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick Check Mate?
I like the color but the stain is disheartening. I wish Colorbar would do some changes about it. I recommend the color to berry or magenta lovers.
