In this post, I’ll show how to make a refreshing face mist and ice cubes at home with cucumber and mint. Since the temperature is soaring, we all must keep a face mist handy for instant hydration and nourishment. Read on to know more about this awesome DIY idea.
Ingredients and their benefits:
Cucumber is a natural cleanser and coolant. It soothes and calms down inflamed skin and treats sunburn effectively. It has the capability of revitalising the skin and keeping it healthy and glowing. Cucumber juice efficiently dissolves whiteheads and blackheads while its astringent property tightens the pores and keeps acne at bay. Cucumber also helps in reducing dark spots and blemishes, too. It keeps skin mattified for a long time and keeps those pores clean.
Mint leaves are known for their anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antioxidant properties. These leaves are rich in vitamin A, B and C. Vitamin A helps in reducing oiliness while vitamin B complex brightens up the skin and makes it clean. Mint leaves possess astringent property, and because of that, it can tighten the pores and make your skin even-toned. Not to forget, the salicylic acid in these leaves treats acne as well.
Rose water helps in maintaining the pH level of the skin. It has antibacterial properties, which help in treating acne. It hydrates the skin while making it fresh, smooth and radiant. Aside from this, rose water helps in reducing scars. It tones the skin very efficiently and smoothens out the texture.
I have an oily and acne-prone skin, thus I used tea tree essential oil in this facial mist. Tea tree oil is known for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. Hence, it helps combat acne and also reduces blemishes. You can use an essential oil of your choice.
Facial mist recipe:
Dice a peeled cucumber and take a handful of mint leaves. Blend these ingredients together in a food processor to make a nice puree.
Strain out the juice from the puree using a strainer or cheesecloth. Do not throw this pulp away after straining the juice.
Pour this strained juice into a spray bottle.
Fill the rest of the bottle with rose water and add 3-4 drops of your favourite essential oil. Shake it well and your facial mist is ready.
Facial ice cubes recipe:
Take the pulp residue of cucumber and mint puree. Add a small amount of rose water to make a smooth mixture.
Mince some mint leaves and add to the mixture. Mix all the ingredients very well.
Pour the above-prepared mixture into an ice tray and let it freeze. Later, your ice cubes will be ready.
• If you are allergic to any of the ingredients used in these recipes then do not go for this DIY.
• Always do a patch test before applying anything new on the face.
• You can add green tea or chamomile tea instead of rose water.
• For soothing and calming effects you can opt for lavender essential oil as well.
• If you want to make just the ice cubes, simply freeze the puree and your ice cubes will be ready.
