Greetings everyone,
While we love dewy skin the excess shine on oily skin can be annoying. Excess oil production can clog up the pores and increase the chances of blackheads, whiteheads and breakouts. In addition, your makeup won’t stick for a long time either. Thus, in order to keep the skin from getting oily, here are a few simple tips you can follow. So, let’s get into it.
Cleanse face twice a day
Cleansing the skin is an important part of the ritual. It makes the skin free from dirt, sweat, impurities and bacteria. Use a mild cleanser twice a day to keep the skin clean and refreshed. If you continue to experience oily skin even with the use of a mild cleanser, try to switch with a deep cleansing or oil-controlling face cleanser. Always wash off the cleanser with normal or lukewarm water. Never use hot water as it may dry out the skin that can lead to excessive sebum production.
Opt for chemical exfoliators
The use of chemical exfoliators helps in keeping oil at bay. They help in exfoliating the skin and improve its texture. Chemical exfoliants not only keep oily skin at bay but also help in treating pigmentation. In addition, you can try chemical peels as well. Chemical peels help in removing dead skin cells effectively and control oil production.
Do not forget a toner
If you have oily skin, a toner is a must. It helps in absorbing excess oil from the skin and removing residue effectively. For your toner to be effective, apply it over oily parts only. Using it all over your facial skin can lead to the formation of dry patches, which you’d definitely not like. While choosing the toner, opt for one with alcohol, peppermint or camphor extracts or salicylic acid to prevent excess oil production. Religious use of toner helps in tightening the pores as well.
Apply an oil-free moisturizer and sunscreen
Always apply a moisturizer to keep the moisture intact in the skin, but do not put on moisturizer with emollients liberally. In fact, steer clear of moisturizers with shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, etc. as they are beneficial mainly for dry skin. For oily skin, they are comedogenic and clog up the pores. Look out for oil-free moisturizers to keep the skin hydrated and oil-free. In addition, try to use oil-free sunscreens as well. They help in keeping the skin oil-free and without clogging up the pores.
Use matte primer to avoid oil build-up
Whether you are going for a subtle makeup look or heavy makeup, always use a mattifying primer. Not only it helps in keeping makeup intact but also prevents the skin from getting oily. Always apply a matte primer after moisturizing your face. It helps in absorbing excess oil all day long and gives makeup a smooth finish.
Always carry blotting paper
Blotting papers can be your best buddy! To absorb excess oil produced use blotting papers especially when outdoors. Whenever you feel like oil is appearing on the skin, blot it away with the blotting paper. Always use a blotting paper only for the oily areas. Just press it on the skin for a few seconds and let it absorb oil; do not rub it on the skin.
Make clay mask or deep purifying mask your friend
For oily skin, clay and deep purifying masks are like a boon. If you experience oily skin, use a clay mask or a deep purifying mask twice a week. Such masks help in absorbing dirt and impurities. They also unclog the pores and tighten them up. In addition, a clay mask or a deep purifying mask keeps the skin mattified for a longer time.
Consume oil-controlling foods
Have a fibre, antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids rich diet. When you cut down unhealthy and processed food, you can notice a change in your skin. In addition, keeping yourself hydrated is also important as dehydration can trigger oil glands and they can end up with excessive sebum production. This, in turn, makes skin oilier.
