ELF Contouring Brush Review

Hello fellow IMBBians,

I love well contoured and chiseled face; however, I took my own sweet time to learn the skill of blending and shadowing my face without any harsh, muddy streaks across my face. I am still a dilettante and not an expert, but at least, now I know where the darker shadow should begin and where the lighter highlight should go. This entire task became easier after I bought this brush from ELF.

ELF Contouring Brush

Product Description:
This brush is specifically designed for advanced makeup application to help achieve professional looks. The densely packed hair and structured shape achieves flawless dimension along the cheekbones, forehead, and jaw line for targeted contouring. Perfect for using with pressed or loose bronzer powder, liquids, and creams to create beautiful sculpting all over the face. This brush is made by artisans with expert craftsmanship to cut, shape, and hand-assemble the ultra-fine synthetic hair for a luxurious experience.  Apply color on the sides of the brush for a natural blend of color or use the top of the brush for fuller coverage. Blending using back and forth motions to blur harsh lines for a flawless complexion.

How To Use:
Sweep brush over cheekbones for a flush of color. Use the pointed edge of the brush to sculpt the face and contour around the hairline and jaw line.

My Take on ELF Contouring Brush:

I was excited when I bought this brush, but not so much after I used it because I found it a bit too stiff for blending purposes. I then gave it a second shot with a cream bronzer and got much better results.

Packaging:  It might just be a $6 brush, but it sure does not look like one – it has a very classy and expensive finish. It is all black with black bristles; they are packed in a steel holder which has been attached to a plastic holder. On the plastic holder, “ELF” is written in white.

Brush Bristle Quality:  They are synthetic bristles and are super soft, but not so fluffy mostly because there is no room for the bristles to be fluffy since they are so tightly packed and are not that long.

Product Distribution:  Like I have mentioned earlier, it is not that fluffy, so it is not that efficient at blending powder products, but it helped in precise application of dark bronzer wherever it was required which is a huge feat for a novice like me who is still learning the nuances of contouring.

Bristle Density:  Very dense but not fluffy enough to make blending of powder bronzer easier.

Cleaning:  This brush is easy to clean and dry (just put it in an upright position to drain out all the water) and it does not shed as other cheap brushes that are available in the market.

Usage: It is good for contouring and highlighting. The shape of the brush is ideal for adding dark color to the hollows of cheek, sides of forehead, chin, sides of nose and all other such places which require darker color. It might work for powder bronzer for people with longer or fuller face, but I have a tiny round face and not enough area to work with, hence I have to be very precise with application of bronzer, blush and highlighter shades.

  • No shedding.
  • Good for contouring, highlighting, and any sort of precise application of colors to the face.

  • Not fluffy enough for good blending.
  • Not that suitable for powder products.

Would I Repurchase ELF Contouring Brush?

No, because it would last me a while and I like to try out new products every time. I do recommend it to all those who are trying to master the art of contouring.
