This article is a review of a moisturizing toner by The Face Shop – Rice Ceramide Moisturizing Toner. It has a very unique consistency. It is thick and viscous unlike the usual toners that have a watery consistency. I usually put toners to the “ten step Korean skin care routine” test and if I notice any change in my skin texture, only then I deem it worthy of my money, otherwise, it is an accessory that can be avoided.
Rice and ceramide work hand in hand to give skin more intense hydration in this updated formulation. Moisture-rich nutrients and extracts help strengthen skin from within, improving elasticity and revitalizing it further.
My Experience with The Face Shop Rice Ceramide Moisturizing Toner:
I love to slather my face with face mist and skin toners, especially those from the Korean brands. That is why face toners make a huge part of my Korean skin care haul. Toners and mists instantly add hydration to dry skin and prep it for further skin care and subsequent makeup application.
A toner should be used right after cleansing and face wash. It is best to apply it before water on the skin dries out completely and gives a stretchy feel to skin. This toner by The Face Shop comes in a bottle with a packaging that looks similar to cough syrup packaging. It does not have a pump dispenser so the product cannot be directly sprayed on face rather has to be dabbed on with a cotton pad or patted on with palms. The packaging is not unique but serves its purpose well.
This product mostly contains water and glycerin and the third ingredient is alcohol which can be a little drying for some, but since it is the third ingredient, its percentage will be lower than the first two. It contains rice bran extract which is moisturizing and is a good exfoliating agent. It also contains ceramide which is also a good moisturizing agent. Apart from this, the product contains chemicals such as polymers and heavy oils, which at least to me, don’t offer any appeal. It does not contain paraben or artificial coloring but does contain artificial fragrance.
The product comes in a 150 ml size bottle which is good quantity for the money paid. It has a smaller version as well. It has a very subtle floral fragrance which vanishes soon. If this is the only toner on my vanity, I would use it but if I have to choose
from a bunch of toners, I would give it a pass.
Pros of The Face Shop Rice Ceramide Moisturizing Toner:
- An affordable face toner, comes in a good size bottle.
- The packaging is not appealing, it’s sturdy.
- Subtle, floral fragrance.
- No artificial color.
- Ingredient list is clearly disclosed in English (not usually done by other Korean brands).
- The ingredient list is very appealing and mostly has natural ingredients.
- Adds a little moisture to skin and preps it for further layering of skin care products.
Cons of The Face Shop Rice Ceramide Moisturizing Toner:
- Availability can be an issue for some, but some Korean websites do ship to India as well.
- The packaging does not have a pump dispenser, which is disappointing for me.
- Contains a few natural ingredients, has chemicals mostly.
This toner has a unique consistency (it is viscous which is rare for toners). I do not find myself reaching for it often and I will not repurchase it. I recommend it only to those who want to dabble with new products otherwise it can be skipped.
