Fashion and You Website Review

fashion and youFashion and You (fashionandyou.com) is a website with which all the Indian female online shoppers have been enamored lately. Many of the online shoppers on IMBB, including my wife, have also tried shopping on the website. I was planning to write a review on the website since Rati had already done a fair amount of shopping from there, but Radhika beat me to it (Read her reviews HERE and HERE). 🙂 Anyhow, there are still good, bad, and ugly points about Fashion and You website that need to be told. By the way, the online retailer raised $8 million (about INR 36 crores) from the venture capitalist firm Sequoia Capital. A good enough money to provide great service, right? Wrong!

How Fashion and You Works:

The modus operandi of the website is fairly simple- it gains footfalls through heavy online advertising (mainly through Google adwords) or through personal referrals (If a fashion and you user refers the website to someone else he/she gets a Rs. 1000 voucher if the referee purchases from fashion and you. Also, the referee gets Rs. 250 voucher initially)
Fashion and You stocks and sells products of various brands. Most of the products are at a highly discounted prices which is highly tempting to the shoppers. Hence the fair deal of interaction of IMBB users with Fashion and You website.

The Good

  • The Website- The website is very pleasing and fun for an online shopper. It is not drab or dull like many other online shopping websites. In fact it is really snazzy and alluring for many online shoppers, hence they feel an urge to shop at Fashion and You. Kudos to the site designers and developers.
  • Customer Care- The customer care is available on the phone Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. You can get through them easily and most of your queries will be solved. Where ever  online purchasing is concerned, it is good to have someone you can speak to. Granted that many a times the customer care executive is clueless about a certain product but it is to be expected. When a company is sporting hundreds of products an executive cannot know about all of them. But they are genuinely helpful.
  • Product Delivery- Rati purchased thrice from Fashion and You- once a pair of shoes, once a set of bangles, and once a pair of sunglasses for me. Each time, the delivery was prompt and efficient. I don’t know if this is the case because we are in Delhi or the website is prompt in delivery in all the cities. All in all, we have been impressed with the speedy delivery of products.

The Bad

  • The Voucher System- As I mentioned earlier, if you refer Fashion and You website to someone and he/she purchases from the website, you get a Rs. 1000 voucher. Also, the referee gets a Rs. 250 voucher. But there’s a catch: You cannot use the Rs. 1000 voucher till you make a purchase of at least Rs. 1500 and Rs. 250 voucher till you make a purchase of at least Rs. 750. Well, they are making you spend at least some of your money on the site which makes a perfect business sense. But it gets highly irritating when you find out that you cannot combine the vouchers to purchase a product. That is, each voucher has to be used separately. Rati in fact got so irritated by this that she decided NOT to shop from Fashion and You website again. There were other reasons also as we shall see in the ugly part.

The Ugly

  • The Products- The worst part of Fashion and You are the displayed products themselves. Strangely enough, every time Rati has liked a product on their website and tried to locate the same product in the catalogue of the original brand, she has failed. She liked some sandals from ‘catwalk’ on Fashion and You and when she checked two ‘Catwalk’ stores themselves, the sandals weren’t there. The same happened with the ‘Forever New’ bangles that she purchased from the website. The bangles were nowhere in ‘Forever New’s’ store. The same happened with a jewellery piece from Tiffany and co. showcased on Fashion and You. The piece was nowhere in Tiffany’s online catalogue. Somehow, every time we try to compare the prices of a product offered on the F&Y website by cross checking it with the catalogue of the original brand, the product isn’t there. What is happening? Is Fashion and You offering obsolete products? Is the website warehousing products that have been discontinued by the companies and given to it at cheap prices?
  • Newness of the Products- We have purchased three products from Fashion and You and our emotions were aptly expressed by Pooja on Radhika’s blog- “the things you buy from roadside are in better condition than those from Fashion and You.” We have felt the same. All three products delivered were unbroken, but every time we opened the parcels, the excitement of getting our product died down. None of the products felt new. There was no shine or ‘crispness’ of a new product. Even my Ray Bans that I got felt ‘old’ although I did not say it to Rati at that time as it was a gift and I did not want to disappoint her.
  • Refund of Products- The sandal that Rati purchased from the site was one size higher than what she wanted. Therefore, Rati asked for a refund. If you ask for a refund, they deduct Rs. 200 from your account which was fine by us. But we wanted them to take the products back. Till date no one has come to collect the sandals from us.

In Retrospect

If someone thinks deeply, one can understand that no company would give such high discounts on products which they are currently offering in their showrooms or their own online shops. Why would someone purchase from their showrooms then? But all the companies have stocks that they can dispose of, that they are not offering to their customers anymore. And that is where this website has come into picture. At least this is what it looks like from the stock of products they are offering.

On our part, we are saying goodbye to Fashion and You forever. I do hope that they refund the sandals that Rati purchased or we would have to write it off as bad debt.

  1. My sister referred me to FnU – in fact, I specifically asked her to give me the referral since I would be shopping and she could get the money. After my second purchase, I asked her if she got the Rs. 1000 credit from FnU. She hadn’t. She mailed the customer service ppl but has not received any response from them regarding this as far as I know.

    1. huuhhhh?? 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 I toh got the credit bt that’s irritating that i have to pay some 600 (500 + 100 shipping) bucks more to redeem it. from business point of view it makes sense bt from customer’s point of view, it’s not fair. Plus you cant combine your vouchers.. why? so that you can mint more money that ways..

  2. Now, m really scared, as I have purchased some jewelery from them on COD basis :weep: Hope for the best :tremble: But someone please do post this link of their FB fan page!!!

    1. Sneha..most times ppl do get the products safely besides you have picked the COD option so have nothing to worry about. It’s usually with refunds that ppl find they get cheated. It won’t be a problem if the company didnt promise “faster easier returns.” I won’t have bought the shoe if I had known about their actual return policy – which is you bought now you can do nothing about it.

Aptly described ….!!! :yes: :yes: I too feel its better to go & shop personally from the showrooms than make online purchases at Fashion & You… I have ordered 3 times from them, the shipping cost is 100 rupees which is quite high I feel, considering they take 3-4 weeks to deliver… :teeth: :teeth: As you said most of their products are old n obsolete but one can get good deals on perfumes but thats not unique of F&Y, almost all online shopping sites give similar discounts on perfumes.. So in short its a pass for me too… I have stopped wasting my money on F&U purchases… :zombiekiller:

    1. The perfumes aren’t terribly cheap there. And I have seen similar deals at Shoppers Stop, but I live in a city and have access to these brands. The site makes the most money from people who don’t have easy access to all these brands.

I agree with you SanjeevJi, just some time back I purchased a Bangle (Kada) from F&Y and when I recieved the box I was super thrilled, but was disappointed on opening it as I dint feel the product was a fresh piece… Luckily I dint have to shell out too much from my pocket to understand that F&Y is not the place for me.

Actually, I feel these sites should learn from Utsavsarees.com……Manorama, who is regular reader of IMBB….contacted me through mail before making purchase through utsavsarees since I had a post on IMBB….after confirming with me….she went ahead and got the saree and she confirmed that with me yesterday….she was happy :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:

    1. oh that’s great jomol.. people do look for quality no matter how much they are paying. It’s sad they are sending puraana kind of stuff . People do expect crisp new products only. they never mention that they are selling second hand or discarded products. The photos on the website are too alluring bt that’s not what is delivered.

          1. actually no.. the fault is not customer care’s guys. they are just puppets in the hands of their trainers. It’s the guys who are cracking such deals and selling just whetever. Such things are also bringing the names of brands down. I really like forever New bt after seeing the bangles I have a huge about about their quality.

One thing i see is that type of hype started as copy from the very famous US website Gilt that is operated by the GILT Group and well famous for their high standards worldwide, they started with this idea of membership only uber designers deals, and they deliver only within US, even i am a member….

    However the trend got on this FnU, Snap Deal and the infamous 99Labels that i dearly hate…..with that I wouldnt say that they prey on people’s vanity, but rather on our willingness of having nice things at affordable prices

    And like i said on Rads Blog…I believe that we don’t comment on bad online shopping experiences because we people are afraid of being perceived as naive on allowing being fooled…or don’t expect the retailer to keep his part of the transaction anyways, if you get the product is cause you are lucky not cause you paid for it…

    But my fear is that we don’t share such experiences because we have become so cynical with life hardships that we don’t believe that our words/opinions and fighting can change anything anymore…

  20. Sanjeev ji, I think these guys do sell discontinued products, I ordered a Lord & Berry eyeshadow from 99 lables & when I searched on google found the product to be discontinued :stars:

Yea Uzma i saw that 99Labels once i went to check they sell Forever New there…and it was like clothes of 3 years past already (means at 4 collections a year its was past 12 already)….and i think the prices they put is all fabricate…Take fragrances for example…its mostly or higher than high street price (Lifestyle,Shop Stoppers…)

  23. The same thing happened with my sister..she sooo wanted to buy a pair of catwalk sandals but surprisingly she hadnt seen it anywhere and any of the catwalk stores !
    Just sometime back I was telling Rads,they were selling Lancome Microdermabrasion cream for just 200 bugs when the original price is atleast over two thousand 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐

      1. was it close to expiry? or maybe it failed quality standards… allcosmeticswholesale.com sells products that fail quality standards… cud be anything from wrong finish, incorrect pigmentation… but they mention that and let u choose! they also sell discontinued stuff cheap…

          1. it is… they tell u that we get the pieces from manufacturer and sell them cheap… if a mac or a ysl lippie fails to meet the color or pigmentation standard, they will not release it in the market. right? such products are heavily marked down, stripped of branding and sold there…

            there are plenty and more who will buy it at marked down prices…. specially since they are being told upfront what it is!

  25. i just checked out today’s offers on FnU site … they are selling women’s TSHIRTS ( sum I KNOW BRAND ONES)
    the second tshirt on display (mare top) is same as the one i have been seeing here in vileparle market since 3 months …the tshirt is same …same colors n pattern n design ..everythin is same .. only thing is over here in market we get it for 150 rupees… FnU is sellin the same top for 786 rs …. :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

  26. I love you all…it means a big deal to me that you all stood up for me. I saw a post on their Facebook page that the banner will be taken down immediately. However, they have not yet responded to my mail as of yet or acknowledged/apologized in any manner for their blatant theft.

  29. abt the credits… i got credits when i joined…. i choose 750 worth of products during the lotus sale but for some strange reason, the transaction didn’t go thru… my credits exired when i used them first and then they were never credited back to me 🙁

  30. hi- i am a regular customer of FnU..i have bought a few things – chappals, gold stilletos, ambika eye kit etc..while the chappals and the eye kit were fine, the gold stilletos had some kind of a greyish mark on one of them. probably not noticeable to ppl but then its a rip off na???..pain to return it so will use it anyways in the hope that noone notices. think thats where they make their money..how many ppl actually return stuff!!!!

    ya it does take an awfully long time to get delivered.

No problems of anything….I have ordered shoes, clothes, cosmetics and even accessories. But touchwood* everything was in perfect condition. :))

  45. I totally agree on delivering the old stuff. I mean I had forgotten about that part until I read your post. I had ordered meenakari earrings and the finishing was bad at some places, paint was coming off. Also recently I had the most horrible experience with them. I had ordered couple of books for my hubby’s b’day on 14th March and was hoping them to deliver it before 28th. Till date I’m following up with them for my order. This whole time they kept telling me the order is in quality check deptt and will be despatched in 2-3 days and when I called yesterday again, the lady told me they dont have the product and I can cancel my order….I was so enraged, I really did not have the words….I’m never gonna order anything from that place again…..I’m definitely done with them 🙁 😐

  46. I couldn’t read all the comments but I quite agree with the conclusion. I have had couple of bad experiences with fashionandyou too, ordered goods (knee high boots, ambika pillai nail paint), were paid for then never reached, when I inquired they had no clue about it, on constant follow ups they told me it’s out of stock and that the money will be refunded, the support team sent me an email regarding the same, am still waiting for the refund though 😐 and this happened in January.

    In India that’s the issue with retail websites, however, whenever I’ve ordered anything from any of the sites based abroad (asos.com, victoria’s secret, etc.) I’ve always received my orders on time and in perfect condition. And they are the “in” thing too, not old stock. Sigh! I hope they read this!!!

    thn 2dy i read this post n i was soooo disgusted after reading all of these comments tht i promptly called them n asked for a refund n he said that they cnt refund d money.instead,they ll give me store credit.but i was scared tht i said that i dnt want 2 by from them again as wats the gurantee tht this time they ll deliver authentic product n if they dnt n if i ve 2 return the product,then they ll again deduct 200 shipping charges..i was screaming at them n told them tht tehir reputation is going down coz of all this n that there r a lotta dissatisfied customers(read imbbians!!) n that i had taken a picture of that bag(which of course was a BIG FAT LIE) n if they dnt do smething abt it ,m gonna go 2 d ed hardy showroom and get frm them in writing tht its a fake n then all their claims of “v sell only authentic n geniune stuff” ll fall flat! turns out,ths DHAMKI worked like a charm n he said mam v cnt refund ur money but v ll nt deduct 200 shipping charges frm u so u can make a purchase of 1220.

    Please don not order from fashion and you , i have had only bad experiences with them. i ether dont get the full order or i get the wrong order. n these guys take 2 months to deliver that wrong product its really not worth d wait also sometimes ur order gets cancelled and they money you have transfered through ur card never comes back..

  51. I ordered some stuff on 5th March hoping to get it at least within the ridiculously long 3-4 weeks promised on their website. But till date I haven’t got anything.
    I started calling and mailing fashionandyou about a month back and was told to have patience. Then on 11th April, I wrote to them and got a revert saying that part of my order had failed quality test. I told them to at least send the part which was fine. Got no revert.
    Then on 13th, I called them and screamed at 2 customer service (yeah, right!) executives since the first one hing up on me!!!!!!
    I was told the same thing as you. that it would be dispatched in 72 hours and that I would get a refund for the remaining pieces. I called them again today and was conveniently told the same line again.
    When I said that I wanted an exact date or a refund, I was simply told that my request for cancellation has been filed and my order has been cancelled.
    Can you imagine? After all this time!!!! Most irritating. This is the worst online shopping experience ever! whoever said retail therapy was supposed to be good for you obviously never used this stupid website!

  52. Just dont purshase from fashion and you. They are not so good at these ONLINE shopping. First ur order may not be confirmed. Secondly if confirmed they will take their own sweet time to deliver i.e. 3-4 weeks , thirdly even if u get it before this timeline, there always is a chance that the product might not be the same or defective. If not delivered with this SLA, then u would have to chase them about ur orders..When delivered , chances are almost 33% of the product to be faulty..and this is ur duty to update them , (they have so called Quality Check dept..which have all but insane people who can not differentiate between black and brown, or XXL or XS size..even full sleeve or half sleeve shirt.) Finaly ur money shall be refunded after another 2-3 weeks , that too in CREDIT points, which forces u to shop again and the ordeal continues…Even their CEO-Ms Pearl is non responsive…The customer care stincks…and is not at all up to the mark. Rest is your choice..Best of shopping..

Do not buy from Fashion and You if you want to save your time and money.

  56. This website, Fashion and you gives worst online shopping experience. I have bought a saree for my mom. I thought I’ll surprise her on her birthday. But its been a month, she hasn’t received it yet and when I see the delivery status it shows that order has been delivered to a wrong city. When I contact the customer care, first they try to convince me that its delivered correctly. When I send them the courier company’s delivery status showing wrong destination city, they promised me to investigate. But for more than 10 days still fashion and you and the courier company are not able to tell me where my order has been delivered. Every time I call them they say 72 hours to investigate and also not ready to refund the money. And as far as my past experience with them, the product was old and never found the same product in the stored. It was like the brand CK had removed the product from market ages ago,at least 5 years back . I am regretting for buying from them and have decided never to shop with them again.

    These people commit something and deliver half of the things..I am frustrated with FASHION AND YOU PEOPLE..these people are so unprofessionals..
    I ordered some products which i received on 01st Aug. I found that 3 items were missing in total, from that day its only me who is following with them..its their duty to give me updates..i call them every 2nd day..but whenever i call them..they put me hold for 10-12 mins..they think people are busy and DON”T WORK like them..
    Also they commit that they’ll give u call back with a solution..but forget about solving problem..they dont even reply to your mails..what they are giving me is credit and voucher which i DON’T want..i want the MISSING products or MONEY..what these guys think..will i ever even think of purchasing any damn thing from fny again…Its my first purchase with them and the experience is PATHETIC
    Till date no solution..its been more than a MONTH now..they want me to accept a credit of sme amt which is penny for me..i guess I have wasted for than that by calling them..they don’t want to solve problem..rather they believe in stretching the case till the customer dies..
    I think now I have to visit their corporate office and make them learn some “PROFESSIONALISM”
    The biggest question is “Will they ever return my products or my money?”

  62. I too have a bad experience with fashion and you, recently.. I ordered 3 items and 2 of them were delivered, in which one was not the one i ordered. When i contacted they asked to send a picture of the item received and later they gave a number to contact them. When i spoke to them they asked me to return the item through courier, there is no replacement and only part of the money will be refunded.. I’m really disappointed in this point (Why should i pay unnecessarily without receiving any item).. I’m going to send this item anyway as i don’t like it and will never use it.. Let me see whether they refund at least what they promised..

And thank god its cosmetics not any fake clothing… i too had an inkling that they were selling fake electronics..     1st call them to reject my order,before their confirmation call.They said that they have already processed that for currier.You can reject the surrier once it comes to you.Parcel suppose to be deliver in 24hrs but After 2-3 weeks(Mean while My pet was passway for whom I made this order) I got a call from Currier boy for parcel. i told him that I don’t want this ,please return this to Fashionandyou.
    Since then I was calling Customer service to refund my money back,but everyday they say that they have not recive parcel at all.
    But story doesn’t end here
    After few day My neighbour told me that someone has drop your parcel at our home. O:) That currier boy drop that currier without my or someone else sign on recieve slip.
    I called again to F&U,They said we cann’t refund you cash for it.For it you have to shop of same amout (at one time and only one product,if that is less than this amount they will not refund back money,neither they allow to use remaining for next shoping) Plus I hve to currier back that parcel back to them on my own cost.I warn tehm to go to consumer court.Then they give me number of blue dart,I called there to take that parcel,but that number was wrong.I called F&U,agian a new number which never contacted,followed by a new number and so on but 2 month pass but that parcel is with me.

    They have replied saying, we will re-dispatch it and notify you but it has been 4 months now. It was a prepaid order, my money is gone 😥 😥

I too had a very bad xprence with Fashionandyou. bought 2 ladybird sweaters for my kid. they turned up to be old and dusty. oneof the sweater was with 3-4 broken threads that will loosen and open up after a single wash. seems that they were some rejected old peices at some store. Came up 2 this site too late.

  81. People please dont buy anything from Fashion and you except for via COD. I want to share my experience, I tried to buy a product from them online, paid via my credit card. The amount was deducted from my account right away. But the product wasnt ordered and displayed as cancelled. Now when i call then to refund the money back, they say we cannot cross check untill i send my credit card statement to them. The question is that credit card statement is a confidential document, and how am i supposed to tell them that the amount is credited from my credit card without handing them over all my credit card details. Ridiculous. I just advice people to buy from so many other reliable shops online, and if you really want to buy from fashion and you do via COD ONLY.

  85. Fashionandyou ppl are big cheats. They have eaten up my money and their bloody customer care ppl are fooling me from the last 3 months. I ordered for a saree worth Rs. 1799 (order number: 4243386) for which I got refund in credits. Thereafter I ordered another product (order number: 110043752) which I received in a defective way. For this I got my refund of Rs. 899 after months of fights. Now my remaining credits of Rs. 900 aren’t in my account since 3 months. Customer care is expert in giving fake commitments. I feel cheated and request everyone not to risk their hard earned money with these bloody exploiters. I am taking this case to consumer court and seeking help to get rid of them.
