How to Get Rid of Hyperpigmentation on Forehead

The causes of hyperpigmentation on forehead:
One good reason is exposure of skin to the sun. Studies show that people who expose their skin more in the sun tend to get hyperpigmentation due to which the skin becomes blotchy and dark spots appear. Certain medication like antibiotics or non-steroidal drugs can also trigger hyperpigmentation. The major reason for hyperpigmentation on the forehead for women is Melasma. In Melasma, women can have pigmentation on forehead and cheeks when she’s pregnant. It is obviously due to change in hormones. Certain medications also trigger hyperpigmentation.

Following are some treatments you can opt for:

1. Ointment and creams/gels

Before getting any of these creams, it is advisable to discuss your condition with a dermatologist.
Hydroquinone: It is the most common form of medication used by people. It does give results but as said above, it should be used under the supervision of a skin care expert.

Retinol: It’s a derivative of Vitamin A, with the usage of which old cells shed off and new cells are formed. It is not recommended for breastfeeding and pregnant women.

Kojic acid: it is obtained from fungus and it is as effective as Hydroquinone. It is an antioxidant that inhibits the growth of melanin.

Niacinamide: It stops the transfer of melanosome to surrounding cells.

Other treatments:

1. Microdermabrasion

Now, this is a very popular method in which the upper layer of the skin is gently removed to get a clearer skin which is free from dark spots and patches. This method is easily available as a skin treatment in salons. It must be done by an expert.

2. Laser

People have mixed reviews of laser treatment. There are a number of people who swear by this method and the people who are against this method are in good number. Therefore, it’s best to weigh the pros and cons of it before going for the treatment.

3. Chemical peels

This should strictly be done by an expert as it can lead to scarring. You should definitely consult your doctor before getting this done.

Home remedies:

1. Aloe vera gel

Apply aloe vera gel to the affected area thrice a day. Do this for at least a month to see the difference. Aloe vera soothes the skin damaged by harmful UVA/UVB rays of the sun.

2. Potato juice

3. Lemon juice and honey

Lemon juice is rich in Vitamin C that helps to lighten skin tone. Squeeze half a lemon and mix the juice with few drops of honey. It will make your face soft and supple along with lightening the blotchy patches.

4. Cucumber juice

Apply cucumber juice to the affected area to get rid of the dark patches on the forehead.

Note: Above home remedies takes some time to show the results. Do not expect a miracle to happen overnight.

The best way to deal with it is to be patient. It is also required to make some basic day-to-day changes in lifestyle by eating good food and covering face when going out in the sun.
