Hyderabad Numaaish Exhibition – A Jewellery Lover’s Perspective

Hyderabad’s Numaaish Exhibition A Jewellery Lover's Perspective

Any Hyderabadi, worth his salt will know about the exhibition that takes place here every January; known simply as the “Numaaish,” it goes on till 15th-16th February. Its technical name is the “All India Industrial Exhibition.”

We grew up visiting it year after year and it keeps attracting crowds of all classes, all styles, and all cultures. People visit this Numaaish for many reasons; such as the beautiful Kashmiri suits or the Lucknowi Chikan Suits, Pakistani suits, handicrafts, embroidered/brocade/crochet/painted textiles/fabrics – sheets, cushion covers, table runners, table covers, mats, bags, etc.; beautiful carved wooden furniture, metal furniture, paintings from all over India on all kinds of things – from clothes to show pieces, footwear at throw-away prices.  These same sandals will then circulate the “uptown” malls for 4-5 times the price, arty bags, home gadgets and appliances, spices, dry fruits from all over the world, the adventure rides, western wear, Haleem, chaat n what not!!!

But I mainly visit the “Numaaish” or simply exhibition, as I like to call it; for the jewellery! There is no end to the variety offered and will cater to any pocket size. You can find anything from the most exotic, true, pure stones to the metallic imitation jewellery. The range available is mind-boggling! Buying real stones is not my cup of tea. My mother will handle that department! My forte is the “Kashmiri” jewellery! The term “Kashmiri” is used loosely here.  It’s not because all the jewellery is authentic and from Kashmir, but mainly due to the fact that guys who sell these are Kashmiri, but the jewellery could be worn by anyone from any state on any occasion on any style of dress.

Today, I want to share with you IMBBians my experience this year. Before you even read anymore, just go through the images in this article, you’ll know what inspired me to share this.

Now, let’s get started with an in-depth analysis. :specs:

This is a shot of a typical stall, each of these Kashmiri stalls not only sell jewellery but also some other show pieces & such knick-knacks.

Hyderabad’s Numaaish Exhibition A Jewellery Lover's Perspective

These are basically either metal or plastic or feathers and would range from Rs. 150 to Rs. 400. Yes, if you are good at haggling, you can get it at Rs. 150, but initially, they will tell you prices like Rs. 400. Honestly for those things, even Rs. 400 is not bad because their quality is super high! I also love how they stock these show pieces, they are all very amazing and would typically range from Rs. 500 to say about Rs. 2000.  The high prices are for the pieces encrusted with stones. If the shopkeeper says Rs. 2000, he will sell it at Rs. 1200 too! Told you, BARGAIN! I bought one of those show pieces for just Rs. 500 (pictured below), he initially said it was for Rs. 850.

Hyderabad's Numaish Exhibition

See those emerald stones necklace you can view on the left, in the image below?

Hyderabad Numaish Exhibition

You would get that for about Rs. 2000 each. They even have rubies & all other birth stones too. Now, let’s take a closer look at the jewellery & I shall give you the price range for them too:

The “kundan” pieces in the center and on the right side, you see? It can be yours for Rs. 700 to Rs. 1200. You can find real kundan jewellery here too. The other metallic or plastic pieces would be for Rs. 300- Rs. 700.

Hyderabad's Numaish Jewellery

As in the image above, you will also get typical artificial jewellery; set with stones or without; for Rs. 150-200. These same exact pieces will later be sold at the Centrals, Inorbits, etc., all for 3 times the original price!

These red rings were being sold for Rs. 250. I’m sure he would give it for much less, maybe Rs. 150-175, I’m just guessing here because I didn’t ask. My mother is the “Queen of Bargaining!” :mirror: She was occupied on a call when I was at this particular stall. She can bring down the prices to exactly what they should be, she has a lot of knowledge regarding jewellery, clothes, etc., and having her at places where they let you haggle is a guarantee to get you pretty much everything at 30% to 50% discount of what the shopkeepers originally say. Lucky me! 😉

The meenakari bangles, in the next image, were for Rs. 350. Aren’t they adorably cute :teddy: and beautiful! They have fun and modern designs, as opposed to just the traditional flowery ones. They do carry the traditional kind too.

Hyderabad Exhibition
This next beads and stones piece was for just Rs. 150!! :woot: originally, he had said Rs. 300, I love it! It was available in every possible color you can imagine! I bought a brownish-gold one that would go on many dresses. :jiggy1:

Check these little joys out! These huge ear hangings were just gorgeous and surprisingly not at all that heavy!

09 Image Hyderabad Numaish - A Jewellery Lover's Perspective

These were priced at Rs. 750-950. But I got 3 for Rs. 1500, that’s Rs. 500 each! It was a steal I feel! I do not know of a single respectable place where I would get these quality pieces for this price; if you do, then please share with me! The ones I bought are:

Hyderabad

Aren’t they pretty!!! I’m so in love with them!! :inlove: I love such chunky jewellery, but these are not just chunky but elegant too! To give you an idea of their sizes, this is how they look on me:

12 Image Hyderabad Numaish - A Jewellery Lover's Perspective

It doesn’t matter which stall you approach, they all pretty much carry similar stuff, not same always, but fairly similar. Every stall does have something new too.  Kashmiri stalls are a must-visit in Hyderabad’s Numaaish for any jewellery or fashion lover.

Seeing these images and reading about it is one thing, but actually being there is an experience unlike any other! There are 2500+ plus stalls of a variety of goodies and jewellery is just one part of it. This year, it’s the 72nd year for this Numaaish, so you can imagine what it must have to make people keep going back to it, year after year! I’ve been there twice this year and hat’s far too less for a true Hyderabadi like me!

The reason I am writing this article is because I want the IMBB community to benefit from the BARGAINs you can find at Exhibition, next time you visit Hyderabad! Ladies, trust me, you want to come to Hyderabad and strictly in January to February to avail of this opportunity! It’ll be worth even a plane travel ticket, considering that you can do a year’s worth of shopping and save LOADS of moolah! Just come and see this for yourself, you will not regret it. Those who are in Hyderabad and have still not been there, ladies COME ON look alive  :announce: and get shopping!!! You know you want to!

Hope you all enjoyed reading this!

Happy Shopping! :balle:
