Illamasqua Blush Lover Review, Swatch

ILLAMASQUA BLUSH IN LOVER

Yesterday, while I was going through some random snaps in my laptop I came across quite a few clicks of products I loved and wanted to review on IMBB but never really got to(all because I was lazy…too lazy!!!).Can you believe I had these snaps since the past 8 months-Well they had to wait so long but finally they are going to fulfil their destiny (Remember Phoebe and the Xmas trees from friends. 🙂 I’m having quite a few laughs these days watching all the episodes back to back)…Ah well I’m going to stop gushing and get right on with the review.

Colour: Illamasqua describes LOVER as a soft apricot, although to me it doesn’t look that soft but rather a bright peach shade. I was on the lookout for a matte peach blush and my search officially ended when I got my hands on Lover. The blush has no hints of brown or even pink –it is a true peach and you will notice that it immediately warms and brightens up your face. My skintone is somewhere between NC 25- 30 with warm undertones and it is amazing how this blush does not make me look sallow. Instead it just lends a very healthy glow that makes me look all fresh faced . I believe this will work well on both cool and warm undertones and also over a range of skintones.

Pigmentation: I bet most of you have already heard about this cult British brand and it goes without saying that all their products have great pigmentation and are great quality. This is one such product that doesn’t lose its vibrancy on application, it is very beautiful in the pan and it looks as pretty on the cheeks. But beware ladies, especially those on the lighter side, since the pigment manages to transfer so well on the skin it is easy to end up with clown cheeks.I would advise using a light hand with this one and then slowly build up the colour to the intensity you are comfortable with.

Texture: A true matte sans any shimmer and yes a bit powdery. Even then I find that it applies well on the skin and blends effortlessly without looking patchy at all.

Packaging: Well this is the only area that I feel the brand should improve upon. The packaging for one is quite bulky and it holds only 4.5 gms of product as opposed to a MAC blush which is much more compact and manages to hold 6 gms. Another grouse I have is that the case feels like cheap plastic and I seriously doubt its durability if you accidently drop it on a hard surface.

Price: GBP 18 (Approx 1550) for 4.5 gm

On my combination –sometimes oily sometimes dry sensitive confused skin it manages to wear for around 8 hours with negligible fading. Also the ingredients never irritated my skin or caused breakouts and the blush has a faint but pleasant smell.
Pros

First of all Illamasqua has managed to nail the colour here-a peach that could work for all complexions…what more could you ask for.

Crazy pigmentation in the pan and on the cheeks which makes it easy to go overboard but looking on the brighter side, a little goes a long way.

No blending issues at all, soft texture does not emphasise pores,so those with oily skin , don’t hesitate to pick this up.
Staying power again is good, I definitely feel it will wear for a longer time on normal to dry skin.

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Non availability in India-You can buy these online on the Illamasqua website but the shipping is not cheap.
  • They seriously need to change the packaging.

Overall, this unique shade is a must have for those with skintone NC35(or even NC 40) and lighter. The uniqueness of the colour, the pigmentation and the quality of the product more than makes up for the fact that it is pricey and falls in the same league as NARS blushes. Illamasqua has regular sales and offers-don’t forget to browse through their web exclusives also-where you will be able to pick up products on discount or with free shipping.
