Lime Crime Sasha Matte Velvetines Liquid Lipstick Review

Hey gorgeous gals,

I am still trying to de-stress myself, so here is another lipstick review! This one is also a liquid lipstick from Lime Crime. Let us find out what this one is all about.

Lime Crime Sasha Matte Velvetines Liquid Lipstick Review

Product Details:
The original liquid matte lipstick inspired by rose petals. The liquid matte that started it all. Conceptualized and developed by Lime Crime CEO Doe Deere, Velvetines draw inspiration from her favorite flower – a red, red rose. Doe used to cut out rose petals and paste them onto her lips as a child. Richly pigmented, French vanilla-infused formula glides on as a liquid and dries down to a luxurious, velvety matte finish that lasts for hours and hours. Touch-proof, kiss-proof and utterly addictive! Long lasting matte liquid lipstick in an earthy red hue.

What it does: Makes your lips feel luxurious and velvety, like a rose. Lasts all day with minimal touch-ups, even through meals.

What it won’t do: Bleed or transfer. Dry out properly moisturized lips. Ruin the perfect kiss.

US $20

Lime Crime Sasha Matte Velvetines Liquid Lipstick shade name

I have discussed this in my previous reviews, but I still mention this each time for readers who might be reading a particular review in isolation. In terms of price point, Lime Crime seems to be at par with other brands at the same level – KVD, MAC, Huda Beauty, Too Faced, Stila, etc. However, if you consider the amount of product you get, Lime Crime is probably one of the most expensive liquid lipsticks in its league.

For details:

Huda Beauty liquid Matte – $20 – 5ml
Kat Von D Everlasting – $20 – 6.6ml
Lime Crime Velvetines – $20 – 2.6 gm.

My Experience with Lime Crime Sasha Matte Velvetines Liquid Lipstick:

Packaging:: The Lime Crime lipstick comes packaged in the their trademark red boxes with roses on it – the owner’s favourite flower. The box has a strip on it which has the shade name and ingredients mentioned on it and is colour coordinated to the shade of the lipstick. Makes it easy to locate if you have more than one and if you store them in the box itself. The liquid lipstick tube itself has a frosted transparent tube with a cap carrying the same pattern as the box – eye-catching and a tad bit girlie.

The applicator is standard doe-foot applicator. Since the size of the tube is small, the length of the wand is also small. This allows you for more precise application. I am able to get good decent clean lines with the wand, I have never needed to use a separate brush for it – even though the Company has advised regarding the use of a brush, if required.

Color:  “Sasha” is described as “toasted rose.” It is an effortless MLBB shade, a dirty rosy pink, something which is extremely easy to carry off by most skin tones and is perfect for a normal day. You can wear it to work or when you are stepping out. This is the kind of shade you keep in your bag for emergencies because it can go with almost any look. It will just add a hint of color to your face while being totally unobtrusive. If you have heavy eye makeup, this will balance the same out. It is a nice neutral shade without being too n*de or making you look sallow.

Texture: The texture of the lipstick is consistent with the line – quite liquidy and dries fairly quickly. It has excellent pigmentation and gives full coverage for the entire lip in one dip. You don’t need to go over and over again on your lips. With these liquid lipsticks, less is more – the more product you pile up on your lips, the more the chances of it bunching up or transferring.

The lipstick dries down fairly quickly. Once set, it’s fairly budge-proof. It is not very drying but it’s not hydrating either. If you have any flakes on your lips – it will cling to those patches. However, on its own, it won’t really create flakes or make your lips look prunish. The brand does suggest hydrating the lips before application.

Pigmentation: Pigmentation is very good. The liquid lipstick goes on smoothly and settles into a matte finish. Covers any lip pigmentation very well. The pigment goes on evenly – it doesn’t bunch up or sink into the crevices.

Lasting Power:  This being a lighter shade, has a little lesser wear time. I get about 6 hours or so. Again, a lot will depend on what you eat/drink in the interim and the oil content of the same. Oil starts breaking down the formula. This being a light shade – when it starts wearing off, it isn’t too evident. However, even when it starts disappearing from the inner rim of the lips, it appears fairly natural and there is no clumping, etc.

Fragrance: There is a distinct sweet fragrance…like that of vanilla cup cakes. It could definitely be an issue for someone who has a sensitive nose. I’m not too fond of it – but find it tolerable because it dissipates fairly quickly.

Pros of Lime Crime Sasha Matte Velvetines Liquid Lipstick:

  1. A very easy-to-wear rosy neutral shade – more like an MLBB shade.

Cons of Lime Crime Sasha Matte Velvetines Liquid Lipstick:

  • Will accentuate dry patches, if they already exist.
  • Fragrance could be an issue for some.
  • The quantity is almost half/less than half of other brands in the market, in the same price range.

IMBB Rating:
A 4/5 product.

Is it a must-have shade? Maybe not. This is the kind of effortless MLBB shade which you will easily find in almost any line that you try. However, if this is the kind of shade you are drawn to, or are on the lookout for a light neutral shade without it being totally n*de – look no further.
