In simple word, just hair cream to be used before hot tools like straightening, giving you smoother hair and also providing a heat defence layer to hair.  I got this one too in September last year from Boots, UK, and was still trying out my hands on it.  Having used it a lot of times before hair straightening, now I can safely write the review.

A Few Points:
My hair type is thick, dry, frizzy, wavy to curly, hard to straighten, always looks more like beach waves, prone to being curly, and exposed to Chennai’s humidity and brackish water day-in-day-out.  This product would work much better for people with finer hair, no humidity and lesser prone to being wavy and curly.

To be honest, my first experience with it had been rather disappointing.  I picked up this cream thinking it would be a welcome change from the serums and other sprays I have used.  I also got some John Frieda and Tresemme stuff from Boots as well and picked this one up as it was lined up with the likes of Charles Worthignton, John Frieda, Tresemme and looked like making nice claims for usage with hot tools.

I love straight hair for the simple reason that mine are not and my experience with hair straightening and irons goes back in history now. Needless to say, when I say hot tool and hair straightening for hair type like mine, brittle, rough hair come along with the saga, and hence I pick up such products.

When I used it first, say a coin-sized amount on 80% dry hair and then blow dried and went ahead and straightened the hair, I could not see any difference whatsoever in the quality of straightening. I thought may be I am missing the point and the aim is to reduce frizz, soften hair, heat defence and then perhaps some amount of better results in straightening hair.

All I could see was hair softening and it did not help straightening in any other way.  I am sure it acted as a barrier too for heat, but I was not impressed for the results delivered for my hair type, which is dry, wavy to curly, exposed to humidity and brackish water.

So, all I would say is that I do not recommend this product to anyone with my hair type, perhaps you would like to try it if you have finer hair, not so wavy and not exposed to humidity. For hair like mine, more amount would make it greasy and less would not be as effective.

Though it did control frizz as well to a limit, that should not make me pick up this product again. For me, it softens and controls frizz like any other hair cream I would have, but as far I could see, it would give better results for finer hair if used in controlled amounts 😀

The product is also scented, floral, citrusy kind and feels really light definitely and not at all greasy when I use one-rupee coin-sized amount, maybe I need to use more to get more from this :struggle:.  Nevertheless, if you are still not convinced, you might want to pick this up if you have better hair than mine.

Last Word on L’Oreal Paris Studio Line Silk & Gloss Hot Straight Cream:
Not meant for thicker or wavy hair I believe. It did not work for me, although, finer and not-so-wavy hair may want to give it a try, for me, it just did not go beyond softening hair.

  1. a person like me would pick up such products purely coz of the attractive name!   thanks for the warning though…my hair type is quite similar to yours :nono:

  2. I have exactly the same kinda hair that you have… except that I’m in Bangalore and am spared of humidity… I have to have to straighten my hair every single day… you should try schwarzkopf osis flatliner iron spray… its awesome… trust me… makes my hair sit down, and keeps it straight the next day as well… just spray it on the section you wanna straighten, run the straightner over it, there will be steam, but just see how easy and nice it all becomes 🙂

  3. Neha….I am in search for a good heat defence spray/cream, but not getting any online, 🙁 but I can definitely rule this out. You had reviewed that tressme one na, I want that so badly now :waaa: :waaa: :waaa:
