My Take on MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette:

As always, talking about the packaging first – it’s a compact and sturdy palette with two corrector shades and four concealer shades.  There’s no mirror provided and that’s not an issue for me at all. I have loads of makeup stuff that come with mirrors 😛 It’s a travel-friendly compact and you can slip it into your handbag without worrying about the palette creating a mess in your bag.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

There are four variants of this palette available, covering a vast range of skin tones – Light, Medium, Medium Deep, and Dark.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

Breaking down the concealer shades in each palette for you guys:

Light:  NC15, NC20, NW10, NW20, Pale Pink, Pale Yellow.
Medium:  NC30, NW25, NC35, NW35, Mid Yellow, Mid Peach.
Medium Deep:  NC40, NC42, NW40, NW43, Rich Yellow, Burnt Coral.
Deep Dark:  NC45, NC50, NW45, NW55, Ochre, Pure Orange.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

I have picked the variant “Medium Deep” and it works for me perfectly.  I believe “Medium” and “Medium Deep” would cover most of the Indian skin tones.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

Talking about the texture, the two correctors and the four concealers in this pro palette have a nice thick and creamy consistency. These are easily blendable and the coverage is buildable.  If you work with these concealers and correctors properly, they would give you medium to full coverage without looking cakey on your skin (“blend well” should be your mantra!) The feel is not lightweight; however, it’s not something that would feel heavy either.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

The staying power is also commendable because as promised, they stay on the skin for up to 8 hours provided you have used a good primer beneath and an equally good setting powder on top. And one thing I would like to emphasize, before I forget, using liquid foundation will do a whole lot of good.  So, if you are thinking about using your powder or mineral foundation with this palette, save it for some other time 🙂

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

Another important point before going further into the review – if you want to work with the correctors and concealers in this palette, you gotta invest in good quality makeup and blending brushes.  Using your fingertips would leave a patchy finish because it wouldn’t blend the correctors or concealers properly.

If you are looking at an “all MAC kit” to use along with this palette, here’s what you should pick up – MAC 217 Blending Brush, MAC 195 Concealer Brush, MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation, MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

I also feel pale and lighter skin tones can use this palette to contour and highlight their faces.  Contouring helps in creating shadows to define and shape your face the way you want. For contouring the nose, forehead, and jaw, you can use the darkest shade of concealer from the palette.  In my “Medium Deep” palette, it’s NW43.  However, deeper skin tones than NW 45 would not be able to use it as a contour shade.  For highlighting, you can use the yellow corrector.

Coming to how you can work your way around this palette, I have taken a long time to figure out how exactly I could extract the best out of this palette.  After a bit of trial and error, here’s what works for me:

For concealing under eye circles:

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

Apply eye cream to moisturize your eye area so as to clear the dry patches so that once your makeup is layered, it wouldn’t crack from beneath due to the dryness.  Next, apply a good primer to prevent creasing, prolong the staying power, and also to prevent the concealer from moving around. Apply orange concealer because orange cancels out dark under eye circles, blue or grey hints.  It helps your eyes look bright and fresh throughout the day. Orange corrector is gonna act as a base for the concealer, so if the concealer on the top fades, your dark circles wouldn’t peep from below, only the corrector would be visible, not the dark circles.  Now, apply your favorite foundation, do not rub in vigorously, just dab it around using a blending brush.  Now, pick up the darkest concealer in the palette.  I use NW43 from the same palette (I recommend liquid or cream concealer) for all day coverage.  Use a dabbing and tapping motion to apply.  Don’t blend vigorously.  Set it with finishing powder/setting/translucent powder to prevent the concealer from creasing.  This technique would cover dark circles.

Making it easy for you to understand – you can also go this way – for covering under eye circles: primer-> foundation -> corrector -> concealer -> setting powder.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

To cover blemishes and acne marks on your face:  Use a combination of the orange corrector and mix and match the concealer shades. The correct method would be to apply the corrector first, then the foundation.  You can then use the darkest concealer to spot conceal.  I haven’t had much success in concealing the mole on my nose though.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

To elaborate it further – I first use a good primer (Clinique Universal Superprimer would be my pick).  I then spot correct acne marks and blemishes with the orange corrector using the Real Techniques Detailer Brush. I use dabbing and patting motion with the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to blend the corrector out.  Next, I use the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush to apply and blend in Clinique Even Better Liquid Foundation.  Next, I use a combination of concealers to spot conceal acne scars and blemishes.  The last step is to set everything with a good setting powder, I use Clinique Superbalanced Powder and that’s it! Everything’s concealed and I get an even toned finish.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

Now, you would be wondering about the yellow corrector – I do not need it to conceal under eye circles.  Orange corrector does that for me.  I use it to highlight certain areas on my face.  For example, you can use it right under where you have used your under eye concealer in an inverted triangle shape and blend in.  Then, you can follow with your foundation on top and set everything with a powder.  You can also use this corrector between the brows, on the bridge of your nose, around your mouth, and chin area to lighten the skin.  The key is to blend well and there would be no harsh lines and the finish would be smooth.  If you use the yellow corrector alone plus the foundation, you can use it on forehead, chin, cupid’s bow, etc to lighten and highlight those areas.  As they have mentioned in the claims, you can use the colors in this palette to mix and match to get a flawless finish.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

Keep in mind that when you are using the orange corrector, do not use it on the entire face like you would with the foundation, it should be used to spot correct, like on areas where you have the marks and blemishes, and not the entire face. You would look like an alien from an orange planet, it looks that bad! Setting your makeup is a key step, don’t skip it!  Setting with a powder prevents the concealer from creasing and does not allow it to slip or slide around.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

Delving a little more into color correctors – Color correctors counteract discolorations and cancel out various skin imperfections. Color correctors would help you in achieving an even-toned base with a flawless finish.  With the help of correctors, you can cover up problem spots, even out imperfections, and also accentuate your best features. Use correctors in combination with concealers to create the ideal tone for your skin. Here are some correctors and their respective functions:

Green – neutralizes redness. Green correctors get rid of redness on your face, ideal to cover acne rosacea.
Orange – Great to hide dark under eye circles, blemishes, dark spots.
Lavender – counteracts sallow, dull complexions and brightens up the skin tone.
Caramel – combats ashiness in medium to dark skin tones.
Blue – adds radiance to fair skin.
Yellow – lightens dark complexions. Also conceals purple, blue veins. Evens out skin tone. Can also act as an eyeshadow base.
Pink/Salmon – brightens the complexion/counteracts sallow undertones. Also great to brighten under eye skin tone.

If you have medium to severe dark circles, you can use a combination of orange, yellow, and warm-toned concealers to get the right effect.

Recently, I had undergone a laser hair removal treatment session and had quite a few burn marks on my face, which I was able to conceal to an extent using this palette (though not completely).  Still, I would give this palette full marks for coming to my rescue.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

I cannot stress enough on the fact that you indeed need to get good quality blending/makeup brushes along with this palette to see maximum results, otherwise, you would not feel this palette is worth the price.  My pick would be Real Techniques, Zoeva, and Sigma, MAC brushes.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

Yes, here’s something that every girl with sensitive/acne-prone skin would like to know – whether it would break out sensitive skin type. No, it wouldn’t and I can tell you that because I have super sensitive and acne-prone skin that’s easily prone to breakouts, more so if I use bad products.  I have tested it out for one whole night for review sake, and it didn’t clog my pores even though the texture is quite creamy and thick.

MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette

You have to take it off using a waterproof makeup remover at night.  I have tried taking it off using the MAC Mineralize Charged Water Cleanser and that doesn’t work.

I hope I have covered all the points about this palette 🙂 Now, summing up the pros and cons:

Pros of MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette:

  • Creamy, blendabable, buildable texture and consistency.
  • Does not look messy or patchy on the face if you blend well.
  • Conceals under eye circles completely.
  • Conceals acne marks and blemishes.
  • Non-acnegenic formula.
  • Two correctors + four concealers in a single palette.
  • All the colors are intensely pigmented.
  • You can use the deeper shade concealer for contouring.
  • Totally worth the price.

Cons of MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette:

  • Lavender, green, pink correctors are missing.
  • If you don’t blend everything well, it’s gonna look patchy.
  • Fingertips won’t work, you need good makeup brushes and sponges to work with this palette.

Would I Repurchase MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette?

Yes! *full of glee*

Would I Recommend MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette?

Yes though I would ask you to pick up good blending brushes, good setting powder, good makeup sponges just before you pick the palette 😛

IMBB Rating:
4.8/5

Before I end this review, I want to tell you about the MAC Waterproof Nourishing Foundation fiasco – I had picked it along with the pro concealer palette. The SA had matched me to NW45 and I was told that I was billed for that particular shade, but when I pulled out to use the foundation, I realized it was wayyyyyyyyyyy too dark for my skin tone. I checked the packaging and was shocked to see that they had handed me NC50!!! I am not even NC, I am NW and that too 45.  See the comparison with my other foundations, how on earth can I wear it on my face!

    1. Deepa, it’s all about blending and dabbing in well 🙂 However, my skin needs concealers, can;t do without them 🙂 I have spoken to the ppl at MAC and informed them about the goof up, I will go to MAC this week and get it replaced 🙂

  3. NC 50? That’s hell too dark! It make anyone look like a chocolate. Great detailed review! I have same type of skin like yours so products that work for you may work for me too 🙂

  4. Hey! Great review Jomol!

If u have receive wrong shade, pls return the product. They won’t take it back easily. But if it’s their mistake – fight it out!

      1. KK, completely, I am gonna return it to them, it’s their mistake and I would carry along all my clinique foundations to show them what’s the difference! I am waiting for their store manager to return from abroad, once she comes back, I am gonna go to the store and get it replaced 🙂

  5. Wowww jomol! Such a thorough review! U’ve put in a lot of effort gurl. Thank you so much for this detailed review.

That wrong foundation shade…my god..so careless of them. Once they handed me a wrong concealer shade. I dint notice untill i came back from delhi to my town.

You have burn marks from laser hair removal? Did u try alma lasers? I had my first session around 10 days back (for full face and body) and it was absolutely painless and no burns at all. Do ask your dermatologist about alma soprano range of lasers.

    1. Thank you so much Jyoti 🙂 it took me the whole of evening to put together the review 🙂 Did they replace the concealer for you?

Yes, I have burn marks, actually the dermatologist had increased the dose and I can totally see the effect after just two sittings. The hair growth has drastically reduced. Around two years ago, I had went to a commercial chain laser removal clinic and got a few sittings and I can totally see the difference of going to a dermatologist – two sittings and there’s hardly any hair growth. I would definitely ask my doc about alma soprano lasers, thank so much for the info Jyoti. If you don’t mind, can you tell me how much it costs for the entire body 🙂

      1. Hi jomol, i couldnt get the concealer changed, coz i came back to jodhpur 🙁

fee for entire face and body alma soprano is 25 thousand for one sitting. It is very reasonable as compared to bigger cities. I have not taken any package. In one sitting, i can see some difference. The growth is slowed down and thinned.

  6. Such a detailed review. Absolutely fantastic. Tempted me enough but have to be sensible also :)..I love MAC as a brand and I swear by it..the loose powder, the foundation and prolong wear concealer are just fabulous. Hope to try this sometime.. The orange corrector is extremely tempting. NYX stopped it I think unless any of you know where to buy it from..

    1. Aru, they have good correctors in LA girl, green, orange, and everything in between. Lemme scout out some orange correctors for you. Bobbi Brown has one too 🙂 Aru, your comment has made me soooper happy 🙂

  7. Now do I salute you or bow down? That is an amazing review and i can totally see how much efforts you have put it 🙂 it is totally super and i actually read everything.. that conceals acne marks and dark circles.. such a wonderful palette.. mein toh lungi 🙂 🙂

      1. yes pakkkaaaa… sab le lungi all together… so that no can see my bad marks and dark circles 😉 hehehe totally glad to make your day :-*

          1. I have yaa…. and skin tone is fair.. toh dark circles kuch zyada hi noticeable 🙁
using cucumber juice cotton rounds everyday now 🙂

  8. What an awesome review Jomol. You are going to make everyone invest in this palette and not to forget the brushes. I also have ‘laser that didn’t work’ marks. 🙁
