Happy Days. Such a carefree, cheerful name for a lip product, don’t you think? I like it, and brought it along during a brief, relaxing getaway with my family.  I packed some other lip stuff, but I found myself using mostly this lip pencil.  NARs Happy Days for Ida’s happy days 😛

This was my first time to try the NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil formula.  I found it interesting. It’s a solid pencil that from NARS description is supposed to give a glossy finish. Like a lip gloss in solid form, kinda? Is what I thought.

My Experience with NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil – Happy Days:

It gives the lips a shiny finish, instead of a wet, or watery, or reflective type of glossiness. Compared to a traditional lip gloss’s finish, this is more low-shine and subtle.  The color of Happy Days is pinkish coral with gold shimmer. I find it flattering on my NC 30-35, warm skin tone and I think it would suit a wide range of complexions.  It looks natural even with the shimmer and the shade is quite spring-y, summery. The finish of it, as I’d mentioned, is shiny, and the shimmer also contributes to that. It makes the lips look hydrated and a touch plumper.

This one is more color-accurate.  Happy Days is sheer so the natural color of the lips peeks through it. This is the type of lip product that for me can be swiped on without a mirror, since the color never gets too bold and it’s not obvious if it’s not applied precisely. Lipsticks like these are a must-have for me, being a mom to an infant and not having a lot of time to do my makeup (I do lips last and usually in the car).

It has a slightly thick, sticky feel to it, but I find it tolerable, and personally, I don’t avoid lip colors with sticky or tacky textures. I’m fine with them because they usually last longer. I just don’t use them when I’m in the mood for something with a lighter feel.

This stays on my lips for 3-4 hours if I don’t eat during that time. After a meal with this on my lips, the color, and even the shine, is still visible afterwards, though of course some of it has faded also. I think that’s pretty good for a sheer, shiny lip product.

Pros of NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil – Happy Days:

• So easy to use and apply.
• Flattering color that looks natural on the lips.
• The shimmer isn’t obnoxious.
• The finish helps make the lips look softer, a bit plumper.
• Has good staying power for something sheer and shiny.
• Doesn’t make any dryness on my lips so much more obvious.
• Doesn’t dry up my lips (doesn’t moisturize them either, though).
• No discernible taste.
• Has a light scent.

Cons of NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil – Happy Days:

• Slightly sticky feel.
• The product wastage that happens when the pencil is sharpened.
• Pricey.

Would I Repurchase NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil – Happy Days?

It’s a lovely color that looks natural on the lips. It’s cheerful and simple, reflective of its name. This lip pencil is also very easy to use, perfect for when you’re on vacation and don’t want to exert much effort on your makeup but still want to look nice. Definitely worth a try if you like no-fuss lip products that make your lips look pretty.
