IMBB Sponsored Product Review
Today I am going to share my experience with Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir. Thanks to Rati, Sanjeev Ji and the lovely IMBB team for an opportunity to pick up a product from the list. The reason I picked this one from the list is because it is a glycolic acid based exfoliating moisturizer and such products work wonders on my oily skin.
Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir works each night to help gently resurface skin while you sleep for tighter, smoother skin when you wake – without the risk of harsh side effects associated with a professional chemical peel. When applied each night, the non-greasy, fast-absorbing formula with glycolic acid works over a normal sleep cycle to give you uninterrupted exfoliation while antioxidants and moisturizers continuously provide soothing hydration to tighten skin’s surface.
Oil–Free. Fragrance–Free. Dermatologist Tested.
Rs. 4130 for 50 ml.
My Experience with Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir:
My skin type is extremely oily during summers and combination during winters, and I have slightly sensitive skin. I do not suffer much from acne and do not have any acne scars, but I have slight redness and large pores on the inner cheeks, and blackheads on nose. My skin gets clogged very easily.
It comes in a black and red box packaging; the box is quite big compared to the bottle inside. All the details, instructions, ingredients everything is well explained on the box itself. Olay regenerist has an entire line of skin care; this particular product belongs to the second step that is moisturisation. The bottle inside is very small and handy slightly bigger than my palm, and comes in a semi transparent red tinted bottle with a grey pump, which runs on twist and lock system. The pump is very functional and can be controlled easily to dispense the right amount of product every time. In all the packaging is simple and completely travel friendly.
The serum inside is transparent and looks like water; it has very fine gold flecks, which are noticeable when seen very closely. The consistency is very light liquidy and gel like, slightly on the sticky side. It is absolutely oil and fragrance free. One thing to notice is there is absolutely no mention of what percentage of glycolic acid does it contain as it is the main ingredient, as often glycolic acid shows different results when used in different percentages. But the overall ingredients list is very impressive as it contains many anti oxidants. It spreads very easily and a little goes a very long way. This serum does not have to be massaged into skin; it only has to be spread or layered and gets absorbed on its own as per the directions. For the first few days I was using one full pump, and I always had some amount left on my fingers even after application, also my skin felt very sticky to touch and looked quite shiny, then I started using slightly less than one pump, still it looked and felt the same. Finally I started using just half a pump, that is less than shown in the picture and it worked great. There was still slight stickiness but it all vanished within five minutes of application. It takes few minutes to get absorbed completely into skin. It makes my skin look firm instantly upon application.
There was no stinging or irritation at all, but then I have used glycolic acid based products before as well. So if you are using it for the first time, then you might experience it. I have been using it from the past 19 days to be precise and during this time my skin is in combination state and I have few dry patches on face, for which I was using a moisturizing cream at night before this. But I was amazed to see, that in spite of being such a light weight serum it instantly hydrated my skin and moisturized the dry patches completely. My T zone especially around the nose was still oily in the morning. You do not need to use an additional moisturizer with it, this serum covers everything. I also wanted my mom to use it as she is in her 50’s, but she has dry skin and glycolic acid based products can be drying especially for dry skin. I feel this serum is best suited for normal to oily skin, as it is not very moisturizing and emollient enough for dry skin to be used alone.
When I started using it there was not much change in my skins texture or anything, but it felt very moisturized and hydrated in the morning as well. Do not expect results overnight, it takes time to work as it is very mild. I started seeing some positive changes only after using for 10 days every single night; you need to be very consistent with this one. But that can also be as my skin is used to glycolic acid based products, if you are using it for the first time then you can notice effects much quickly. It says the effects are equivalent to that of professional chemical peel; I am not sure about that I have never undergone that. After using it regularly, my skin looks much brighter and feels very smooth and soft, and my large pores look much more refined. there is still no difference on slight redness and blackheads but I guess the effects are getting better with time. It did not cause any acne or anything, and it definitely works on clogged pores as my skin look and feels much more clear.
The bottle has to be stored away from sunlight as it contains AHAs, and also using a sunscreen in the morning is must when using this product or else skin can be prone to photosensitivity. This product retails for much less in the states, and therefore is quite worth the money as I guess one bottle should last at least 3 months when used every single night, as very little quantity is required.
Pros of Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir:
• Simple yet very functional packaging
• Has a pump dispenser, which dispenses required amount so there is no product wastage.
• Very little quantity , only half pump is required for each use and therefore one bottle will last very long
• Completely fragrance and oil free
• No need to use any additional moisturizer, it moisturizes dry patches as well
• Very light weight
• Contains some great anti oxidants
• Does not cause any stinging or irritation
• After regular use skin looks bright and feels very soft and smooth
• Slightly reduces pore size with regular use.
• Did not clog pores or cause any breakouts.
Cons of Olay Regenerist Night Resurfacing Elixir:
• Do not expect prominent results overnights, as it takes time and consistent usage
• No mention of glycolic acid percentage
• Quite expensive in India
• Not easily available in India
• It feels slightly sticky initially, especially if used more quantity then required.
• It takes few minutes to get absorbed completely
• Not very suitable for dry skin to be used alone
• When using this serum at night a sunscreen in the morning cannot be skipped at any cost.
Of course, although the results are slow it absolutely works and my skin does not look dull anymore, it looks bright and feels so smooth and considering that such little quantity is required for each use it will last for quite long. Also it is very difficult to find glycolic acid based moisturizers in India.
