Revlon Outrageous Color Protection Conditioner Review

Revlon Outrageous Color Protection Conditioner Review

I have never used a hair care product from Revlon before and the reviews of the Flex shampoo didn’t help either, but when I saw the “Outrageous” range, I liked the look of it and decided to try it out even though my hair isn’t colored :-).  The Revlon Outrageous Color Protection range is supposed to provide “intensive protection to minimize hair damage” for colored hair.

My Experience with Revlon Outrageous Color Protection Conditioner:

The conditioner packaging is exactly like that of the shampoo, only white. Details and diagrams can be found on the back of the bottle. The bottle has a flat bottom, but being tall, it wouldn’t be very stable, especially when there’s only a little left. Also, the large size makes it unwieldy for travelling, although the flip cap appears leak proof. The conditioner itself is a pearly color and is thick and creamy. Directions of use are to apply the conditioner after shampooing, along the hair length to the tip. Leave for 2 minutes and rinse thoroughly, and as always, they recommend using the Revlon Outrageous Color Protection Shampoo.

The product is creamy and easy to apply. I left it on for a couple of minutes and rinsed it off; it washed out well enough. There isn’t exactly a fragrance to speak of, a very mild scent, similar to the shampoo.

After air drying, hair seems a little shinier, although my ends still looked dehydrated. However, the shininess is restricted to appearance, on touching, hair feels dry and not at all like it has been conditioned. My hair was quite difficult to detangle, and I had to use loads of serum to run my brush through my hair.

I assumed a color protect conditioner would be extremely gentle on hair and would leave it feeling super soft, but my untreated, uncolored hair was so dry, I wonder how chemically treated hair will feel. In one word, disappointing!

Another thing that bothers me about this conditioner is the list of chemicals (that also includes parabens) and judging by the performance of the product, these chemicals don’t seem to serve any particular purpose. For instance, the ingredient list shows Mica. Mica is a mineral that is used in cosmetic products to give it that pearlescent, shiny look. However, this shine doesn’t really translate into shine for your hair or skin, it just makes the product more attractive. At a time when we are trying our best to avoid unnecessary chemicals in our beauty care, it is annoying to see companies adding extra stuff simply to make the product look good.

Revlon Outrageous Color Protection Conditioner 5

My hair is thin and curly with a tendency to get tangled easily and to frizz up (I know, my hair is terrible). It has never been colored or chemically permed/straightened. I used this along with the Revlon Outrageous Color Protection Shampoo, which has already been reviewed on IMBB.

Pros of Revlon Outrageous Color Protection Conditioner:

  • Reasonably priced.
  • Attractive bottle.
  • Detailed information on the bottle.
  • Easy to apply, washes out well.
  • Hair appears a little shinier on drying.

Cons of Revlon Outrageous Color Protection Conditioner:

  • Not abundantly available; seen only in some stores.
  • Contains parabens.
  • Too many chemicals, including unnecessary ones like mica.
  • Large bottle unwieldy, not for travelling.
  • Leaves hair dry and looking dehydrated.
  • Difficult to detangle hair without lots of serum.
  • Hair doesn’t feel soft to touch.

IMBB Rating:

1 /5.

Would I Recommend/Repurchase Revlon Outrageous Color Protection Conditioner?

Nope. Even if I was okay with the chemicals, there are many other chemical laden conditioners out there which do a much better job. With all the awareness on harmful stuff in personal care products, I think I will skip this.
