Step-by-Step Hair Tutorial – Cute Messy Upside Down Normal Braid Bun

Hello, beauties!

We all love a casual messy bun and it is my favorite hairstyle, which is super easy to do and perfect for a lazy day. Usually, I get late and need to do a quick hairstyle. I also don’t prefer to wash my hair regularly, so a top bun works great on a bad hair day when I can’t keep my hair open. A messy bun looks so nice with all the outfits. It goes with western and ethnic looks, and here, I made it cuter by creating a braid on the back and added a bow as well. Actually, most people prefer French braid, which is a little complicated but this normal braid is perfect for beginners like me. This is a super pretty hairstyle, that totally enhances a casual look. Now, let’s get into the step-by-step tutorial.

Step 1:

First, lightly comb your hair but don’t make it too flat, and if you haven’t washed your hair, then you can use dry shampoo to give it a nice texture and volume. Actually, messy bun looks best when you have a little grip on your hair. Even if you have clean hair, you still can use dry shampoo to get that grip.

Step 2:

Then, divide a small section of hair from the back and clip up the rest of the part.

Step 3:

After that, divide that back section into three parts and do a regular braid. Now, you can create French braid, but honestly, I am not so comfortable with French braid on the back, so I opt for a regular braid. If you are comfortable, then you can do that too.

Step 4:

As I have long hair, I continue the braid to the 1/3rd of my hair, and then, secure the section with a black elastic. I also tug the edges to make the braid look fuller.

Step 5:

Now, open the tied section of the hair and pull up all the hair with the braid as well to the top of your head.

Step 6:

Next, take a black rubber band to create a loose ponytail with a single wrap of the band.

Step 7:

Then, with a second wrap, take the rest of the hair and wrap it from the half section, just like you fold your hair from the half section.

Step 8:

After that, casually gather all the hair and create a loop of that, and then, wrap the remaining elastic over the loop to secure them into a loose knot.

Step 9:

Then, secure it perfectly with some bobby pins and casually clip up all the hair. Once you feel your bun is fully secure, then lightly tug the sections of hair to make it a little messy.

Step 10:

To set everything well, you can also spray some fixing spray, and here, I added a small cute bow just below the bun. It makes the entire look super pretty.

Step 11:

Here, I slightly tug some small hair from the front to make it look a little messy.

Here is my final look and you can see that how fluffy and messy it actually looks. I love this casual hairstyle, which instantly gives a voluminous look on a bad hair day. If you have thin hair, you can also backcomb your hair to get volume. It is quite simple and a perfect daily look. Hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
