Tips & Toes Gel Eyeliner Review

Tips & Toes Gel Eyeliner Review

The name Tips and Toes evokes childhood memories -I think I was in class 3 or so when I used to see nail polish and nail polish remover from this brand. And then this brand simply slipped into oblivion and there was absolutely no trace of its products for about 10 years. So naturally when I first saw a Tips and Toes counter in Big Bazaar..that too fully decked up with stuff and a smiling SA, I was like “ha??? What’s this!!! :O”. However I decided to check out whether they have a website and reviews on their products before pouncing on them.

Tips & Toes Gel Eyeliner

Coming home I found a really nice website hosted by Tips and Toes (err …except its constant chhu pa pa paara jingle). It’s very informative –giving all product details and even the shades unlike many Indian makeup brands (elle 18 and streetwear) and even international ones (Chambor). And I was simply AMAZED that the “nail polish brand” has come up with sophisticated makeup stuff like Lip Duo, shimmer cream, gel liner, mineral compact and stick foundation. But I couldn’t find the price and reviews on the site or anywhere on the internet and had no idea what to expect when I hit the Tips n Toes counter the next time. However I zeroed in on buying the gel liner because I had a fascination for buying one for long.

Tips and Toes Dramatic Gel Eyeliner: Price Rs 210

Tips & Toes Gel Eyeliner

So I went to the store (The Tips n Toes site has a detailed list of stores where it is available). The SA showed me the tiny container and swatched it on the back of my hand. Let me tell you I was impressed on the first swatch. It was intense black-just the shade I want my liners to be. It felt very creamy on my hand and the SA said “wait for 5 minutes and you will find it hard to remove even with a cleanser (sounds scary though :D)” . And it was true-in 5 minutes the liner settled and even with very hard rubbing with fingers it refused to go. I was happy happy and straightway picked it up 🙂

What The Product is like: The website lists and describes the gel liner like this:

Tips & Toes Gel Eyeliner

The container is an uber-tiny pot (I kind of expected this-as saw the Maybelline Gel liner to come in a pint sized tub too) of plastic with a long tapered lid which holds the brush. This is nice as there is less chance of losing the special brush. The brush has a small handle and the bristles are short but good enough to pick up right amount of product and apply with control.

The gel liner is very creamy and glides on smoothly.. The staying power is good-without primer it lasted (in intensity) for good 4-5 hours and didn’t smudge even though I have oily eyelids. It didn’t itch or cause any irritation. I have not tried it on lower lashline though. It is much pigmented and truly black.

Tips & Toes Gel Eyeliner

So now to sum up:

Pros of Tips & Toes Gel Eyeliner

  • First of all a good and informative website (and very “lively”-sans the music).
  • Intense black color
  • Good staying power
  • Does not smudge after settling
  • Good applicator and nice way of packing it together with product
  • Although the quantity is tiny-yet one swipe with the brush is enough for an average thick line on one eyelid. It may last long unless it dries up.
  • Price is quite reasonable

Cons of Tips & Toes Gel Eyeliner : None till now, but I think for people who prefer a very thin line, the brush might be a bit difficult to control

Rating :-* :-* :-* :-*  + 0.5

I asked the SA-what to do if the liner dries up and she asked me to pour a few drops of rose water. Now I didn’t really like the suggestion-because I don’t think this liner is water based-this formula may ruin the remaining product. In case it dries I will try with minute drops of Almond oil. Whatssay?

Ohh I couldn’t help sharing my pics on a friend’s wedding 🙂 What‘s a better place to do it than here!!!

  1. This reminds me of aqua liners by one of the professional makeup brands (forgetting the name as of now)… I have used such water based liners once. I think you cna also use it as a base for a black smokey eye. And if the liner dries, just scrape if a little with a sharp thing such as a knife or edge of the spoon, take the product at the back of your hand and add a few drops of water. If the product is water based, it would work just fine.

It looks like a great value for money. I just don’t like using liquid liners and I am glad that companies are coming up with such concepts at reasonable prices.

    you looking cute. :-*

    1. Yaa…truly-even couple of days ago I was considering buying the Lakme insta liner-but after I got this I have postponed the plans 😀 😀 😀 This gel liner is way better than liquid liners I have used..it aint messy, easy to apply and smudge proof..now I need to check its performance during summer to see if it stays as long as it is doing now..and the brush is good too :hughright:

  2. Wow this looks interesting .. def gunna look for tips n toes …. but im pretty sure chambor isnt an international brand … ive been wracking my brains over who owns the brand and im still not entirely sure but needless to say chambor isnt from geneva 😛

You look super pretty in the pichchas !! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

    Ratidooo goomorning !!! 😀

    1. Thankieeessss..and ya this Chambor brand is a bit weird..its medium-end and some of the products get rave reviews..yet it doesnt maintain a website..God knows why.. 🙁 🙁

        1. eeekkk :suspense: :suspense: thank u ..(and ohh no!!! I did a boo boo in my post then 🙁 🙁 🙁 ) actually I am seeing this website for the first time now..it comes only if u type “chambor.com” ..typing only “Chambor”- this “baccarose” site comes up everytime..

  3. its not… its kind of like that same colorbar usa syndrome you know 😛 you should really look into it … ratidooo

It feels awesome so far to be back … I am having breakfast and my mommy is next to me feeding my doggie … *sigh* home sweet crazy home*

    1. he he he he ..mommy being biased. she should be feeding you not to the doggy. 😛 😛 😛

Thank god Lakme is India and they proudly call themselves Lakme India . I would have been very depressed to know that we don’t makeup company. 😛 😛

      1. Hahahahaha no ways …. doggie feeding is a crazy thing .. they literally force feed her with a baby spoon … mommy cooks for me .. more than happy … :d

Lakme eye pencils are made in russia and other stuff is made abroad… I find that so funny …. but even lotus and colorbar are indian naaa or at least lotus is … 😛

no but am damn serious ratidoo … you should look into the chambor thingy … I have no idea what there thing is … their write ups have a lot of clever word play … they claim to have “entered the Indian market” but they never say from where… there only website is in India … couldnbt even access one in AUS … n they do not sell there products in the US or Aus as fas as I can tell … we should ask Tatjana if she has seen this brand in europe naaa ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:)

oh and they now have a shringar collection …. no firangi brand would do something like that na … unless India was like their main market maybe … I dunno … but its like ppl pay for Chamboir because they think they are buying an intl brand … but if they arent then I think ppl need to know na … I mean I could be totally wrong but its still worth finding out …

        1. I checked . It just says ” Chambor entered into the Indian Market in the year 1993 with just few products & captured the Indian Consumers eye. ”

No mention from where…I dont think it is an international brand. They would have never come up with a shingaar collection. Its only Lakme or may be lotus we can expect such things from .

MAC is coming up with mickey contractor’s collection but I don’t see any major “indian ” inclination in the collection. It is just like any other mac collection. They would never come up with a singaar collection because they have to sell their products all across the world and not only in India.

I have no clue why colorbar calls itself colorbar usa because the brand is not available in US. No one has even heard about colorbar there.

          It’s quite strange..

          1. grrrr I know …. coz I think its imp to know where your makeup comes from naaa …
            😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐 😐

and yeah like the MAC collection is a Mickey Contractor collection not like some special Indian Bride collection kinda thingy …. I think Chambor started out (in 1993/4) when we were still in that “imported” maal chahiye state of mind n then were trying to cater to that ideology and then just left it alone ???

            I dunnoooo….

            1. I agree, may be because that time i guess Lakme was the leader in Indian market and they must have thought that an international brand at affordable price might be a big hit.

              “imported maal chahiye” :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

    1. no..currently there is only the black one..but I keep checking their website..coz they come up with new products now and then 🙂

  4. thats an answer to the maybelline gel liner i guess…bt not bad for 210..ppl who havent got maybelline yet can try dis…bt there shd be moreeee colors in gel liners na ….y all comin with black only :((
n u look so cutee in dos pics…peach creme looks fab on u !!
m loving my maybelline moisture extreme bronzy orange..its looks similar.. :)) :))

    1. aww..thankieesss 🙂 🙂 🙂 and ya..there is lack of color variations in gel eyeliners..in coastal scents website you can find gel liners of so many pretty colors..if I order something from there..I will get one of them 🙂

  5. hi anuradha, nice product. though i would like to know if the tip of the brush is always exposed to air both before and after use? it seems so from the picture.

    1. nono..the brush remains concealed inside the cap..when you r using the liner..you just pull it out..and either use it by itself or (thats how I do it) attach it to the cap .. and ya..this is one of my best buys in 2010 🙂 🙂

    1. thankuu…and I would suggest everyone to give it a shot..only because its so true black and easy to apply 🙂 🙂 🙂 ( for eye makeup lovers this cud be their favorite) :beauty:

    1. thankuuuu..the pot is small but cute..what I like is that you can never lose the brush..which if came alone had quite a chance of it (for super messy people like me :D)

  6. thankss..actually I adore their webpage a lot..very colorful (nooo the music is BAAD 😀 ) and it carries all info as well..so I added these pics from there to add some color to my article 😀

  7. i have seen the tips & toes website long ago, it is indeed a nice website. bt i alwayz mute my laptop while checking the site, obviously to avoid the music. :violinbash: but i think products are a bit pricey than their quality. maybelline is way cheaper and better brand than t&t.

u r very pretty and looking cute in the pics. ur salwar is very b’ful too. :jiggy1: :haanji:

  8. thankuuuusss 🙂 🙂 :yahoo: :jiggy1: and yaa…the T&T blusher comes for Rs 275 and the foundation for about 400 bucks..however..the trick is to catch the best product (by price n quality) from each brand 🙂 ..its a bit risky..and I am really happy I experimented on buying this liner 🙂

  9. dats a gud round of brainstorming u girls have done on chambor…. appreciate
u really make sense…evn m trying to google for its wherabouts..just saw thr official website n it say the shringar collection has been revamped… i think thy r following ur blog rati… :zombiekiller:

    1. thankuuss..and tell u wat..I had the same funny feeling after seeing the Chambor website (that they are following IMBB updates :D)..trust me..I skimmed through the net before to find their website..and only came up with the baccarose one..and today its coming on the first page of search…i donno..m confused 🙁 :violinbash: :violinbash:

    1. oops..I would suggest you check their site..they have a store locator to find a stockist near your place..but also check the Big Bazaar…I think they might have TnT counters 🙂

  10. hey Anuradha…..ur tooooo cute n luk awesum :pompom:
