We are so caught up with green tea (and for all the right reasons, no denial) that we forget how many other great teas are available to us. Best consumed internally, you can also use them in your facial steam or add them to your bath water for a healing rinse. Unlike creams and lotions, teas can get to the root of the problem, helping the removal of toxins and guiding skin to clear on its own. And, that is what a long term solution looks like.
Green Tea (read the bracketed comment in the 1st line :P)
Green tea possesses powerful antioxidants that eat up free radicals and reduce inflammation. They also reduce free androgens, thus reducing hormone induced acne.
Rosehip is the fruit of the rose plant. Rosehip tea is not only yummy and refreshing, but it’s also one of the best sources for vitamin C. Rosehips also have antibacterial, antiviral and anti-aging properties.
Rooibos is a South African broom-like plant. Chemicals in rooibos tea can help regulate the immune system, thus preventing the breakout of inflammatory acne. Another constituent of rooibos tea that is beneficial for acne is zinc. Zinc can help correct the hormonal imbalance that triggers acne. It is also useful for killing off the bacteria that causes acne. Some studies have indicated that the antioxidants in rooibos may also neutralize free radicals that contribute to wrinkles.
Dandelion is one of the richest sources of Vitamins A, C, and E. This group of vitamins together acts as a powerful anti-oxidant. They help in arresting cell degeneration while boosting collagen synthesis. Vitamin E is also responsible for hydrating skin from within.
Menthol present in peppermint lowers the secretion of oil from sebaceous glands. So, drinking peppermint tea can help you get an oil-free and flawless skin. The cooling properties of peppermint help reduce rashes, insect bites and skin inflammation.
Chamomile tea can fight against acne scars through its antioxidant properties. Its anti-inflammatory properties are great for those suffering from eczema, hives, or dry skin. It has an abundance of healing, antioxidant, cleansing and moisturizing properties and is considered a full skincare treatment on its own.
Burdock has been an important medicinal herb in the Western folk medicine and in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years, primarily valued for its blood cleansing and skin healing properties. Burdock root contains antifungal and antibiotic compounds that aid in the fight against the bacteria that causes acne. It is also a gentle blood purifier and liver cleanser.
Ginger is known for its detoxifying properties. Since the skin is often a reflection of the digestive system, removing toxins is a crucial part of maintaining a glowing complexion. Ginger helps to cleanse the body and improve digestion.
