This post is about a product that is touted as an essential one in your skincare routine. Toners are best used after cleansing your skin and before applying your moisturiser. However, one may find it difficult to chose one as the market is flooded with numerous types and formulas of toners. But, once you have identified your most preferred toner then, we move on to the next most important question. What is the best way to use your toner to get the maximum benefit out of the product? Here are a few recommendations.
1. Store your Toner in a Spray Bottle:
Some toners are available in spray bottles, but many come packaged in regular bottles. If you use your toner on a cotton pad, you may accidentally end up using too much of it and wasting the product. By transferring your favourite toner into a spray bottle, you can dispense the right amount of product. Moreover, the product is evenly distributed across your skin and will, therefore, work more effectively. However, if you use an occasional cotton pad swipe, you could store some in a regular bottle for that purpose.
2. Keep the Toner Cool:
It’s always a good idea to store your toner in the fridge. Not only does this improve the shelf life of the product, but it also has a more refreshing, cooling and pore minimising effect on your skin. If you forget to keep your toner in your fridge, you could put it in the freezer for five minutes before using it. Another option is, you can take a little bit of the product and put it in an ice tray. Use this toner ice cube all over your face for a refreshing effect.
3. Use it Before Applying a Face Mask:
Make sure to use your toner just before applying your face mask. Once you have cleansed your face, sweep your toner across your face using a cotton pad. This will remove any excess product, dirt or grime from your skin and it will really prep your skin for the face mask that is to follow. By doing this, you will be enhancing the effectiveness of your face mask.
4. Treat your Zits or Spots with your Toner:
For this, you will have to use a toner that contains one or more of the following ingredients: tea tree oil, witch hazel, aloe vera or salicylic acid. If you have a zit or an acne spot on your face, then all you need to do is take your toner onto a cotton pad and gently press it against the zit for a couple of minutes. This will really get the blemish fighting ingredients in your toner to work on the spot and will help to reduce the inflammation and treat the zit.
5. Exfoliate your Lips:
Did you know that you could actually exfoliate your lips using your toner? Your toner is designed to get rid of dead skin cells and rejuvenate the skin. That’s exactly what you need for your lips. After cleansing your face, take a little bit of toner on a cotton pad and wipe your lips using the same. This will get rid of the dead cells and any flakiness on your lips. To prevent any dryness that may follow, make sure to follow this up with a hydrating lip balm.
