Bite High Pigment Pencil in Chablis Review

Hey guys!

How often do you come across makeup products that you can actually eat? I guess it’s safe to say not often! Well, today I’ll be reviewing Bite’s High Pigment Pencil in Chablis, a product that you can literally take a bite out of. I wouldn’t recommend snacking on these, but to see whether I recommend rocking these on your lips, read on!

Product Description:

This pencil is “made with a double-dose of premium micronized pigments” and “delivers a modern matte look” and “super antioxidant resveratrol, which fights free radicals with potent long-term antiaging benefits.”  Also, “each lip pencil contains the amount of resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine.” This product is also “free of synthetics, polybutenes, and petroleum byproducts and made exclusively with lip nurturing food-grade ingredients that are healthy enough to eat.”

The shade Chablis (which is the name of a type of wine) is described as a soft coral rose.

My Experience with Bite High Pigment Pencil in Chablis:

So, Bite is a beauty company that focuses mostly on making all natural, good-for-you lip products. I really admire their commitment to quality and love the sleek, sophisticated packaging of their products. I wanted to try out their high pigment pencils for a while, but as I have stated in an earlier review, I hadn’t warmed up to the lipstick-as-pencil phenomenon until fairly recently. As a lover of bright, deep shades, Chablis is quite a departure from what I am used to buying.  I thought the coral-rose shade would be a good choice for daytime wear in the spring. I’m actually still on the fence about the shade – sometimes I love it at others I feel it washes me out. It works best when I keep the rest of my makeup soft and dewy and looks really bad with heavily lined eyes.

This lip pencil’s formula is extremely creamy and glides on to the lips easily without feeling heavy at all. That kind of tugging on the lips and heaviness you feel with matte products isn’t really here. This brings me to my next observation that although this pencil is described as matte, it really isn’t. I would not even call it semi matte. I would describe the texture as creamy and the finish appears to be on the matte side because it doesn’t appear shiny or glossy at all. It stays that way for about 3-4 hours on me, if I don’t eat or drink anything, and then stays on as a stain until I am ready to take it off. This does transfer on food and drink, especially when I don’t prime my lips. The stain, however, lasts through the day. The pencil is also very moisturizing on the lips, which was definitely a pleasant surprise to me.

What I love the best about this lip pencil is that it delivers highly pigmented, opaque color to the lips. I have pretty pigmented lips, one reason why I prefer bright colors, and with just a layer, this does a pretty good job. I usually apply two layers for full coverage and it doesn’t look or feel heavy at all. The pencil does self-sharpening; basically you can twist it for more product, and I quite like it that way. Once the tip wears off, the product can be used at an angle easily to line the lips. It doesn’t give the precision of a lip liner but it works.

This product tastes a little bit like cinnamon oil, which isn’t my favorite thing in the world but at the same time isn’t something that’d keep me from repurchasing these pencils again. As I said earlier, I love the matte, black packaging. It’s super sleek and very easy to carry around. I don’t think I will repurchase this particular shade, mainly because I don’t use it enough. However, will certainly be buying more shades from this line because of their rich pigment, creaminess and lasting power.
