This post is going to be a boon to all oily-skinned beauties out there! I have oily, acne-prone skin with blemishes and I am constantly looking out for products that would keep shine at baby. After testing out many oil-controlling products that promised to clear oily skin and reduce the secretion of oil, I kind of realized that these claims more often than not failed to deliver consistent results. When I saw that TBS had come up with a range of tea tree infused products targeted towards oily skin, I couldn’t resist the urge to give this tea tree mattifying lotion a chance.

My Experience with The Body Shop Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion:
I picked out the TBS tea tree toner and the tea tree mattifying lotion from the store. The sales assistant was very particular about regimen and insisted that I buy the mattifying lotion to take care of the shiny areas. She explained that this was to be lightly massaged onto the facial skin before hitting the bed. I use a gentle cleanser for removing all the day’s grime and grit off my face and then apply this gel-like lotion on my face. The tea tree in this product exudes a strong but pleasant scent on application. I also found it a tad cooling sensation on application. It spreads easily, but I was disappointed to see that it leaves a film-like residue on the face.
But lo and behold, I woke up in the morning to a fresher, cleaner-looking face! Normally, my mornings are spent sighing over how oily my face has gotten over the night. With just one application of TBS mattifying lotion, I could see a drastic difference in the amount of oil secretion. I put this combination of tea tree and lemon tea tree oil that significantly clears oily skin.
Boy, did I feel grateful to the sales assistant who insisted I purchase the product! Remember that the sales assistant had advised me to apply this lotion at night and I did have a good experience following her instructions. Well, I decided to take it up a notch and use this as a makeup base too – safe to say that I did end up with a matte, clear look for the rest of the day.
Girls, let me be honest, this product has become my Holy Grail to control shine and help my makeup stay on longer. I have already bought my fourth tube and loving each dollop of it. I can see a marked improvement in skin texture and it has also decreased oil secretion.
Pros of The Body Shop Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion:
- Does what it claims. The product lives up to its name and significantly reduces oiliness and clears my shiny t-zone areas.
- Non-comedogenic. The product does not clog pores, rather purifies it.
- A little goes a long way, only a small amount of the lotion is needed.
- Moisturizing properties. The lotion is moisturizing without leaving the face greasy or cakey looking.
- Excellent makeup base. The TBS mattifying lotion can be worn under makeup to control shine and help your makeup stay on longer.
- Pleasant smell, I found the scent of tea tree and lemon tea tree oil pleasant and refreshing.
- Sturdy packaging, it comes in a handy, sturdy, travel friendly tube that ensures no spillage.
Cons of The Body Shop Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion:
- The product does not reduce blemishes. It does say that is suitable to blemish-prone skin, but does not reduce the appearance of blemishes.
- Some might find the smell a little overpowering.
- Price is a little on the higher side but I found the benefits to be worth the price.
Would I Repurchase The Body Shop Tea Tree Mattifying Lotion?
Oh yes!! I have become addicted to this one product that actually lives up to its claims of mattifying and purifying oily skin.
