The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner

the body shop tea tree tonerI happened to buy The Body Shop tea tree toner on an impulse when I was not even sure what a toner was meant for! I used to think that since my skin is not oily I do not need a toner. Newsflash! I do. I started taking care of my skin only a year ago and until recently I had not noticed that my pores look bigger than usual. All my time and effort is spent in getting rid of acne therefore I neglected the pores. I got the toner after I heard all good things that tea tree did for acne prone skin. I however used it all wrong for a couple of months like using it once in a while or using it only if I spent too much time outside. My skin looked as bad as usual. Go figure!

This toner is meant for blemished skin. I have acne prone, combination skin and have been complaining about blackheads for as long as I can remember! Although my face does not get oily at the end of the day, I find that my pores begin to stand out under the makeup. I wondered for the longest time what was causing it and it never occurred to me that it was my sebum/blackheads. Sebum is the oil secreted by the pores on the skin. Sebum in moderate quantity is meant to prevent the skin from drying out. Too much can cause oily skin and too little can cause dry skin. Layering makeup on top on all that isn’t pretty!

What the product claims

Suitable for blemished skin. Sweeps away traces of impurities for clearer looking skin. Leave skin looking mattified. Infused with tamanu oil.

Ingredients

Community Trade organic tea tree oil from Kenya – an ingredient renowned for its anti-bacterial benefits, an infusion perfect to help blemished skin. Tamanu Oil from Madagascar – traditionally used to promote healthy-looking skin and has fantastic skin moisturising properties. Lemon Tea Tree from Kenya – Anti-bacterial to give the products a zesty fragrance.

Price: INR 595 for 250 ml.

Pros of The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner

• Does what it claims.
• My skin does not get oily at the end of the day.
• The surface of the skin becomes smoother.
• Pores shrink drastically.
• NO MORE BLACKHEADS = NO MORE BLACKHEAD REMOVAL STRIPS
• Has a shelf life of good three years. If you use it almost everyday it will last you two to three months.

Cons of The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Tonerthe body shop tea tree toner

• Expensive
• Stings a little. Those with sensitive skin/dry do not use this as it may be too harsh on these skin types.
• They do not make a smaller size so you have to take a chance with it.

How to use

Dab some on a cotton ball and apply to your face avoiding the eyes. Do not use too much. Take your time to figure out how much you need. If you put too much on it takes a while to dry and it stings that much more. And you will end up wasting the product. I use this twice a day, once after a regular shower and once at night.

My experience with The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner

The other day I followed my cleansing with this toner and a face cream and did not wash my face until evening. I discovered that my face looked and felt clean and my nose was smoother than usual. I looked closely and stopped short of shrieking as I could not spot one blackhead! Hard to believe? Try it. Note – although it has solved my blackhead problem, it has not affected the break outs – they have neither increased nor reduced.

Who should buy this?

Those with oily, acne prone, combination skin. Everyone’s skin produces sebum but only those who are prone to the bacteria causing infection develop acne.

Will I repurchase?

Yes, until they keep making it! And I’m headed to TBS to get other products from the tea tree line.

  2. Actually they do make a smaller travel sized version but it only comes in the Tea Tree skin care kit (with cleanser and moisturizer).

    1. These days I am seeing these smaller body butter tubs also. they are pretty good at Rs 200 or something and if you don’t like the smell you don’t even regret buying it. I hope they do smaller version for a lot of products. 🙂

      1. Yup for 275/- i have seen it….they are cute and travel friendly..but overall rate for qty wise The bigger tub is a bettr option…

  3. Hi is this non-alcoholic based toner :waiting: :waiting: :waiting: :waiting: :waiting:
As far as I know, most of the toners for oily skin has alcoholic.
Now i am confused whether what kinda toner I must use.
    Mine is oily skin.

    1. Rachana…this one is alcoholic…but TBS has one non alcoholic too…cucumber sunthg..i dnt remember the name..it is for sensitive skin…

  4. I am about to finish one bottle.
    And I love it..!
    definitely gonna buy it again….

but has anyone used the fabindia tea tree face wash? is it the same?

    1. Hi Akshi, so you’ve used the face wash? Great I was wondering which one i should pick Fab India or Tea tree. Here on IMBB i’ve read a good reco for the Fab India ONe. i should pick it up

  5. Thanks for reviewing Anuya. :victory: I’m using the TBS Tea tree oil day cream and blemish fade night lotion and it is working on my skin though it takes a little time. My acne scarring and blemishes have reduced and skin texture has improved a bit. The alcoholic content is a downside for me but will definitely give it a try after my fab india tea tree toner which I’ve just purchased.

    1. Hi Ankita, thanks your comment. so you recommend the cream from this line too? I feel creams that claim to ‘fade’ don’t really do the job… let me know how the fab india one is working out for you.

  6. it’s funny…i read a lot of good things and thot id buy it next time i go to tbs..but when i went to the store on sunday (to check on the sale )then i totally forgot to get this 🙁 🙁

    Thanx for reminding me 🙂

  7. i used it .. i works.. no oiliness !! :pompom: no clammy feeling !! usually my skin gets super oily if i go stright from an airconditioned room to the outside ..but even that dosen happen now
this is the first product ive come across that actuualy does stuff it promises.
been using it for the past couple of days..lets see how it works out :yahoo:

  8. Hi. Thanks so much for the review. Uhh, yesterday I was about to purchase this but I found out there was a white coat at the bottom of it. So it’s the product original look or sth is wrong? Thanks again

    1. Hi Jenny,I purchased this 2 months back and just yest noticed sm yellow line at bottom.I called the store where I purchased and SA said thats normal, even new pieces have that. But I insisted that mine might be spoilt and he asked me to bring in the pdt.But after surfing the net and seeing various pics,I have come to realise that this is the case with all the tea tree toner pdt,new and old.
I have not exchanged mine and I dont think it spoilt(If it was spoilt it would smell foul,it has its original smell).so,no I dont think there some problem

  9. nice review anuya…. do u use all the other products also from tea tree line of tbs (like face wash and lotions)??? or just the toner is sufficient… and if not, what do u use as a face wash and cream?? i have same skin type as urs… i.e from normal to oily with blackheads

  10. Hey, everytime i buy smthing i review ur site, 😛
ever since i shifted to puen this acnes have been very disturbing. currently i switched to the tea tree range from body shop and am happy. the toner if taken a lot makes skin feels sticky *smug*

  11. Guys the white-yellow layer at the bottom is apparently due to some corn flour content in the toner, which is responsible for the mattifying effect..one has to shake the bottle well so that it blends into the rest of the liquid before using the toner. 😀
