The product that I am going to review today is ELF Essential Butternut Brightening Eye Color Quad.
I bought this Quad for 2 reasons – first, it’s an ELF product and second you don’t say no to a quad where you get all the shades to sport a neutral and dramatic look. 😀 Plus, when the product is actually available for Just ‘A’ DOLLAR – you don’t think twice! 😀
The Quad comprise of 4 shades (From L-R – Yellow Toned Cream, Peach, Dark Plumb Taupe and Bronze), and as you can see they indeed look really pretty. So, now that you know what the 4 shades look like, let’s just get started with the review.
USD 1 (Yes, you read it right – It’s just a dollar for 4 shades).
• Luxuriously smooth.
• Pigmented formula provides a bright and beautiful sweep of rich color.
• The formula blends into skin for a long lasting, beautiful effect.
• Each quad comprise of 4 coordinating shades that allow for both natural and dramatic looks.
• Built-in mirror and applicator included.

My Experience with ELF Essential Butternut Brightening Eye Color Quad:
Pigmentation: I like all the shades in the quad. While the latter two (Dark Plumb Taupe and bronze) are well pigmented; the former two shades are just bad at it. (I had to work really hard with them just to make them show up in the pictures.)I have actually lost count of the no. of times I had to reapply them just so that they can appear in the pictures.
The latter two, are however beautiful shades; and because I am fond of ‘Smokey Eyes’ makeup look – I quickly forget how bad the first two shades are in terms of pigmentation.
Texture: Again, here too, while the first two (lighter shades) disappointed me, the latter two (darker ones) made me happy about purchasing this quad. The lighter shades are actually quite powdery and chalky, however, the darker shades indeed have a smooth texture. In fact, these two only, live up to the claims made by Elf regarding the smooth texture of the four colours in this quad.
Longevity: Without applying the primer – while the first two are barely visible; the darker shades have a decent staying power. With primer of course, the darker shades last even longer. (4-5 hours easily)
Blending Power: Honestly, the lighter shades are too chalky and keep falling out all the time. They don’t even blend well. Having said that – you will love how smoothly the darker shades blend into your crease. They are just lovely!
The quad comes with a two side applicator brush. Also, there is an inbuilt mirror – just below the eye shadows. It indeed comes very handy and is in fact very innovative.
Pros of ELF Essential Butternut Brightening Eye Color Quad:
• Comes with a tiny mirror – which is inbuilt in the palette itself.
• Travel friendly.
• The darker shades have decent pigmentation.
• The darker shades have a smooth finish.
• All the 4 shades have a slight shimmer to them (Bronze one has the maximum glitter intensity though) .
Cons of ELF Essential Butternut Brightening Eye Color Quad:
• The lighter shades have really bad pigmentation .
• The lighter shades have powdery finish to them .
• The applicator is not really good.
(And here the ratings are based on the shades I liked and the cost of course). 😀
Would I Repurchase ELF Essential Butternut Brightening Eye Color Quad?
I already have this one. But, for the price it is available – I would like to try out other quads by ELF.
Would I Recommend ELF Essential Butternut Brightening Eye Color Quad?
Yes, why not? How often do you get 4 shades for just $1. Huh? 😛 😀
Overall, I am not really disappointed with this quad. It just comes for a dollar! 😀 Besides that, the texture and pigmentation of the darker shades, made me happy that I purchased this quad. I guess, when the price is $1, there is hardly anything to lose. 😀
You can learn a beautiful ‘Smokey Eye’ look, using only two shades from this quad, here. 🙂
