E.L.F. (Eyes Lips Face)’s eyebrow stencil kit($1) is a kit designed to help you shape your perfect brows. I got the kit while I was studying in the US and did not have the luxury(and pain) of a parlor threading session. According to the E.L.F. website, the kit is marketed thus-
“Achieve perfectly shaped brows to accentuate your face. The reusable stencil is easy to use and with 4 stencils: Curved Arch, Soft Arch, Structured Arch and Full Arch to choose from, it makes these brow stencils suitable for all brow shapes. Now your brows can look picture perfect everyday!”.
What does E.L.F. Eyebrow Stencil Kit contain?
The kit contains 4 stencils in 4 different shapes – Curved Arch, Soft Arch, Structured Arch and Full Arch. The kit is made of flexible rubbery plastic cutouts.
How does one use E.L.F. Eyebrow Stencil Kit?
There are three ways to use it- one that is described on the kit and the intended use of the product, and two other ways to use the stencil to shape your brows.
As described on the kit – Choose the stencil that best fits your natural eyebrow shape. The stencil should align at point 1 and point 2 and much of your natural brow hair should be inside the stencil cutout. Next fill in the brow area with your desired filler preference, such as a brow pencil or a brow powder. Use the same stencil for both eyebrows, simply flip and repeat the previous steps to fill in your other brow.
Now this method is basically used when you have a sparse set of eyebrows and this stencil
helps you give your brows a good shape and definition using either a brow pencil or eyeshadow powder. This method works especially fine if the stencil sizes are proportionate to your face size.
This method involves using the stencil to shape and trim your brows. People with generous
amount of eyebrow growth(like me) can use this stencil to trim their brows. You begin by first
choosing the stencil which suits your face structure the best. Then using the diagram behind the kit as a guide, line up the stencil according to where it should start and end. Then using a white (or any other light color) liner to outline it on your existing brows. You can then either tweeze away the stray hairs and/or fill in with a brow pencil places where there are minor gaps.
This method utilizes the stencil as merely a tool to help to visualize how your brows would look if you shaped them differently. Just use this stencils with a pencil/eyeshadow closest to your brow colour and fill them in. You can then figure out the shape that best suits your face and train your eyebrows to grow in that particular shape. I have been to many beauty parlors
where the over confident “threading expert” tortured my eyebrows to a shape I didn’t really agree to suited my face, but could not say anything because I was not sure what was best for my face. But now I can ask them for a particular shape after trying out the stencils.
To sum it up-
Pros of E.L.F. Eyebrow Stencil Kit:
 Great value for a dollar.
 Variety of shapes to experiment.
 Saves the money spent on beautician and getting your brows tortured.
 You could even get your brows professionally threaded every few weeks to help shape, then maintain them using this stencil.
 Great way to get even brows.
 Great way to find your perfect brow shape.
Cons of E.L.F. Eyebrow Stencil Kit:
 Looks unnatural if you fill in most of your brows with colour.
 Might not align with some face sizes, the stencil might be large for people with smaller face structure.
 Works best if you cut some of the plastic off the bottom of the stencil so it does not poke into your eye while applying.
 Stencil might feel a bit stiff but you can warm it using a hair dryer for a few seconds to get a comfortable feel.
E.L.F. Eyebrow Stencil Kit is a good buy especially if the stencils are proportional to your face. Even if you are not sure about the size, its a low cost buy to try it out. Its great to experiment with. Just make sure you don’t go wild and paint your brows too dark or too large since it might look unnatural.
Currently available online on ebay.com from many vendors shipping it worldwide.
Adventurous people can try making one at home by tracing the shape on a visiting card.
