How To Do Hair Spa At Home

Today I will be introducing a procedure of home hair spa completely with natural skin care and hair care ingredients and which gives you the same result as a spa treatment. This procedure takes the same as the spa treatment in parlours. So, let’s get started:

How to do hair spa at home

In this procedure you need
1. A mixture of oils like castor, olive, almond, coconut, and ghee for the oil treatment.
2. A mixture of beetroot juice without dilution and a concentration tea decoction for conditioning
3. Last but the main treatment which is a mask made of bananas, eggs, honey and milk. Also you can also add mayo if u like.
4. any mild shampoo like nyle or fiama di wills

Now let’s see the procedure in detail
Normally all spas use 4 steps of the treatment using various products and I followed the same only with natural ingredients
Now the first procedure of oiling.

hair spa at home

Mix all oils mentioned above and heated them to mix them better. You might be wondering about ghee but let me tell you that’s the most effective smoothening ingredient I ever used and keeps my hair smooth and silky which ever shampoo I use
So now I heated the mixture and made it warm enough to touch without burning. I took the oil with my fingers and distributed evenly into my hair strands concentrating on the scalp and massaging. My mom helped me in this a lot. After half an hour I used the shampoo. Dry your hair under sun if you can.

The next procedure is conditioning.

Grate a beetroot and squeeze to get juice and add tea decoction and mix well. You can use hibiscus flower powder as a base to hold it in your hair. I used banjaras hibiscus powder. This conditioner is extremely rich in iron, Vit A and all major vitamin. The minerals from beetroot, which also gives a beautiful maroon tinge and tea intensifies the colour of your hair and conditions it. Wait for half an hour and rinse only with warm water (no shampoo).

banana for hair

The next and final procedure is the mask

Get some ripe bananas. (you know how they get black? the blacker the better) One is enough if you have more than just shoulder length hair, two if you have longer hair. And add quarter cup of milk, 3 table-spoons of honey and egg white from 2 eggs, and blend them to get a fine paste. Put them in a mixer grinder to get a fine paste. You can add coconut oil also. Use only the pure coconut oil as the market ones have bleach in them to get the clear colour, and turn your hair grey sooner than you would like.

This is how pure one looks. I added coconut oil and the mask smelt like a coconut chocolate …yummy. Banana is rich in vitamins and is a great hair softener and treats damaged hair due to environmental conditions and good for splits. Milk – semi straightens hair and provides protein, eggs as well have the same effect as milk while honey cleanses, deodorizes and conditions the hair. Apply the mask all over your hair and cover with a shower cap, wait for half an hour and rinse and shampoo to get the oil out. The banana may require extra water to get it out. Dry your hair.

I followed this procedure meticulously and you would not believe the effects. My hair was silky-smooth and didn’t get frizzy at all for 4 days straight even though I didn’t shampoo again. The colour was a rich burgundy and shone like a mirror and the shine stayed for 7 days almost. My curls were bouncy but in control and extremely soft to touch. My splits are less too. The mask is one of the best homemade masks I used.

I would recommend this procedure to every woman who wants beautiful hair without the expense of a parlour on their pockets and as it’s completely natural no side effects …yahoo! Please try this and let me know girls. Have a great day.

  1. Whoa, what a spa idea, Dharini! I have been thinking of giving some love to my hair for sometime now but it’s such a busy time to go rushing to the salon and waste time on hair spa. Definitely going try this at home some weekend though. 😀

Where do you find this kind of dark pure coconut oil? Also, does the smell of egg wash off? I am terribly scared of putting egg in my hair for the fear of smelling like an omelette-serving dhaba. 😛

    1. no no dont ever use egg yolk…..it doesnt do anything trust me…..egg white is the actual thing loaded with all the things needed for the yolk to develop….and it contains stem cells…helps repair hair roots by replacing the damaged…..i got the oil from the cocnuts we use in our temple in my gran’s place….we own a temple…so….just try the mask alone….and u will have no complaints about the smell…trust me

    2. thanks a lot ms. wocky…no worries only use egg white like instructed….you will have no smell at all….always wear a shower cap when using egg white though

  2. Hi dharini, i love ths DIY par can u tell me what shud be done to replace eggs in ths as i belong to a bhramin family n eggs r complete NO NO!!! is yoghurt fine???

    1. yes butter milk helos….i am a brahmin tooo…..but egg is fine in my family if its only the food for my hair….you can use mayo if its fine with you….we have veg mayo these days…

  3. Nice Spa idea Dharini… I already use the mixture of coconum, almond, olive and castor oil to oil my hair… and it works well.
About the banana and honey mask I have used it unce and it was such a paint to washh it off…. I washed hair 3-4 times still the banana pices where stuck in my curls 🙁
Please tell me know you took care of this issue.

    1. make sure u take most of the mask out before the shampoo…..run your fingers through your hair…..also use a mixer to blend the banana…like a smoothie….its best removed when the particles are tiniest

  4. wow what n amazng diy! i will try it soon.u r rght abt the coconut oil.i never use parachute types.thy r all bleached. thnks 🙂
shweta whn ur makng th banana mask it shd be pureed to fne paste n no chunks.

  5. no no not at all….use pure ghee…and always mix with another oil…..its the best smoothening treatment i used….super glossy hair…..mine was like copper brown the most shiny i have seen..

  6. what a great idea! I am such a lazy person..It would be an accomplishment to do this at home! going to the parlor is just such a big pain in the bum! Will start with the oiling and pack 😀

    1. all brands are not pure shruti sorry for that…..i got this extracted from coconuts which we get in our temple…..you know what…ask your maid….normally maids and all get their oils from mills…they are pure without any additions….i got once from my maid tooo…

  7. Hi Dharani,
I have seen and heard people say that honey turns hair grey. Is it true? I am really very scared to try any home treatment because I am unable to find an answer to it.

  8. no uma dont worry…thats not true at all…honey brands we get in market are using bleach for the golden colour….pure honey is blood red in colour and doesnt have any such effects…but one tip…always mix it wirth another ingredient and also…dont get exposed to sun while u r at it

  9. hi dharani

can we do those 4 steps in oneday or wat?every step we r washing the hair.if it is possible to do in oneday tell me the procedure.

  10. this is a one day procedure dear….all of it takes around 2 and half hours…ya i know lot of hair washing but its how they do in spa as well

    1. i dont know about that dear…never done it…i suggest permanent smoothening if you need it. gives straight and at the same time extreme smooth silky hair:) try in loreal salons

  11. Hi Dharini,
Can u suggest some mild herbal shampoos for dry hair dear.
And a very good article i must say…… I have dark brown hair…. I hope the beetroot juice won’t color it much…..
Can u suggest some good honey brands available in the market please.?
    With best wishes
    Kirti…

  12. I have a little query here. I once used a DIY banana, honey and milk mask on my hair and left it for 15 mins and to my dismay the banana got stuck in my hair and left my hair frizzy and extremely unmanageable 🙁

  13. What if I dnt want that burgundy color from beet root?? Could u pls suggest something else instead of beetroot?

  14. Hi Dharani,

While browsing for home spa treatment I saw your post and felt its amazing! But can you *pretty pleaseeee* help me with this?
I have got dark black hair and I don’t wanna have red shade of beetroot. Can I still follow the same method assuming that beetroot wont stain my hair red? Else whats the replacement for it?

    Please help.
    Thanks.
