My Experience with Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer For Combination/Oily:
Since my skin is very oily in nature, finding a good moisturizer, which does not make me even oilier, is a big challenge! I try to get products marked specially as “For Combination/Oily skin.”
My expectation is that these products are specifically formulated to combat oiliness. When I came across this moisturizer from Olay, I was really happy to pick it up, as it is specifically for Combination/Oily skin and also has SPF 15, which is very much helpful in this summer. I was happy that I could combine moisturization and sun protection in one step!
The Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer is available in 3 variations – Normal, Sensitive and Combination/Oily. The “Sensitive” variation was reviewed here on IMBB earlier by Neha. The one con of that moisturizer seems to have been rectified by this moisturizer, which is very ironic, as you will find below!
The Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer – Combination/Oily comes in a white bottle with a black cap. The bottle does not contain a pump. You can squeeze the bottle to get the moisturizer out. The moisturizer is white in color and has a slightly runny consistency. It gets absorbed in the skin quickly and feels quite lightweight on the skin.
The moisturizer has a very mild and pleasant fragrance, like most Olay products. Since it contains SPF 15, I can use just this and skip a separate sunscreen for regular use. Maybe if I know I am going to be in the sun for a very long time, I might need a higher SPF, but for everyday use, this is sufficient.
The moisturizer claims to contain vitamin B3 for hydration and antioxidant vitamins C and E for healthier skin, which is another major plus. So all the positives of this moisturizer have been mentioned! Now coming to the main reason why I selected this variation of the Olay moisturizer – the formula for combination/oily skin! It fails badly here! This moisturizer is NOT meant for combination/oily skin at all. As soon as I apply this, my skin absorbs it really quickly, but I am left with a shiny face! It looks terrible! If I found that my face got shinier even after a couple of hours, I could put it down to my overactive oil glands! But that is not so. This is an immediate after effect! But it works really well on any dry, flaky patches on my face caused due to acne medication.
After researching on this a bit, I found that one of the main ingredients, niacinamide, makes this moisturizer too emollient for oily skin. This would work best for normal to dry skin. Neha, who had reviewed the “Sensitive” version of this moisturizer, has mentioned in her review that it did not help with the dry patches. She has actually recommended the “Sensitive” version for normal or combination skin. Whereas, the oily version seems to be made for people with dry skin! What an irony!
Pros of Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer For Combination/Oily:
- Lightweight formula.
- Contains SPF 15.
- Oil-free and non-comedogenic.
- Mild pleasing fragrance.
- Gets absorbed quickly.
- Contains Vitamins B3, C and E for healthy-looking skin.
- Moisturizes dry patches/flaky skin really well.
- Can be used as a base under your makeup.
Cons of Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer For Combination/Oily:
- Does not work for oily/combination skin. Makes skin look very shiny – Over moisturizes!
Would I Recommend Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer For Combination/Oily?
I would recommend this moisturizer for people with dry or normal skin. Do not go by what Olay has categorized this as. This is a really good moisturizer, it is lightweight and non-greasy but moisturizes really well and works as a sunscreen too, but not for oily skin. Oily skin folks will do better with the “sensitive” version, as suggested by Neha. I use this one only on the dry patches on my face caused by any acne medication. For the rest of the face, this is a disaster!
3/5 (only because it is incorrectly targeted for oily/combination skin!)
