My Experience with Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate
I am not much of a cream contour person. I pretty much contour and highlight with powders. But being a Tom Ford makeup nerd that I am, I have to try everything he has to offer in his makeup line. 😛
For the longest time I would use this product and stop using it. Then I’d pick it up some random day again and use it. But since this has never disappointed me even for a day, I started using it quite frequently from past few weeks. And here’s a detailed review for all of you. 🙂
It comes packaged in the gorgeous ‘Tom Ford’ classic packaging with bronzy outer, a huge mirror on the inside and a velvet pouch. The main product compartment holds the shade and illuminate products. It’s basically a cream highlighter and a contour kit. It is available in two shade Intensity 1 (for light to medium skin tones) and intensity two (for medium to dark skin tones). I picked up in the shade intensity two because I felt the Intensity 1 would be a bit lighter for my skin.
It is a gorrrrrgeous cream contour kit. The contour shade is dark cool toned brown…has a bit of taupe undertones that makes it perfect for creating the most natural looking shadows on your skin. And the highlighter is a dream. It’s not shimmery nor frosty nor micro shimmery.. nothing. It’s like a sheen..like a pearly sheen that looks super natural. You notice that super natural glow on runway model’s skin? That is the kind of glow it gives.
The texture of both the products is super creamy…to the extent of being emollient. So the plus point is that they go on the skin like a dream. They give you enough time to blend to completely before setting. But the negative point is that if you don’t set it with powder, the products would start looking oily after 3-4 hours. But if it is winter time and you are out for a few hours only, you could totally wear this on its own and this would look the most natural contour and highlight.
I personally like to swipe the ‘shade’ with my finger tips and blend it all with a Real Techniques Buffer brush. For illuminate, I just like to pat it with finger tips. It looks like a glow from within. 😀
If you are someone who likes to use cream contouring and highlighting products, you NEED to experience this product. It would change the way you’d have ever felt about the cream products. Tom Ford has kinda mastered the textures of both the products. But if you are someone who prefers powder products, it’s may not be for you.
Oh! It photographs amazing.
Overall, an excellent product. A total must try.
FOTD : So I have used just the shade and illuminate for the review purposes. But I would go ahead and set everything with powder products and would also add a blush to the look.
And this is pretty much the finished makeup look. 🙂
