A vital part of doing my eyeshadow routine is using a good eyeshadow base since I have oily eyelids. Though I thoroughly love and swear by my MAC Paint Pot in Painterly and Soft Ochre, I decided to try out some new ones from ELF as I was browsing through their website. Today, I am going to share my experience of the ELF Beautifully Bare Smooth Matte Eyeshadow in “Marvelous Mauve.” So, let’s get started!

My Experience with ELF Marvelous Mauve Beautifully Bare Smooth Matte Eyeshadow:

Packaging: This matte eyeshadow is packed in a square and tiny tube with a doe-foot applicator wand. This tube sure looks like a lip product tube. It also comes housed in an outer cardboard paper packaging with all details of the product mentioned on it. The cap of the tube is a pretty shiny silver screw cap that shuts securely. I really do not know how ELF manages to pack their products ranging from 3-4 bucks with such good quality and outer packaging as well!

Colour and Pigmentation: The color “Marvelous Mauve” is by no means a mauve colour. This is such a misleading name especially if you’re looking for a mauve shade in particular. This colour is more like a soft chocolate brown with warm undertones. The pigmentation of this baby is quite nice for a product like this. With one swipe of the product, the colour shows up fully which can be sheered out on blending on the eyes. It can also be built up with another coat without caking up too much, but I would not suggest going for a third coat of this product.

Texture: If you’re expecting the texture of this eyeshadow to be like a super matte base, let me tell you that it’s not! The consistency of this product is like a slippery cream which does not tend to set completely. It’s quite annoying to blend this on the eyes and yet not get that complete matte look to layer more eyeshadows on the top. I need to wait for about 3-4 minutes for this to dry up for layering more shadows. I personally feel the texture could have been a lot better, considering this baby is called “Matte Eyeshadow”!!

Longevity: I do believe that this lasts on the lid for about 4-5 hours and then starts fading away evenly. If layered with other shadows, it’s longevity is increased for up to 6 hours. For a longer wear time, I would suggest going for a good shadow base like MAC Paint Pots or Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Quality: Frankly, this eyeshadow has confused me to an extent that I don’t quite see why this is necessary!! You need a base under this and other powder shadows on top, so why use this product in the first place!! It can be left without topping it with a powder shadow, but it doesn’t look all that great then. So all in all, this is one product that does not need to be a part of anyone’s makeup kit!

Cons of ELF Marvelous Mauve Beautifully Bare Smooth Matte Eyeshadow:

• Not a must-have or necessary product by any means.
• Misleading shade name.
• Misleading product name – this is not matte.
• Does not set completely on the eyelids.
• Needs a base and powder shadow to complete the look.
• Creases after a while.
• Not available in India.

Would I Recommend/Repurchase ELF Marvelous Mauve Beautifully Bare Smooth Matte Eyeshadow?
I am not too sure whether I should recommend this product or no! As I said, this product has confused me! But I can sure say that it is not a must-have and can be skipped easily. Even though it is extremely affordable, I would not suggest trying this out.
