Today, I would be talking about the effective ways to treat cystic acne. A cystic acne is an intense form of acne that results in large, inflamed cysts and nodules that appear on the skin. Cystic acne can affect both men and woman after 30 years of age. Experts have reported that cystic acne can appear on the shoulder, back, upper arms, chest and several other body parts. Common medical treatment for cystic acne like Accutane might work, but it’s been linked to really serious side effects, including birth defects. So, it is always better to try some home remedies to treat these rigid cystic acnes on the face.

1. Ice it:
You can apply ice directly to the cystic acne and also soothe the surrounding skin with cold water. Applying ice constricts the small blood vessels feeding the painful cyst. You need to take one ice and hold it on the cystic acne for at least 2-3 minutes. Once the size of the ice starts decreasing, you will observe the redness of the acne reducing slowly.
2. Change Your Towel and Pillow Cover Regularly:
Although it is advised that you should be changing your towel and pillow cover once in a week, it is required to change it daily. For those who have cystic acne, they should consider changing the towel and pillow cover every day because these two things come in regular contact with your skin. To reduce the chance of irritation or sensitivity, it is always good to wash them regularly and use an alternative piece of towel and pillow.
3. Avoid Popping:
Cystic acnes are not like normal acne and hence, popping is strictly discouraged. Cystic acne, unlike common acne, typically does not give you “poppable” pimples. Due to the depth of cystic acne lesions, picking or squeezing can be completely ineffective and will likely extend healing time from days to weeks. The more you touch the cystic acne, the more intense it can develop.
4. Aloe Vera Gel:
Using aloe vera gel is one of the effective methods that can help in treating cystic acne. Due to antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties found in aloe vera, it can help to reduce acne inflammation and also clears out the toxins. Apply aloe vera gel and allow it to dry naturally. Repeat doing this 2-3 times in a day to get a clear and glowing skin.
5. Tea Tree Oil:
Tea tree oil works against an abscess formed due to excessive oil pores being blocked. Tea tree oil is extremely effective in treating cystic acne and most of the victims are advised to use beauty products with tea tree oil extracts or base of tea tree oil. Take 5 spoons of tea tree oil and add it to distilled water. Now, apply this mixture on your acne and then wash off with cold water.
6. Coconut Oil:
Coconut oil contains antibacterial properties which help to treat cystic acne easily. Since cystic acne is basically a bacterial infection, coconut oil works wonders to treat cystic acne. It helps to reduce redness and the inflammation around the acne. Apply some coconut oil on the acne and leave it overnight. Repeat the remedy for 2-3 times in a day.
Make a paste of potato and blend them together to make a thick paste. Now, exfoliate your skin with this potato paste and allow it to sit on your skin for some time. Potatoes help to reduce burning and swelling and it also helps in pulling out the impurities which lead to acne.
