Here’s another liquid lipstick review for you today, and again from the “Lime Crime” range. However, unlike “Red Rose,” Beet It, Saddle, Polly and Rustic that I had reviewed earlier for you – this one (Posh) is a metallic lipstick. I have reviewed the shade “Lana” for you from this range, which I really liked. Let’s see how this one performed.

I have discussed this in my previous reviews as well. While evaluating a product, I do not take price into evaluation of the merits of a product. I believe that a product should be measured for itself, against the claims made by the brand and what else is available at that price point. Whether it is $5 or $20 or $50, is a discussion between you and your wallet. Having said that, I just want to share one aspect of the pricing with you when you are considering liquid lipsticks – at this price point of about $20, there are about a million different options in the market – Kat Von D, Lime Crime Velvetines,
Ofra, Huda Beauty, Beauty Bakerie, Stila, Joeur, Smashbox, Tarte, Too Faced, MAC, etc, etc, etc. However, considering the amount of product in a
tube versus what other companies offer, is a bit of a shocker and making it way more
expensive than other companies in its price range.

Kat Von D Everlasting – $20 – 6.6ml
Lime Crime Velvetine – $20 – 2.6gms
Packaging:
The metallics come packaged in the same packaging as the regular lipsticks. It comes packaged in the their trademark red boxes with roses on it – the owner’s favourite flower. The box has a strip on it which has the shade name and ingredients mentioned on it and is colour coordinated to the shade of the lipstick and that makes it easy to locate if you have more than one and if you store them in the box itself. The liquid lipstick tube itself has a frosted transparent tube with a cap carrying the same pattern as the box – eye-catching and a tad bit girly.
The applicator is a standard doe-foot applicator. Since the size of the tube is small, the length of the wand is also small. This allows you for more precise application. I am able to get good decent clean lines with the wand, I have never needed to use a separate brush for it – even though the brand has advised regarding the use of a brush, if required.
My Experience with Lime Crime Posh Metallic Velvetines Liquid Lipstick:
Color: Described by the brand as a “metallic plum” shade. To me, the shade seems more purple than plum. So, if you were to ask me why I picked up this shade – it is quite simple – Purple and Metallic. Need I say more?
The shade is a deep purple with a violet frosted sheen. It is a stunning and an extremely eye-catching shade. In the FOTD, I have only a bit of base makeup on and have done my brows. Unfortunately, I am struggling with a bit of eye infection, so I avoided all eye makeup. But I still wanted to go ahead and take pics for the review. This actually allows the lipstick to shine through because it is the only thing which is holding the whole look together.
Lime Crime Metallics are quite interesting because they are metallic to the core but still not blingy. It is kind of difficult to explain. The shade is distinctly metallic and yet it isn’t over the top and nor would I describe it as muted. To me, it seems perfect to wear – for a day event or an evening out, both. Though, a shade like “Posh” obviously works better for an evening than day.
Texture: The texture of the lipstick is consistent with the line – quite liquidy. It has excellent pigmentation and gives full coverage for the entire lip in one dip. The bigger challenge when using a metallic lip is that:
- it can tend to cling onto the lips as it wears.
- the pigment tends to accumulate in crevices and lip lines.
- the metallic pigment tends to feel gritty.
- the metallic pigment can spread unevenly or separate from the liquid.
This one has NONE of these concerns! The texture has been worked out really well. The lipstick performs just like a regular Lime Crime Velveteen.
The lipstick dries down fairly quickly. Once set, it’s fairly budge-proof. It is not very drying but it’s not hydrating either. This shade did seem to create some slight dry patches over a whole day wear and the wear itself wasn’t very smooth. I will take this up while discussing the lasting power of the lipstick. However, do not that the texture still isn’t too drying – it is still fairly comfortable to wear.
Pigmentation: Pigmentation is very good. The liquid lipstick goes on smoothly and settles into a matte finish. It covers any lip pigmentation very well. The pigment goes on evenly – it doesn’t bunch up or sink into the crevices.
Lasting Power: I have tried using this shade for the whole day. However, it doesn’t work for a whole day wear. For one, the lipstick gives about 4-5 hours of decent wear, post which it starts disappearing from the inner portion of the lip. With subsequent wear, the shade starts disappearing from larger area of the lower lip as well and considering the shade is so deep and does not leave a stain – when it disappears from any portion of the slip – it is starkly evident. Another thing with this shade is that it tends to create slight dry patches on the lower lip and the pigment kind of sticks to that while it starts disappearing from the rest of the lip. This obviously looks extremely unappealing. So, while the shade is “to die for,” I would suggest using it for only evening wear – when you know that the party/event you are attending is gonna last around 4-5 hours. Also, since it is a metallic shade, it can work wonders for highlighting, so you can use it to highlight the middle portion of the lip while using a darker matte shade as a base or just on the outer area.
Fragrance: There is a distinct sweet fragrance…like that of vanilla cup cakes. It could definitely be an issue for someone who has a sensitive nose. I’m not too fond of it, but find it tolerable because it dissipates fairly quickly.
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Lime Crime Posh Metallic Velvetines Liquid Lipstick:
- A stunning metallic purple shade.
- Lightweight texture.
- Good pigmentation.
- Easy to apply with the applicator – very easy to get clean lines.
- It applies smoothly and evenly.
- No feathering or bleeding.
- Decent packaging.
- Easy to identify colour from the tube itself.
- Does not flake.
- Vegan formula.
- Not overtly drying – but does create some dry patches.
- Cruelty free.
- Vegan.
Cons of Lime Crime Posh Metallic Velvetines Liquid Lipstick:
- Creates slightly dry patches on the lip.
- Wear time is lesser than other shades from the range. It gives about 4-5 hours of proper intact wear.
- Fragrance could be an issue for some.
- The quantity is almost half/less than half of other brands in the market, in the same price range.
IMBB Rating:
A 3.75/5 product.
The shade is stunning and I do really appreciate the texture of the metallic shade, the pigment does not separate, it does not fall into the fine lines of your lips, it does not accumulate, it does not feel gritty. This is difficult to achieve because if it wasn’t, i am sure other lines would have been able to reproduce similar product. After all, every single makeup line out there is busy producing metallic lipsticks right now. Yes, this particular shade has certain issues and the wear time isn’t as good as the others in the line, but I still do like it.
