Bizarre Fashion Trends From Around The World

Strange fashion trends from around the world.

Fashion is all about imagination. It can be beautiful, breathtaking, boring or sometimes plain weird. Fashion is often an individual statement and sometimes one woman’s fashion is another woman’s madness! Here are some of the weird and strange fashion statements that managed to make an impact in recent times.

Bunny ears

The fall of 2009 saw one of the weirdest fashion trends catching on. It was the bunny ears headbands. Celebrities such as Lady Gaga and the Olsen twins have been spotted sporting it. Considered a very haute hair accessory even Louis Vuitton came out with their version which was spotted on pop-star Madonna. Despite it looking like something you would wear at a school play, this was widely popular. Maison Michel also came out with bunny and cat ear headbands in his Fall 2009 collection. A lesser popular version of the Mickey mouse ears.

Kegadoru Bandage Fashion

No article on bizarre fashion is complete without a mention of Japanese fashion. Japan is truly the global capital of strange fashion. Sample this. Sometime back the Kegadoru bandage fashion was all the range. Young Japanese girls covered themselves in bandages and head wraps. Eye patches, head bandages, and tops make entire of bandage cloth were immensely popular. Interestingly White bandages represent virginity and chastity while black bandages represent wickedness.

Galloping Boots

This one again is another classic from the Japanese fashion scene. Boots with embedded chromed metal horse shoes in the soles were a big hit. Also called Stallion-letos, they are popular because of the hoove marks they leave when worn on a snowy day. Eeks!

Hyper-color Fashion

Color changing clothes, accessories and shoes were a big hit in the 80’s. And they are back with a bang. Puma came out with a range of shoes that change color with temperature. Made out of heat sensitive leather, the shoes change color in different environments depending on the temperature.

American apparel also came out with color changing t shirts. That faded/ became dark depending on the room temperature. They are called thermocromatic jersey tees. They are quite popular among American teenagers. Actually this is one weird trend I don’t mind trying . 🙂

Hypercolour fashion wasn’t restricted to just clothes and shoes. The Melonoma bracelets called “ I will reflect” were launched by SpaFinder. They change color when exposed to harmful UV rays. This is a rather unique way of combining bizarre fashion and health awareness.

After piercing every possible body part, it’s only but natural that you run out of places to wear jewelry. A Dutch company has gone one step further and introduced eye jewelry. This process involves inserting a 3.5mm-wide piece of platinum – that the eye will accept The company has introduced designs such as a glittering half-moons and hearts. The company says that this has been tested and is completely safe and has no side effects. However soon after introduction several eye specialist have raised concerns on the safety of this form of body art.

Another version of the eye jewelry was danglers attached to contact lenses. There were launched by designer Eric Klarenbeek.

Lady Gaga style

If one had to vote for the queen bee of eccentric fashion, I think Lady Gaga would win hands down. With her weird outfits and over the top make up, she is a favorite subject among fashion critics. Be it a movie premiere or an awards ceremony, the paparazzi flock to her and never seem to get enough. It is quite impossible to define her sense of fashion. The picture will prove this point. But while her outfits attract a fair amount of ridicule, a surprisingly large number of young women love her look. The lady gaga style of make up and fashion is definitely here to stay.
