Estee Lauder Cyber White Brilliant Cells Extra Intensive BB Crème Multi-Action Formula SPF 35 Review

I am back again with an Estee Lauder product – AAAHHHH!! I can hear the collective groan!! Ha ha ha! I do love the brand, so I feel comfortable experimenting with it. This product is a BB cream with SPF 35/PA+++ protection and has been exclusively designed for the Asian market where whitening and brightening products are so sought after. I picked this in Hong Kong – not because I was particularly kicked about the product, but more to qualify for the GWP! Ya – I do love my freebies! So, let’s find out how this one performed 🙂

This all-in-one product minimizes the appearance of imperfections and evens skin tone. Gentle and lightweight, this creme leaves skin feeling comfortable. It keeps skin looking fresh all day by helping inhibit surface oil and shine. It creates a smooth base for make-up to glide on.  Gently apply desired amount over entire face every day, avoiding eye area. Follow with CyberWhite Makeup.

Packaging:  The product comes in the typical aquamarine blue tube packaging which comes with a silver screw-on cap. The packaging is simple, efficient and functional. The same is packaged into the typical cardboard box, which I have long since discarded. A good thing to note about the packaging is also that the opening of the tube had a seal, ensuring that the product was not tampered with. I really do appreciate these small things done by a brand to ensure the quality of the product right till it recahes the customer.

My Experience with Estee Lauder Cyber White Brilliant Cells Extra Intensive BB Crème Multi-Action Formula SPF 35:

First things first! This is a product designed for the Asian market, so to me, it looks like it is competing for a spot against the Asian BB creams – more specifically, the Korean BB creams. So, let’s see how this performs on the whole and specifically, in comparison to the more popular Korean stuff.

This BB cream comes in one single shade – there is no light, medium or fair shades. There is one shade, fits all, methodology here and to an extent, this methodology does work, because the BB cream does seem to work on me as well as someone darker and someone lighter than me. How does that happen? Well, there are a couple of reasons for that.

One, the shade is a neutral beige colour which does not lean pink, nor is it yellow.  It is an extremely neutral shade. So, it can cater to a variety of skin tones – whether they lean yellow or pink or neutral. The second and probably the more important aspect which allows the BB cream to be universally adaptive is the fact that it is not a very pigmented product. It spreads easily to provide a very sheer coverage. So, when the pigmentation is this low, it pretty much blends into the skin like a tinted moisturizer. So, the shade is forgiving on pretty much any skin tone.

So, the point it brings forth is that the coverage is extremely low. It does not cover any pigmentation or scars. The consistency is medium and creamy. The nozzle of the tube gives sufficient control regarding the quantity of product being dispensed out. Once applied (dotted and spread), the product evens out the skin tone a little and makes it look brighter, apart from providing adequate sun protection. When I had initially bought this product, I had pretty much written it off due to two reasons:

1. Does not cover skin pigmentation, so someone like me who has acne scars felt it to be inadequate.
2. In the heat and humidity of Mumbai, the product wasn’t really working for more than 3-4 hours, that too post setting it with powder. Post this time, it would just break down.

However, I have since, changed my opinion on this one because I got to try it in this slight winter-y season of North India – where there is no heat and humidity. Rather, my usually oily skin feels quite dry. So, I see the BB cream lasting on me pretty much the whole day – say 8 hours or so. Also, the changes in my skin care routine has positively impacted my skin. With the scarring clearing to an extent, I feel more comfortable with this BB cream since I don’t feel the need for too much coverage anymore.

However, considering that the product is priced at around $60, I feel you would have the option of much better variety of BB creams in Asia – say the Korean ones, which obviously gives way better coverage and skin benefits. So, why would one buy the Estee Lauder BB cream? Beats me.

To summarize, it’s a nice product; however, I feel the price point and market seems incorrect for it. Since, it’s not technically a whitening product, it did not need to be Asia specific product. Rather, it might have worked better in the European market. At this price point, one could easily pick a much better BB cream from Dr Jart or Missha, etc.

• Simple, hygienic, travel-friendly packaging.
• Sheer coverage.
• Natural finish if not set with a powder.
• Contains SPF 35/ PA+++.
• Easy to spread and blends easily.
• Feels very light on the skin.
• Gives a very radiant and natural look to the skin.
• Wear time depends on the climate and the skin type, can range from 4 hours to 8 hours plus.
• Non comedogenic.
• No whitish cast of sunscreen.
• Can be used as a sunscreen base under your foundation.

Cons of Estee Lauder Cyber White Brilliant Cells Extra Intensive BB Crème Multi-Action Formula SPF 35:

• The price point in that market.
• Very sheer coverage.
• Most of the Asian countries have high humidity, the product does not work well in humid climate.
• Need to definitely check whether the colour is blendable on your skin. The one colour fits all might not work for gals who are on the darker end of the spectrum.

I feel it’s a decent product, it delivers on all the promises made by the brand; however, may not be the best option for you at the price point – in the specific market. It seems to be typical Western BB cream. Not sure why it is Asia specific.

Not really. I would rather try Dr. Jarts or Missha, etc
