This is my first maybelline lipstick and yes it’s a red.
So much has already been written about the color sensational range here in IMBB that I had to pick up at least one. While looking for some corals and pinks my eyes fell upon this lipstick with the name tag”Fatal Red”. At this point I need to mention that I have a thing for “Red and black”. You will find mostly blacks in my wardrobe and when it’s not black it’s mostly red. Unlike the case with my clothes I like very subtle colors everywhere else. This being the case I never ever dared to pick a red lipstick knowing that I am not going to use it. I usually don’t like those red painted lips or should I say I don’t like Red on everybody. (except for Sonam kapoor 😛 ) you have to carry it really well or it looks horrible. Don’t know what happened to me that day, I tried it at the store and picked it up immediately. Glad that I did. 😀
I’ll not bore with the details about this range once again. Let’s just talk about this particular shade.
Texture & Color: It’s just the perfect shade of red that is all RED, not blue based, not coral based….just RED. I hope it makes some sense. Warm and bright, it will suit the Indian skin tones perfectly. The thing I like most about this shade is the versatility it comes with. With a lip balm under, a single swipe gives a beautiful hue of pink to the lips which is easily wearable in broad day light and with multiple swipes it shows its true color which is again the most beautiful red I’ve seen till date. Just a swipe and it totally brightens up your face even without any make up on.
The texture is oh so creamy!!! I liked it so much that ordered another shade online that very day only. 😀
Staying Power: Not really great staying power I must say. It stays put in its place for 3 hrs very easily. After that it starts fading but leaves a faint tint on your lips which give a natural healthy lips kind of feel to it.
Pigmentation and Coverage: For pigmentation and coverage you can check the swatches. On single swipe it seems somewhat sheer, which is why you can wear it like that if it feels too ‘in your face’ and bold to you. When swiped more than twice it gives you the perfect red lips you can flaunt. 😉
Being a red lippy I expected it to bleed but to my surprise it stays put on my lips even without any lipliner. Fails miserably in the stain test though!!!!
1. Will suit all Indian tones.
2. Does not dry out the lips.
3. Fades evenly leaving behind a lovely tinge.
4. Imparts a perfect creamy look.
5. Pigmentation is good and is quite buildable.
6. it is without any kind of shimmer. I really like my lipsticks to be shimmer free.
7. Does not settle into fine lines.
8. Reasonably priced.
1. Staying power is not something to boast about.
2. Stains the mugs and glasses if you have a drink with this on.
And this is how it looks on my lips.
And this is how it looks on me. 😀
My rating: 4.25 out of 5
Final word: If you want to try out a red lipstick for the first time I suggest you try this. I am totally loving this at this point of time and yes I’ll get it once again for sure.
