I saw the swirl gel liner review in black here and I immediately got the brown one. This is my first gel liner and I am really excited about it!

My Take on Maybelline Lasting Drama Swirl Gel Liner in Brown and Gold:

My first impression of the product was “awwwww sooo cute.” The pot is small and cute. It has a screw type silver color metal cap. An expert brush comes with the liner which has a cap. Both the pot and the brush are compact and can be easily accommodated in one’s makeup kit.

I ll first talk about the brush. It is small, less than my palm length, and is compact. The cap prevents any the dust getting stuck to the bristles, which makes it ideal to carry to office or elsewhere and is basically hygienic.  The bristles are thin and densely packed. The tip is thin and helps picking the right amount of product and gives an even application. The liner can be applied either thin or thick using the brush (and I like this aspect the most about the brush).

Now, about the gel liner. The pot contains a beautiful golden swirl starting from the corner and ending right at the center. With this, one can apply the liner in three different types. The brown alone, gold and brown mixed, and the gold alone!

Here are the swatches in three ways in the above-stated order.

I don’t think the gold will be visible on the lids, but the SA told me that the gold can be used as a shadow on the lids with the brown color as a liner. I like the gold + brown mix the most. So, here is another swatch (gold + brown top and brown bottom).

I wanted to test the smudgeproof and water proof claim of the liner.  So, I smudged the swatch after 2 minutes. See for yourself!

I rubbed over the swatches lightly and that too within 2 minutes of application. The SA told me to wait for 15 minutes for it to set, but I think 5 minutes is what it takes to set.

Next, I rubbed the swatches very hard under water.

The pressure that I applied for rubbing the swatch cannot be applied on the lids. I had rubbed hard to smudge this much. Also, note how the golden glitter has spread over my hands on rubbing under water. So, if one tries to rub the lids hard to remove the liner, you will be left with the glitter spread all over your face. It should be removed with a makeup remover or oil (I tried it and there was not a trace of the liner).  Hence, all the claims are true: quick dry, smudge proof and water proof. Yay for this gel liner!

Cons of Maybelline Lasting Drama Swirl Gel Liner in Brown and Gold:

  • The gold is not intense enough to be shown on the lids (works good if mixed with brown).

No other con than this. Overall, I am really happy to have got this.

Yes, but in black and silver as I am sure this brown will last me for a lifetime!
